Just bought a 2014 Passion for my daughter-drove it 800 miles to deliver. It was a blast! Had no trouble keeping up with high speed traffic, got about 40mpg and a lot of looks. At 72, I prefer my big luxury cars on the highway, but this Smart car surprised me with its pizzaz. Great video.
You missed out some crucial elements about what makes this car unique. Smallest turning circle on a vehicle to date, can practically park anywhere. In comparison to the older smart they have been improved tenfold. You have forgotten what this car is about in essence and are comparing it to bigger cars, of course it is not going to be the smoothest ride ever because of the size of the wheel base lol. It isn't meant for country roads and bumpy mountain roads, nor long distance journeys. It is for people who live in a busy city....
Yes, it turns on a dime. But that's about it, as far as real advantages are concerned. Parking it perpendicular to the curb is illegal in many European cities, and it costs a lot of money. That said older generations are quite popular on second hand market, because finally they are the affordable little cars smart was supposed be in the first place.
Great review! I didn't realise how many Renault features were carried over to the Smart. I figured the sat-nav would be, as R-Link is a particularly good system. But I wasn't expecting to see the mirror switches, the gear-stick and the key from a 2007 Clio. :D I agree with your opinion that the concept is good, but it could be better executed. Now the difficult choice for people will be between the ForFour and the Twingo. ;)
I like them for their core audience: urban singles and couples worried about parking and narrow streets, but not hauling a lot of stuff. They're good if you need a second commuting-only car, too. The catch is... well, everyone else. Here in Canada, there are wide streets, lots of parking lots (well, most of the time) and plenty of suburbanites carrying their furniture and 2.2 children. You're more likely to see someone get a Honda Fit that may be bigger and less maneuverable, but can carry just about anything.
I enjoyed your review, sir. If I were to buy this vehicle I would get the turbo model and keep the options as basic as possible. I'd buy my own wheels and performance tires later. No sport suspension for me, thank you.How much more enjoyable would the car be with 140hp??
Don't. You're buying a matchbox and you'll have to pay Mercedes prices for parts! They're not reliable and they expensive as hell! I had a friend that used to have 3 or 4 to deliver pizza, when he got rid of them he was the happiest man alive!
Marek many thanks for your videos. I rent this smart and it feels too plastic and the manual gear change feels like in the 2003 renault clio....where are Mercedes contributions?
+Alejandro Glez Villa Daimler probably contributed to the overall design, as seen in concept cars over the last several years. I think the digital display in front of the driver comes from some older Mercedes-Benz models, and that's all I can think of on the spot ;)
hi Marek, could you please test drive the new 2015 or 16 q70s, 5.6 engine??? I really like this car so much and your opinion of this car is important as well. thanks
+Marek Drives yeah I guess it's relatively new to the market everywhere. Nevermind, if you can get it I would appreciate it, your reviews are great always. Have a nice day.
brutallbiker Thanks. 1.8 TFSI would be interesting in this car. I tested A7 when it came out first several years ago, but back then I didn't make videos. An interesting car, but 3.0 TDI or TFSI would probably better suit its character.
+Marek Drives yes, but I'm planning to buy an A7 for it's looks primarily, but I don't need the power of 3.0 engines, mainly due to the high running and registration costs. still who knows, I've driven the 3.0 tdi, maybe it's better than 1.8 tfsi.
Marek Drives Why you gotta be SMART? I just ask a question but this review is not good, never mentioned the year also dont answer back comments if your gonna be rude, unsubscribed*
The smart really was a product of the millenium, when such a concept was next-generation. Now, there are cars that do the urban car idea so much better. The Smart is a victim of it's previous success, and an outdated, cheapened, expensive affair with no place in the modern world.
Brad_0 Oh yes. Of course. That's why I see smart cars everywhere where I live. If they're outdated with better cars available why do so many people buy them. Myself included. Though I buy the electric model only.
Well said, driving this in comparison to the previous generation smart you will notice the difference straight away. What do you expect from this car? It is made for urban driving, around cities in and out of small spaces and fit into parking spaces anywhere. The reviewer is very biased.
But it doesn't cost basic money. Smart will tell you it's because of the clever packaging, but for goodness sake! This is no a SWB Renault Twingo, so costs have been divided between two companies, and it's still quite expensive for what it represents.
@@MarekDrives I guess it is subjective but I look at cars for functionality not luxury, there is a reason why a lambo will cost of $2 mil and a basic car is equipped accordingly. Compared to the cars in the late 80's when Air conditioning and power mirrors and doors were an option.
As far as functionality goes, I'd take a VW up! any day over smart. I understand in some congested cities every inch counts, but in that case I'd probably use other means of transport (car sharing, scooters, etc.)
The message is more important than the style when reviewing cars! And for this car the message is clear - the car is too expensive (about 4-5000euros to expensive)!

With all that said, I would still ❤ to own one! 🚗

I drove from Scotland to Germany in one of this. No problems at all.
Did the drone survive?
I love my 3rd generation SMART ❤️
I have smart car and I love it very much because of all the corky things about it and when it won't go anymore I will get a new one ❤️❤️❤️❤️
damn I like this car.....
Thumbs up! You are one of a very few that showed the engine compartment.

+DRiVEandRiDE TV Twingo is cheaper, and it's also marketed as a lifestyle car. For me it's a no-brainer.
looks like a great city car. needs a standard transmission and chrome bumpers, I would buy one if the price was right.

I love the sport option, drives/rides much better... Way better than the first version...
I have a smart 1.0 turbo 2007
260000km now still runs like New!
Best micro car for the monny..
I am considering buying older maybe 2007/8 smart just to commute every day to work...

conorwaswrong I have a 2009 smart. It's never had any problems. Great car. Just keeps going and going!
Did you buy it? How was it?
Electric car or no is this electric car or no?
loved the intro :)
I love this car
How much is it?? And where is it sold??

+RAID HART I'm afraid in Poland we get Q70 with 2.2 diesel, 3.7 petrol or petrol hybrid. Nothing to write home about.
any chance you could review Audi A7 sportback 1.8 TFSI? not sure if it's available yet but if you get the chance review any A7 model.
+brutallbiker I'm not sure we're going to get this version in Poland, but I'll see what I can do.

+brutallbiker Audi question then. Not related in any way, what is the best fast everyday Audi? My money's on either the C7 S6 or the RS7
How much this car in INR and can I buy from imphal
Is it Manual or automatic transmission?
Impressive car but when u talk about the price 11000 EUR then u realize its not a smart as it looks like😅
What year is this Smart car?
What year is the review?
The review? 2015. The car? 2016. How about a decent human response?
@@mickeytollison This car is in production since 2014/15. I assume you're from the US, so you have the model years all wrong :) Not my fault.

Marek Drives it is your fault you don’t even know the year of the car... Check Yourself
This guy is so negative Everything is Bad for him
I like the look of this new Smart and that orange interior is immense!
Also, how does this sound so racy?
+Turn Eight Lol :)

You are obviously talking about the Renault Twizy. But that car is too radical for me. In my book, the overall package of the Smart is hard to beat.
Brad_0 Oh yes. Of course. That's why I see smart cars everywhere where I live. If they're outdated with better cars available why do so many people buy them. Myself included. Though I buy the electric model only.

You people spent so much time complaining about this car. What a baby.
It's not great.
If you don’t link smart cars why review them
Six litters extra urban? That's the same as the A3 1.4 CoD engine!
+Posidaon That's what Audi claims. In real life it's likely to be more.
that fuel consumption is unthinkable
I really don't know what people expect, if you want luxury then by luxury...this i s basic car that will do the job!!
But it doesn't cost basic money. Smart will tell you it's because of the clever packaging, but for goodness sake! This is no a SWB Renault Twingo, so costs have been divided between two companies, and it's still quite expensive for what it represents.

if it cost 10 000€ i would buy the new one (hated the old one) but for almost 16000€ Mercedes can keep his smart car
I am buying the car
tech in urdu What do you think of your purchase?
Im worried for the drone
And rightly so :)
I don't know why is that musik
Renault? It’s owned by Mercedes?
This is a partnership between Daimler and Renault.
Chrome bumpers- seriously?
Toyota IQ is a better deal then
+BillyNoMates1974 As a second hand car, yes. They axed it, so you can't get a new iQ any more :(
