    I carry all 3 Smart Soles 4 Black C/G/S haven’t tried the new L. I lengthened my C to 36 and use it very effectively as a PW from 105-65 by altering my backswing Full to Half and new 4 model groves produce good spin. I also use the C with a putting stroke to great effect. For shots 65 and in I use the Gap G 50° model. All in all these are great clubs.

      Good luck with it!! I still think it’s one of the BEST options for golfers who want a great bum and run game. Thanks again and good luck!!

    I got one of these for my wife - who really struggles around the green. I tested it on our home practice green - and just got done ordering one for myself! I fancy my chipping game very decent for a beginner. Hoping this helps get my H.I. moving south a little more rapidly. Probably going to take my 3w out of the bag to make room. Or maybe one of my wedges .....

    I bought a Cleveland chipper about 15 years ago. It looks very similar to the model in the review. Anyway it really helped my game and contributed to lowering my handicap into single digits.

    When they came out I bought used versions of all three Cleveland Smart Sole 4 wedges. I could sell the Chipper out of my car trunk, I would let people hit it around the green and they wouldn’t want to give it back. The friend I play with was skeptical at first, now it is his favorite club. 0:11

    Clevelalnd make great wedges so I would think that this chipper would work well on tight and frozen lies....Hard to get a 56 wedge to do well from 20 feet off the green and close pins...Will try this Cleveland 42 chipper..Thanks...

    It would’ve been nice to have seen the ball hitting the green and rolling out on that last 40 or 50 yard pitch. I’m looking for a club that will handle something like that and then for the bump and run more flat surfaces. That plateau you were chipping up onto I don’t think I would even try using this kind of club.

      And I just ordered this club. I’ve been rather successful in chipping with my other irons. Stand closer, get them up on the toe and putt. But I really like the possibility in using it more in the 40-50 yd pitching range.

    Head to head with 8 iron or 7 iron, how does this club do better? Just curious. Less interaction with grass blades of the rough?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  4 дня назад

      Couple things. First, it’s the length and lie of a putter, which makes these shots markedly easier. Second, the sole of the club makes it very difficult to completely duff. Finally, the leading edge is very rounded and prevents digging. The loft is 42° so close to a modern pitching wedge. I’m sure the ping is great too but I haven’t used it. But for folks who need a little confidence boost in chipping, this thing is amazing.

  • @adamwhitney9504
    @adamwhitney9504 Год назад +2

    My friend and I bought one of these at the same time and we both feel that on the shots from the edge of the green the contact is inconsistent. Sometimes it will blade and go miles and other times it will check up and stay short, especially off short grass, so its not a reliable option as you are never quite sure of the result. From further away with a more traditional swing it seems to perform much better and is more reliable and I love it from 40 - 70 yards out. We are 15 and 14 handicaps respectively and both had the same outcomes. Did you notice this inconsistency and do you have any advice?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  Год назад

      When close to the green, I think the best technique is to use this club with a putting stroke. So maybe practice on green where you hit a putt from off the green and get it close to the hole, then using the exact same technique and swing speed/force try the chipper. You should see a very similar result and your distance control will be more predictable. Thanks for reaching out!!!

  • @ponnappaganapathy9941
    @ponnappaganapathy9941 Год назад +1

    I am just wondering how much of a difference these clubs make over using say a 7/8 iron from better lies and a PW from slightly more grassy lies. Plus not being able to check a ball is a major concern for me unless it is a course where you want to play bump and run

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  Год назад +1

      That’s exactly right. It’s a bump and run specialist. Given the shorter length and steep lie angle, it just excels at it. But if you are looking for one hop and stop, look elsewhere for sure!! Thanks for the feedback!

    How different is smart sole chipper and the smart sole Sand? Can I get one or other for both areas?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  3 месяца назад

      The sole designs are similar but they are pretty different clubs. My recommendation, if you want a more dedicated club for around the green, I’d go chipper. If you want something more forgiving for 30-75 yard shots, I’d go SW. Hope this helps!!

  • @johnk2546
    @johnk2546 9 месяцев назад

    For a high handicapper, what would you estimate the max full swing distance is for the Chipper and SW? 70 yards and 100 yards?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  9 месяцев назад

      That’s tough to say, as I’ve seen high handicappers with very fast swing speeds and some with average to slow speeds. Having said that, for an average high hc player, I’d guess chipper around 50 yds and sw 75-80 yds. These are great clubs for a high hc though!! Hope this helps!

    I've just purchased one and trying to figure out if I should drop my 44 degree Cleveland Launcher XL HALO PW or my CBX2 50 degree Gap wedge? What do you think? I'm leaning toward dropping the PW

    I’m looking for a chipper that will help me lift the ball onto the green without too much runout. I feel 37 deg is not enough, perhaps 45?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  Год назад

      I believe this club is 42°. As far as a club that’ll one hop and stop, you’re going to need more loft, really like a sand wedge or lob wedge. However, to get the hop and stop shot to work, you’d have to hit either out of the sand or off the fairway to really impart enough spin. Any chipper can play a bump and run type shot, but I think you’ll struggle to get enough backspin to stop the runout. Thanks for the question!!

    • @andymos9
      @andymos9 Год назад

      So would a 50 deg G grind be better than a 42 deg C grind for this ?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  Год назад

      @@andymos9 sorry man, I hadn’t seen this question. Quite honestly the type of shot you are referring to really needs a loft of 55-60°.

  • @tkas58
    @tkas58 2 месяца назад

    What are your thoughts about the 50° vs the 42°. I’ve read that the 50° can give you the benefits of the 42°, but with a little more loft and spin. Thanks

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  2 месяца назад +1

      I think you can use most wedges in a variety of ways, and certainly you could play bump and runs with the 50°. Having said that, the chipper is a dedicated club for those greenside chips and it is very good at this shot. So, if your wedge play is a strength and you can vary your shot type with a wedge, the 50° would work, but if you are losing strokes around the green, I’d recommend the 42° for it’s purpose built performance. Hope this helps!!
