why laidback luke was the best dj @ultra
1. He’s Actually a DJ…
Instead of 5 people behind the decks working to produce a set comprising of 15 songs, which are primarily mashups (Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes), Laidback Luke produced a set of 29+ songs ranging all across the board. While some of the artists on the main stage only mix the last little bit of each song into the next, Laidback Luke went absolutely bonkers and displayed a deep mastery of the art of mixing. Although he is a fantastic producer, behind the decks is his calling in my eyes.
2. Performed Live Remixing on the Fly
The main stage of Ultra is one of the biggest platforms a DJ can play on and needless to say, it can be pretty intimidating. Despite being on display for thousands of critics, Laidback Luke decided to say “screw it” to the safe route and actually incorporate live remixing as he was playing. While most DJ’s will just mess with the filters and bass of a track, Laidback Luke was constantly manipulating them to provide a unique performance that was in the details.
3. He isn’t Genre-Locked
One of the biggest issues in the EDM industry right now is becoming genre-locked. The perfect example of being genre-locked is Avicii. When fans go to an Avicii show, they are expecting a certain kind of sound and when they don’t hear that style of music, they are taken aback or surprised as proven by Avicii’s performance at Ultra Weekend 2. Laidback Luke is free from the genre-locking shackles and played a full arsenal of different music for his set. Ranging from Dubstep to Progressive house, Laidback Luke did an excellent job playing the music he loved regardless of what genre it was.
4. He is a Cool Dude
As cheesy as this reason may be, it’s the truth. I get much more satisfaction out of a show when I personally like what the artist is doing. With the power of social media these days, you can get a pretty good idea of what artists are like just by simply following them. Instead of being “borwhore”-chasing and pretentious, he is a real and genuine person who is actively trying to make the EDM scene a better place. Not to mention his label, Mixmash Records, is at the forefront for nurturing new and upcoming talent and giving them the exposure they deserve. Good Guy Greg, Laidback style.

the slight imperfections in laidback lukes set are what make them genuine and the best.
Love the way that Laidback Luke don't use the mic, I hate this Djs who stop the music to snapchat or say some shit i also hate when the dj tells when the drop will be cause it makes you feel like and idiot or stop the rave . But you are the opossite and personacly i love that!

I love the idea behind Laidback Luke's style. He has stuck with playing the role of a true DJ who simply plays good music rather than deviating into today's common formula of playing one basic electro house track after another just to get the crowd excited.
I have to say I'm a huge Martin Garrix fan, but Laidback Luke is the most technically skilled dj there is and honestly he deserves a main stage show. I understand why he chooses worldwide though, the djs who do play main stage are forced to limit their skills.

dude. it is like he is DJing live right. so he plays a track according to the crowd. so there is no chance for a vdj to adopt to his djing. so he is usually provided with two choices. mainstage in day time or worldwide stage at night coz. they don't have much vdj stuff.

Definitely one of the top sets of the festival! So tired is the sound of other acts like Garrix and Hardwell, this goes HARD. This and Chainsmokers were the top sets IMO. Chainsmokers slayed too!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Chainsmokers were by far my favorite. Laidback Luke was great as always and you can certainly throw Kaskade, Don Diablo and even Tiesto in there as well

The reason he spun @ Worldwide Stage this year is probably similar to his reasoning last year...UMF was more than likely offering him a time slot during sunlight hours on the Main Stage and as we all know that isn't where LBL necassarily belongs lol Props to him for always sticking to his guns so that he can provide the best experience for his fans. djmag top 100 is a vote system... in other words, how loyal are your fans to you and how many do your fans know about dj'ing. It doesn't (at all in my opinion) have any direct connection to the skill of the DJ.
It should be called producermag top 100 because it's about what songs people make not how good the are at mixing, most of them are shit anyway. LL can't do both very well and deserves to be top 15 at least.

+Vauschild 13 Laidback Luke es una leyenda tiene su propio sello las nuevas generaciones nunca serán ni la mitad de este hombre por que muchos se encargan de aventar sus dj's genéricos el es original pero bueno muchos de aquí no saben la historia no saben quien es Markus Schulz no saben quien es Paul Van Dyk no saben quienes son los precursores de este género.

+MazingeR vR Creo que no se trata de convertirse en leyenda o no, Sweedish House Mafia se convirtio en legenda por ejemplo con Leave the World behind y otros tracks, pero Laidback luke rechazo estar con ellos, preferia estar por su cuenta y asi mismo pudo crear su propio stage de "Super You and me" y mucha gente va a ese escenario, creo que tener un escenario y DJ's tocando para tu escenario esta en otro nivel tambien
