I totally agree with most part of your comment Sir, just that crippled is not true. The largest port onward the bridge comes at bottom on top 10 ports of USA. There are many larger ports in east coast itself.
The car import and export can be moved to most ports on the east coast. Those just RORO. Yes few of the farm equipment have local assembly which have impact. But no, US is not crippled.

Have you ever had an insurance claim? Did they cut you a check the day after your loss?
As an example, in a car accident, you get a rental until the claim is settled.
There is no temporary fix. The port needs to be open.
In this case, every day the port is closed, billions of dollars are being lost.
Do you want to wait for the insurance company to assess the damage and pay up or get moving ASAP to open the port?

Good point but you have to consider currents and tidal flow. What fell in the water at the foot of the bridge doesn't necessarily sink straight to the bottom. Lighter items like vehicles and bodies could have drifted far from the bridge.

@K.R.I.P.A.C • The vessel lost power, so started to drift out of the channel toward the pylons. The vessel deployed at least its port anchor to try to slow down. The channel "what's going on with shipping" has done some very good videos on this incident. In one, Sal marries the live stream of the harbor cam with the overhead of the ships AIS passage through the harbor. You may want to check it out because whoever posited an explosion isn't very knowledgeable about the speed & mass of vessels and bridge structures.

The incident may be human error, or it may be mechanical failure, or it may be some combination of the two. The contributory causes are still too early to tell.

    TEARS = 2024 !!
Tears are the raindrops of the soul
And there's one for all who die.
They are the silent words of grief
As they fall free from the eye.
The shortest verse in the Bible
Is the one where Jesus wept
So, if you hold back tears, shed them
When your pain is too harsh to accept.
Tears are lovelier than a smile
When they come from those you love
As they seek relief from sadness
    When you're summoned from above.
Tears are a love-mates humble gift
When it's time to say goodbye
Though the eyes are wet and swollen
With time and patience they dry.

and why would there not be sparks in an accident?
and why would there not be construction vehicles on the bridge if it was an accident?

Not hard to decide there is damage and the cutting should be underway, as well as fabricating new structure.

this ship had two pilots on it and it still did this damage. Because the crew of this ship are from a country know to be hostile to the west I find it quite easy to believe this is a purposeful act, perpetrated by their country of origin to disrupt the americun economy
