8:59 Oh that pass. Beyond anything we ever saw in the original show or the movies. Seeing the details within the windows, the lighting, the hull texture. _Literally_ flawless.
Ohhhhh gosh watching all the ships just going around Earth Spacedock will always be my highlights of S3 Picard. Scenes that show the true scale of Starfleet at this point in time always get me going.
if you look at the Enterprise when warping in, you can still see the burn marks when it was last seen from Generations. I love that attention to detail.
Hello, @Rommél. Great job! I love season three of "Star Trek: Picard"--my #3 streaming show of 2023 between the final season of "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" and season two of "Strange New Worlds" and also my only honorable-mention current "Star Trek" show between my #1 "Prodigy" and my #2 "Lower Decks"--more than its first two, to be honest. I even love the score. Thank you for what you did. Also, thank you, Terry Matalas!
Nice work, but I do have to ask why are the torpedoes so slow? At this rate, Starfleet Captains run the risk of running into their own torpedoes if they're at full impulse...
Only if such a hypothetical ship were to accelerate *after* firing the torpedoes, since they're technically inheriting the velocity of the parent ship. (Assuming they're being fired in the vacuum of space, at a sufficient distance from any major sources of gravity where their effects would be negligible).
@@rommelvfx True. It reminds me a lot of Tobias Richter's work where as a modeler he was so good that CBS Digital bought his Enterprise-D model to replace ILM’s Enterprise-D model shots for the TNG HD project where they couldn’t find the original shots for, but always animated torpedoes that were suppose to be used at warp speeds but came out so slow that I could fly out of the same tube and throw it back at the ship. You guys did so many A+ shots that this looked like a C- and it showed. On the other hand, if this is the biggest thing fans are whining about, you're doing something right.
Nice work, dude. It's pretty amazing how good, how "cinematic" TV series VFX have gotten these past several years-especially considering the very tight budgetary and time constraints you and your team is under to create the large volume of shots you have to produce for each episode. So, how much pizza and energy drinks do you all consume on a daily basis to get this job done?
There was a benefit to WFH when we were making this show. But, we were very good about keeping things on track. We didn't have a ton of OT and late nights. Our producer was quick to say No to the show's production when they asked us to do more shots.
I'm so curious about what went into the creative decision to make so many of the windows in the starbase hangar...red? Like, what's going on inside all those rooms? Why are there just red lights on in so many of them?
I've haven't watched all of S3 (though I know how it ends), but this is giving me a reason to add that to my to-do list. Thank you for posting. And as a newly minted fan of Star Trek: Lower Decks, I'd just like that if y'all ever do something else set in the same time period of Star Trek: Picard, having the Cerritos tooling around in the background of a spacedock shot would be appreciated. :) Just a thought.
@@TheCNYMike And if it's in the background, chances are we wouldn't see the registry... Hell, if someone could sneak a good Cali in the fleet at the start of DS9 Season 6, (the first episode, not Operation Return), that would be awesome too.
Not a fan of many of the ships seen in Picard. What happened to graceful and smooth lines? The ships in the museum were better designs (imo) and the "D" was the best of the lot.
Oooooh, nice... My thanks for sharing. I do have the selfish request; if there's any good footage of the Frontier Day fleet, could you post a second reel...? I would love some closer looks at all those ships/ship classes. (Thank you in advance and apologies for the greed- even if the 10th Rule says I shouldn't worry about being greedy)
Do you think this will ever happen? I mean, like humans travelling in starships, faster than light? Massive space stations? Exploring/ travelling space like it's nothing?! Oh, if there was such a time to be alive, that would be the time! 🖖
I still wish Starfleet refit the Enterprise-D and re-christened it the G, instead of taking the Titans legacy away. Either way, the effects blew me away.
Beautiful work. Can you answer a question that's been bugging me? On the flyby shot of the D approaching Jupiter, where is the Ready Room window? I can't, for the life of me, find it in the area it should be. What am I missing?
Could someone here tell me why the whole Titan/Titan-A/Enterprise-G thing was so convoluted and made no sense? And why some of the ugliest ships from Star Trek Online were canonized and put in the show? Starfleet has so many beautiful ships from the First Contact era that could’ve still been used, mixed in with two or three newer classes. I miss the logical continuity of starship designs that we enjoyed from 1966 to 2002
Because the creators of new Star Trek don't really care about adhering to canon and aren't well versed in Star Trek lore. Instead, they just try to rehash past characters or events as fan service without really knowing the intricacies.
Mostly Maya. A good bit of Houdini (Houdini for all FX work) for a few lighting scenes. Nuke to composite it all. We started working on Season 3 November 2021, and we were finished with all our episodes by August 2022. We also worked on all the Changeling shots. I have another reel showcasing all the non-ship stuff we did.
I love Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek! I've watched this amazing franchise for almost half a century, and have been to Sci-Fi Conventions and have even had the honor of meeting several of the cast. Which is why I have refused to watch ANY of the "new" Trek garbage that CBS is putting out.
Beautiful, need shots of the A please. Especially one created showing someone mysterious stealing the ship as a should have been created end credit, that someone likely the person who was shown to be alive and in stasis
Why can't these poor ships have their own names and develop their own legacies? The Yorktown was re-named the Enterprise -A, The Titan was re-named the Enterprise-G. Can't they have their own identities? It's like Starfleet's robbing them of their own places in history by handing down someone else's.
