You’ve got 2 friends - motivation and discipline. Motivation is fun to be around, but he’s flaky. He’s popular so he’ll cancel last minute. But discipline, he might not be as “cool” but he genuinely cares. And he’ll always be there for you.
Lately, actually for a very long time I've been procrastinating some of my hobbies for seemingly no reason, really. Drawing, language learning (english & japanese for ex.), making friends.. all of them. The only "why" I can think of is a total lack of motivation, like I could go all my life without pursuing them & nothing would change anyway, 'cause I have nothing to push me forward. Sometimes I think "Why can't I just do it because I like it?" or whatever instead of doing it. Pretty much all of my routine is composed of obligations and addictions, but I just live with it.. it doesn't "matter" that much to me. Maybe all of this is just yappin and I should follow advices like yours to keep going, and I appreciate you for it, but I think something within myself must change to make a real difference. Besides that, thank you so much for the video! u seem like a very sweet person from what I've seen in the comments. Have a nice day :)
I love how direct this is, even the japanese saying itself, it's simple, cutting, and to the point. You don't sugar coat it, I think that's great, you're basically just saying "stop making excuses, if there's something you really want to do, do it, stop being lazy." I've definitely been guilty of this with my art, I've been putting it off a lot, or afraid that I can't measure up to the sheer skill of other artists, I know I don't have any reason to be afraid of failing, if I mess up, I can just keep trying, and failure can be a good teacher, I just need to get over it and make myself work at it. Thanks so much for making this, I think it was just what a little dummy like me needed today.
If you suck at something, thats fine. If you never learn and improve and put in the time and still wonder why you suck, then thats on you. Japanese culture puts a lot of importance in “sekinin” which is taking responsibility for your actions and your life. :) You can improve, you can be happy. Its a matter of your decisions and actions. So? When are you going to start working towards becoming the best artist?
@@muffintoppu Yeah, I admit, I have no one to blame for this but myself, there are definitely areas of art where I really suck, I just don't want to keep being so overcome by fear that I don't even bother trying to improve, I know I'll only get out of it what I put in. Whether it's art or a relationship, or...pretty much anything that I haven't achieved in my life, it's all boiled down to a total lack of confidence. That's honestly one thing, among others, that I've always admired about Japanese culture, the emphasis on personal responsibility. I guess my answer is....tonight, as soon as I get home from work. I can't thank you enough for this video. I didn't expect to get a pep talk from a retired japanese idol today, but I couldn't be happier that it happened.
@@muffintoppu Dont get me wrong I support taking action, however i disagree if you keep working at something and still suck thats not on you if you tried your utmost best that you know how. It's a bit foolish to try better than what you are capable and causes a lot of trouble and guilt. You, are as much part of the enviornment as much as you are "you". I find it fascinating that japanese culture is all about taking personal responsibility, but they are very much a collective society and not an individualistic one. So when all goes hay its the individual? Not the bullies and parents that told them they couldnt do it and they started to believe it? not the teacher's teaching them meaningless coping mechanisms or tools that make it worse? The art community today is very much so, it hides the real effective learning methods and praises finished work on a a fancy platter like reels without showing the actual process. Making other artists filled with inner loss and a sense of wow ive studied for years how come i cant do that yet? and they dont know because they havent learned it yet. How can you fault someone for not knowing something they dont know? If they are sincerly putting in effort. Their problem isnt they most likely arent putting enough effort, its that they keep listening to their mind telling them they are bad and they need to be good "or else". That thought comes from outside them, not themselves. They learned that from scouring the environment and what others put into them verbally and it stuck. Kids arent afraid of drawing badly, they happily show their parents what theyve drawn, and that way they keep doing it because they enjoy it. However Once they start getting serious about it, all joy dissipates and it becomes a game of oh dear shame on me for not being better. Which stops them from wanting to take action. see the circle here? So even though your advice is well meant, and I agree it has its uses it keeps them in a loop of them believing they are always the problem, which gives them more guilt, tries harder and burns out even harder and quitting even more likely. Kindness, and play silences the egoistic mind.
@@superstarmario101 sorry to break it to you, you sound tired and defeated. Dont be so hard on yourself. Guilting yourself as "I should've tried harder" then crashing and burning is not going to make you improve.
