    how did i know it was nate making that water bottle racket? lol. i think people dont realize that hammies and GPs each have their own personalities and preferences, and as you say, piggie feelings and ways to love and socialize, and experiences we dont know about. my own little hammie guy didnt pick me up all last week. it was also super hot. then yesterday, he came out of his nest 3x to be held and played with and we had a blast. i just take him as he comes. he also let me, sort of, put drops in one his eye. poor baby. people have moods, critters have moods. its all good, as long as you speak kindly and patiently to them and dont force it, they will respond as best suits them. :)

      With my hamsters I am fostering I let them crawl into a cup and then they will let me hold them but if I put my hand into their space even the friendliest Ones Will usually try to bite. But even the most aggressive Ones Will climb into a cup and let me hold them peacefully

    • @kerseykrewzoo

      This is also true with pet mice as my own experience with 2 “accidental” white mice (that are now named Stuart and Mo) has taught me. Sometimes they don’t want a thing to do with me but most times Mo will come try to crawl up my arm instead of in my hand and Stuart just wants to be hand fed treats lol.

    One of my girls, Papaya, was absolutely not interested in us for an entire year. She wouldn't come when the rest of the herd was getting a peaflake and she would run away when you got close. Slowly but surely however, she started trusting us, and realising that those giants that give food aren't so bad after all. Her tameness started growing exponentially, and now, a couple months later, she wants to be pet almost all the time, comes up to us and is generally more comfortable and sleeping out in the open. She even flops down when you pet her. My heart has melted completely from this entire process, it has been so heartwarming to watch her get more comfortable and so rewarding to see her finally trust us. Scotty is right, it really takes some time, but your patience will pay off

    • @ScottysAnimals
      @ScottysAnimals  2 года назад

      Yes exactly, earning the trust of prey animals is very rewarding. But the goal should be to provide them a safe and secure home and not what you get out of it. But I look at it as if I can build trust with them then they are less fearful and that is good for them. Each individual has a different personality and you can treat them differently. Hormonal teenagers can be interacted with differently because they are more aggressive and outgoing. Babies are skittish and seniors require more of a gentle touch and prefer their privacy more

    I’ve had my girls a year and they will now come get a “cookie” out of my hand. I travel with my girls and dachshund to take care of my piggies. Once I have them, they are great smugglers. They like to play the game, who can get closest to me under my chin.

    I’ve had my two boys for about a year and one of them especially, has begun to be really calm when I hold him. If they are in their house, usually stick my hand in and gently lift the house while I am still holding them. It makes for a very easy pick up!

      It can take a while to develop trust. But think about your own experience and how often we make excuses so we don't have to go out even if we have plans. Piggies would rather stay home than be picked up. But above all they love treats!

    I feel my piggies have evolved over the years I’ve owned them! I try to respect their personalities and handle them the way they show me through their behavior. I love to cuddle them but try to pay attention to the subtle signs to know when I could pick them up, and once I do pick them up, I put them back as soon as they seem restless. I want them to be happy and content and feel secure!

  • @theoldgreyfilly

    The biggest thing I've found is just spending time with them! I live with 11 little dudes and dudettes and just being in the room with them and watching their behavior, you get to know who is outgoing, who's shy, and who is looking for food (ok all of them, all the time) or attention. Simply going about your business cleaning cages, refilling water bottles, hay or pellets, they get to know who you are. A couple of mine don't mind being picked up so if one is looking for that, it's cuddle time! The rest see that and, well, monkey see monkey want! 😝 It can take me forever to clean cages because I end up cuddling with them or just watching their crazy antics!

    Aloha Scotty, thank you for such an honest, realistic, take on it ALL. My first total endorsement is that yes, Piggies = Patience. I am a gentle, knowledgeable person who has had quite a bit of experience with animals, mostly dogs, a little bit with cats, (unfortunately I am allergic to cats and believe me, that is one of the biggest bummers and heart breakers in the world 😭.) Bonding with a Guinea Pig, I believe, is extremely Spiritual. Guess that’s a strange statement and yes, maybe it is; but Piggies, I don’t know how else to say it , they are Mirrors, TranSsparent, Amazing, Empaths, Very Smart, Teachers, Adorable, Extremely GENTLE, LOVING, Unbelievably ENTERTAINING and i
    Very giving Beings.When it’s time for Treats, which consist of Romaine lettuce, Parsly, sometimes Cucumber, Yellow Pepper, Carrot, etc, Squeaker is waiting and wanting me to come on over to his habitat and of course, eat lettuce and veggies, but I believe that he really, actually likes me and we hang out, and that’s because I have been so patient with him, as he has been with me. Scotty,
    your channel has also helped so much. You have the“Gift,;” and so do I, of being an animal Empath, so does anybody and everybody whose heart just melts when they see a doggie or kitty cat, or bird or Guinea Pig, or Turtle or any animal, and watch your and other channels like yours that expose the magnificence of having the good fortune to have any animal in your life. And a Guinea Pig! BINGO; Can’t get much better than that! Having a Fur Baby in your life, or any pet, is Fortune - and life is Fortune .💞🐹💓🕊☮️ 💗.x

    Часто люди непонимают животное и оно страдает. Мой свинка то же боялся выходить из домика. Спустя год стал выходить и громко просить вкусняшку. Социализация животного формируется в первые 2месяца после рождения. Все зависит от заводчика.

    It must be so much work to clean all those pigs. I'm certainly not saying it's not worth it because if I were able I would have that many myself, but what is your process? Surely with your years of experience you must have a way of doing it that doesn't take as long as I imagine it too when I look at the amount of cages 😁

    • @ScottysAnimals
      @ScottysAnimals  2 года назад +2

      Well I personally do believe if Souls exist all animals have them. Expecting your pet to love you in the same dimensions and complexity as a human is not fair to that animal. Anthropomorphizing animals is not fair to the animal and in the end prevents you from having a true connection. That said, I do believe that animals are people. Forcing your own opinion, belief, vision, and perspective on to another is not fair. It's best to see them for how they actually are and treat them accordingly. People refuse to see them as prey animals that is not fair to them. People see them as owing them something oh, that is also not fair. And make these videos for the well-being of animals and their human caregivers. This is just RUclips so take my advice as what it is and with a grain of salt. I'm just a guy on RUclips
