Rare emperor too, Magnus Maximus (The greatest and the best) from 383 A.D. to about 388 A.D. that's worth a lot more than your average Solidus. I think he usurped under Western Roman Emperor Gratian and had him executed.
Magnus Maximus, AD 383-388. AV Solidus approx. 21mm. Trier. DN MAG MA-XIMVS PF AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / VICTOR-IA AVGG, Two emperors (Mag. Maximus and Theodosius I) seated on throne, together holding globe between them; behind, Victory with wings spread; palm-branch below. Mintmark TROB. RIC IX Trier 77b; Depeyrot II, 123, 52/1; Sear 20633. Amazing find!
What Part of the country did you find it in? Did you need/have permission? Did you share it with the land owner? What year? What price? It really is amazing - well done to both of you - truly a find of a lifetime
Magnus Maximus was proclaimed in Britain and seized Gaul quickly. He was at one time recognized by Constantinople, but when he attacked Italy and Valentinian II, he came up against Theodosius I who defeated him and caused him to be executed.. Bravo Tinner
