The area you were driving thru is Pacubtun going into Fraccionamiento del Parque aka Fracc Park 😅 I stayed in Fracc Park the first 4 months when I first moved to Merida NOTHING but good things to say about that area, on the left of that rotunda you drove around there is a park and its huge, active in the morning and at night with runners, soccer, families and the tianguis (flea markets :) 4 times a week. Yes, it looks different, but i’ve seen worse in Philadelphia where im from 😅😅😅 I never felt afraid or unsafe in that area as a woman walking alone in the day or at 12 midnite. You need spanish in this neighborhood, very authentic neighborhood. Now i’m in a similar area closer to Juan Pablo ll. My heart jumped out my chest with memories seeing this video…love Merida ❤❤❤

To remind people.. Airports are typically built in neighborhoods similar to this throughout the world. (Jet engines noise) Including the U.S.

I lived in a old Mexican hood in East L.A. in the 90's that looked run down like some of Merida. I was Much safer than in Hollywood. E.L.A. was relaxed, people were friendly, it felt like living in the country. Not much was modern, everything felt old, used but still loved and appreciated.
People here in Orange County are very wealthy, most avoid eye contact In E.L.A. people hung out by their porches. Life felt easy, people were curious and interested to get to know.
Some homes had some cages/housing for chickens and rabbits, etc. There was a wealthy old white lady, her house was a two-story and built on a hill. She didn't have a husband she had a pet, a big fat 🐷. The pig had chewed her house up, she loved her pig. Not sure where it slept. She invited me in, I'll never forget That experience, she was so nice trying to make me comfortable which was impossible. E.L.A. was the perfect place for me at that time in. 30 years later I imagine things have changed.

My partner and I took a city bus, years ago when we went to Cancun, and ended up in an area like that. I think we had to change buses along the way. He was very uneasy, thought we’d ended up in a bad area. Still thinks so to this day. I didn’t see any signs of it being bad. It didn’t seem bad to me.

It’s like some of the west indies islands … some areas look a little sketchy and other areas are more modern and upscale … typical looks for developing countries … it’s all good

We are conditioned to seek the best aesthetics in our surroundings but that doesn’t equate to safety or quality. Many places in Merida are dirty as hell and very run down, makes you wonder why people don’t even try to keep it up BUT it does grow on you and becomes less of an issue as time goes on. There is real life in those neighborhoods whereas ritzy neighborhoods, people are very closed off and it can be sterile.

Americans have not lived in other (third world) developing countries. They have no experience with that whatsoever. Hope people have extended stays prior to making a permanent move. It is not the USA folks!

It absolutely will become normal to you!! I gauge it by my spidey sense. Are women and children walking around the neighborhood? Then it is safer than you think it is. Look outside your sanitized US googles.
    Developing nation folks.

Laredo Texas has defund the wall painted on a street but 95 percent of the homes and businesses have walls around them.

1 sign or announcement is not the sentiment of the entire city. Even though Laredo is mostly democrat, Republicans live there too.
Texas Republicans back Governor Gregg Abbott & former President Donald John Trump, build the wall; add Constantino wire and barricades in the middle of the Rio Grande/ Bravo. Texas is even paying billions to add its own section of wall.
Texas is Red, don't be fooled by one or a few blue statements.🤔😎🇺🇸
