Coming from a cheerleader u can’t jus collapse in the stunt you have to stay tight no matter what your bases do.. Also dont flail when you fall just let the bases catch u. Dont have weak ankles either it makes it hard on ur bases
I’m a cheerleader myself as a base and back spot sometime when the basses catch grips backwards the flyer starts bending and falling and when they threw her they didn’t get a chance to catch her

As a flyer, I can say that stunts are a bit hard but you have to squeeze EVERYTHING. Your legs, you thighs, your arms, your feet, and make sure you are not shaking. You will be scared sometimes but you have to trust your bases and back/front spots. Good luck❤

I’m a flyer and i’ve been told that whenever i fall i just fall. A stunt needs to be fought for, if you fall stay tight. if you’re bases grips are wrong, stay tight. If you feel like something is wrong tell them and stay tight. Like squeeze your body. If you’re butting don’t just fall, along with toeing and not locking your hips. Don’t rely on your bases and backspot to always catch you when you need to stay in the air.
I have a cheer club at my school and I’m a Flyer. We just started and we just started doing stunts today and every time I fell my spotters caught me. Once my back spot forgot what where they were supposed to hold me but thankfully my front spot caught me in a way that I didn’t get hurt. I felt bad for almost squashing her but I’m glad my stunt group is mostly people I know so I can trust them. The only other time I almost fell is when we tried doing a prep at chest height but my bases caught me. I am very grateful for my bases and get sad when flyers blame their bases when it want the bases fault. ( not intending you are, just in general). Also afterwards the teacher supervising us said we can only do kneeling stunts or squatting below knee level. It was a bit lame but hopefully they let us with practice.
Hi! I’m an all star cheer flyer but here’s some tips!! SQUEEZE!! I can’t stress this enough pretend you have $100 between your 🍑 and your Backspot is trying to take it!! Lock out your knees (pretend you’re pushing your knees to the back wall.) spread your toes (so you don’t heel or toe) ALWAYS look up!! If you are falling don’t flail stay tight (it’s easier for your bases to catch you) I have fallen on my bases many times, it happens in stunting so don’t feel bad or blame yourself, practice makes perfect.
Agreed. Like has this school never done cheer before? Our school has nine, big thick mats. They look like they took some girls and took them to a random location with a random mat. If they r competing they need to get actual mats to practice their routine.

Hi. I’m a former base and currently a back. I have some tips. SQUEEZE. squeeze everything you can move in your body. Squeeze your knees, ankles, hips, back, butt,necks, sholders, arms. EVERYTHING. it makes it SO much easier to hold you. As a back, I can feel your legs get much harder as you squeeze. As a base, if you squeeze you feel much lighter, and you’re easier to hold. PLEASE SQUEEZE
as someone who used to be in cheer for years and years, girly you have to squeeze because those falls are hurting the bases as much as there hurting you and maybe even more😭
If you’re the base, you have to catch your fire if you don’t catch your fire, you’re a bad bass I’m a base myself and I always catch my flyer cause I do not want to condition and our competition. It is counted a fall and a deduction if you don’t catch your fire, she’ll land on the floor and you’ll automatically get a deduction, and it will also be counted as a fall.
Tip: Squeeze ur body, legs,arms etc. It’ll be easier for ur bases to catch u. Always stay tight/squeezed if when you’re falling. If ur flapping around that could get u or ur base injured.

girl I’m a flyer and ik everyone is saying to squeeze but here’s what my coach tells me: pretend like your head has a string tied to it and your being pulled up to the ceiling, it really helps me to have good posture in my stunts and stay tight, that way even if I fall it’s not too painful
im a base. i can tell you that you NEED to start squeezing your body. if after practicing stunts your muscles arent hurting then your not doing it right. if your butt cheeks arent clenched then it doesnt count, this causes the bases to not be able to catch you. also when you feel the stunt started to fail STAY SQUEEZED it helps us sm and the stunt may be able to be saved. it also helps the impact not be as bad.

As a previous flyer that last one from what i saw looks worse than a 3 because sometimes if the pull your shoulders back it has dislocated my shoulder and it hurts. But the video didn’t show how they set her down which is a huge factor
i am a cheerleader and i have been cheering for over 5 years now. i am a base and the hardest thing to do is to hold your flyer when they aren’t squeezing, it must be very hard on your bases to hold you when you aren’t being tight. please don’t take this as hate!! i am just trying to help u out
As a cheerleader the bases were gripping wrong and also the flyers legs were bent and that also messed the bases up and lose grip but if you are cheerleader and you are a flyer always lock your legs! Because if you don’t it can also make you shake, lose balance, etc.(also if I said something wrong or missed something please tell me because I’m in elementary not middle school-high school and they usually know a lot more things❤️)

Once I was doing my stunt and my base held my foot at a diagonal and it was on dead mat and I fell on my face from extension and my group didn’t catch me. Another story So once we were doing stunt practice and I was in an extended heel stretch and again was on dead mat and fell back upside down and my group didn’t slow me down and I hit the floor head first and bounced and then fell on my neck 😂 Last one maybe Once at summit (last month) we were practicing on the grass and I got dropped on my head and got a concussion and almost had to go to the er but this was on day 1 so I had to do day 2 Maybe last one I was at practice doing my stunt and we did this like ball to splits dismount and my coach told my base to release for the ball but catch the split and she didn’t catch my leg and it hyperextended again on dead mat and a different coach said that she heard me hit the floor from our spring floor over a full out and my knee hurt for weeks Last one So once I was at a cheer party and we were stunting and we thought it was a good idea to do a basket toss and they threw me and this was on grass with no mat and they just straight up walked away and didn’t catch me Last one I promise So 2023 season we were at a pool at someone’s hotel in Phoenix and everyone else left to the other pool and me and some bases and a back spot and some others stayed and I was a flyer and we did a basket toss and they threw me like 20 feet high and I smacked that water so hard and my back turned red Btw this was all within nine years you don’t get dropped that often 😂
as a past flyer and current base it is so much easier to squeeze and trust you bases they will do their job if you do yours even if you fall never ever EVER flail your legs and arms no one is going to want to catch you if that happens stay tight it makes everyone's life easier I promise

my cheer coaches would make my team do 20 burpees every-time we dropped a flier so we would be so terrified catching them, but thankfully it only happened once or twice

The scariest fall I’ve ever seen (not been a part of thankfully) was when someone fell backward on a cradle, and to catch the flyer, the back spot fell backward with the flyer, but that day we had a skewer of a mat (maybe 5 ft wide at the most) and since the back spot was well, in the back, when she fell backward she hit her head on the court
As a flyer, you have to straighten your knees and be tight and if you are falling, fall tightly if that makes sense because if you don’t, it might hurt when you get caught or you might not be caught.

Omg basket toss fails can get brutal when it was my first time doing one with a toe touch I fell backwards and my backspots face got hit I felt really bad but she was okay
As a backspot that just got punched at practice while catching my flyer, most of those falls were your fault, these are like level 2 stunts with a level 1 flyer
During a basket fail, i was the only one to catch our flyer and i was spotting. I moved to the other side of the stunt and caught her in a princess carry on my knees. She was so close to hitting the ground.
Like 3 weeks ago I was flying and I had to do a full twist into an extension and my cousin and her friend were my bases and when I went into the extension my two bases backed up to the end of the mat and when they were moving I fell backwards and hit my head on the concrete flooring and I had a major concussion ✌️
At dance class the other day I was working on my solo but any the rest of the class was working on a trick and it was so bad of a fail even the teacher ended up on the floor somehow, and they missed the mat they were standing in the middle of. We had a good laugh about it

Never swing your arms in circles when you are about to fall. It’s much safer and easier to save if you stay tight as a board

i use to base flyers and imagine the impact on us when flyers mess up lmfaoaoao
i am a cheerleader and i have been cheering for over 5 years now. i am a base and the hardest thing to do is to hold your flyer when they aren’t squeezing, it must be very hard on your bases to hold you when you aren’t being tight. please don’t take this as hate!! i am just trying to help u out
As a cheerleader the bases were gripping wrong and also the flyers legs were bent and that also messed the bases up and lose grip but if you are cheerleader and you are a flyer always lock your legs! Because if you don’t it can also make you shake, lose balance, etc.(also if I said something wrong or missed something please tell me because I’m in elementary not middle school-high school and they usually know a lot more things❤️)
As a cheerleader for 3 years now, YOU HAVE TO SQUEEZE. If your not squeezing and you have your legs bent the bases WILL lose grip 💀 i cannot stress this enough
As a flyer I've fell manu times but you just have to keep going!
At least they caught her unlike like my sister, when she was in cheer they dropped her and didn’t even try to stop her from falling.
Brooo frrrr it hurts like crazy sometimes a girl once wasn’t squeezing her legs and she fell on the ground like full body slam in the back 😅 then we had to run laps bc other girls weren’t catching the flyers 🤦♀️

Once I was doing my stunt and my base held my foot at a diagonal and it was on dead mat and I fell on my face from extension and my group didn’t catch me.
Another story
So once we were doing stunt practice and I was in an extended heel stretch and again was on dead mat and fell back upside down and my group didn’t slow me down and I hit the floor head first and bounced and then fell on my neck 😂
Last one maybe
Once at summit (last month) we were practicing on the grass and I got dropped on my head and got a concussion and almost had to go to the er but this was on day 1 so I had to do day 2

I was at practice doing my stunt and we did this like ball to splits dismount and my coach told my base to release for the ball but catch the split and she didn’t catch my leg and it hyperextended again on dead mat and a different coach said that she heard me hit the floor from our spring floor over a full out and my knee hurt for weeks

So once I was at a cheer party and we were stunting and we thought it was a good idea to do a basket toss and they threw me and this was on grass with no mat and they just straight up walked away and didn’t catch me

So 2023 season we were at a pool at someone’s hotel in Phoenix and everyone else left to the other pool and me and some bases and a back spot and some others stayed and I was a flyer and we did a basket toss and they threw me like 20 feet high and I smacked that water so hard and my back turned red
Btw this was all within nine years you don’t get dropped that often 😂

as a past flyer and current base it is so much easier to squeeze and trust you bases they will do their job if you do yours even if you fall never ever EVER flail your legs and arms no one is going to want to catch you if that happens stay tight it makes everyone's life easier I promise
Coming from a Flyer i always feel so bad for the bases when they kicked and stuff when the flyer falls. I always keep checking on them when i fall to make sure theyre not hurt. And this girl needs to SQUEEZE or shes going to get hurt
How us bases are always the ones fallen on 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ of course flyers can get hurt to but the flyers land on us usually
yall are saying "squeeze!" But these are fails, you guys arent seeing the times where she does. They are called fails for a reason.
my cheer coaches would make my team do 20 burpees every-time we dropped a flier so we would be so terrified catching them, but thankfully it only happened once or twice
girl i do cheer for my middle school, and i be getting dropped on my head and sh- ive gotten 3 concussions and we do so many elaborate stunts

You must SQUEEZE and be tight even when your falling because I’m a flyer myself too and it can get hard but the first time we tried a full extension I was scared that they would drop me but I stayed tight and I went up good and never fell! So just sometips
One time I fell forward and no one caught me. I landed on my tailbone.. pain scale 8.5/10

The scariest fall I’ve ever seen (not been a part of thankfully) was when someone fell backward on a cradle, and to catch the flyer, the back spot fell backward with the flyer, but that day we had a skewer of a mat (maybe 5 ft wide at the most) and since the back spot was well, in the back, when she fell backward she hit her head on the court
As a flyer, you have to straighten your knees and be tight and if you are falling, fall tightly if that makes sense because if you don’t, it might hurt when you get caught or you might not be caught.

You’re the type of flyer that would knock me out I had the least dangerous job in this time and I blacked out because the bace’s through the flyer or I went under the stunt either way I blacked out
As a cheerleader and a flyer, stop insulting her. I see that your saying to squeeze but the way you guys are saying it is mean. Also the bases might get hurt but not as hurt as when a flyer falls from that much of a height straight to the ground. Also bases don’t say anything until you try flying. Sometimes bases get annoyed but it’s a lot scarier than you think. It easiest but way scarier.
dont be too rough on this girl, shes also a hs cheerleader and they dont get proper training. im a competitive cheerleader and id get killed for not squeezing but hs cheer is different

I really came here as a flyer to comment before realizing it was the same flyer every time. The first thing a flyer needs to learn is the proper fall form.

im a new cheerleader and im pretty small so they put me as flyer (a guarantee) but i feel soooo bad every time i fall badly because i feel like i hurt the tuber girls so badly like my falls don’t hurt i think the bases hurt more
Omg basket toss fails can get brutal when it was my first time doing one with a toe touch I fell backwards and my backspots face got hit I felt really bad but she was okay
As a backspot that just got punched at practice while catching my flyer, most of those falls were your fault, these are like level 2 stunts with a level 1 flyer
one time at a game i forgot to squeeze and i was in a extension and i fell but i had good bases luckily!

During a basket fail, i was the only one to catch our flyer and i was spotting. I moved to the other side of the stunt and caught her in a princess carry on my knees. She was so close to hitting the ground.
Like 3 weeks ago I was flying and I had to do a full twist into an extension and my cousin and her friend were my bases and when I went into the extension my two bases backed up to the end of the mat and when they were moving I fell backwards and hit my head on the concrete flooring and I had a major concussion ✌️

At dance class the other day I was working on my solo but any the rest of the class was working on a trick and it was so bad of a fail even the teacher ended up on the floor somehow, and they missed the mat they were standing in the middle of. We had a good laugh about it
