Old Age Pensioner Wild Camping On The Edge Kinder Scout

- As I have just become a OAP, why not pick one of the highest and wildest places to wildcamp in the Peak District, the northern edge of Kinder Scout.
This wildcamp is all about the fantastic scenery and rugged terrain of the northern edge, and by using my drone I hope to show it off in all its beauty.
Mate, your footage, videography, theatrics and style are absolutely top flipping notch work. The amount of thought and effort you put in to these productions is astounding.
Thank you, its worth it for all the kind comments.....thanks Pat
He's incredible isn't he. So, humble with it, it would seem
@@patrickdickinson6492 this is Jane from Amazon seller, we have outdoor smartphone, and would love to invite you to test it, are you interested?
@@janejia6071 Why? Do you want his location tracked at all times so that he can't enjoy his own heritage without being harassed by people saying he can't camp in the middle of nowhere. Sorry, but F**K amazon.
@@RedScotland A good comparison! But did the great Tom ever have a pub-in-a-shed I wonder? (If he did it probably had the cleanest floor in the world... :-) )
This bloke is a legend! Inspirational 👍
Thanks Andrew, such a beautiful place.....Pat
66 your the man👍
Very inspiring...
When the buzz and bleep world wearies me; and I yearn for respite.
I find solace in a walk alone, on the barren Moorland height.
No flowered glades or pasture. No bright birdsong filled trees.
Yet in it’s wild majestic starkness; more beautiful than these.
Best of all are the rainy days, when the whitened clouds hang low:
Pale orange sunlight, tinting the hills, with a gentle, heavenly glow.
Few are those, who venture, on such days to higher ground.
As sweet nature softly sighs, when there’s no one else around.
High solitude is a thing to bless, it calms the heart and mind.
Any wanderer one may meet, is a soul mate of your kind.
Some may briefly sit and share the hot fluid from a flask.
But conversation is always slim. No questions there to ask.
Mostly, another encountered, will pass by, with a smile and a nod.
And you know that they wish to be alone; as you are with your God.
For whatever God may be or not, on the lofty wasteland place:
Here is splendour. Here is glory. Here is the stillness of true grace.
Long may you continue to continue Mr Patrick, you're an inspiration to all of us .
👍💟🏴
Beautiful that Malc, I have just printed it off and will properly read and absorb it with a wee dram later tonight....thanks Pat
Absolutely amazing video patrick
That's a beautiful poem.
That was lovely Mac.
Pat, your an inspiration. I'm a couple of years younger than you and when I'm struggling up a hill I always think "Pat can do this, - I can do this"
Yes but Pat did make a pact with the devil 😆
@@leeetchells609 😆
I think that as I,am making my way up, it was a killer, not that I would of shown that....Pat
Probably one of the most inspirational people on RUclips. Simply stunning.
Thank you so much.....Pat
I'll second that. Just a lovely ,genuine guy. People like Pat are getting rarer every day!
@@johnnymacf1 sadly that’s true. I’m struggling to find amazing people like him. Not rotted by money like my family and so on. I know there’s good people out there but who has the time to find them?
That took my breath away Pat, you have got these videos down to a fine art if you tube gave Oscar's out you would get them every time, look forward to your next adventure, keep well Jim
Thanks Jim, can,t go wrong with scenery like this, all the best Pat
As a fellow Sheffielder now living in Cheshire and avid viewer I’ve been a fan for years, way better than TV. But I’ve just read a load of comments and they’re right Pat, you’re a chuffin' legend. What a smashing bloke, take care Pat
Thanks David, sure I could see you in Cheshire from my ledge on Kinder.... all the best Pat
Absolutely magical mate. The amount of thought and energy you put in to your productions is just amazing. A full film crew could not produce much better. Full marks to you young man. I'm 84 and a ' senior citizen' I don't know what old age means.. lol
Your doing great, and I will follow your example, thanks Pat
This video was great, including the scenery. The drone certainly did its job, too. I got the feeling you were the only living thing for miles around, Pat. so cool, from the 🇺🇸 to the 🇬🇧 👏
One of the advantages of the area, you are the only person there, just beautiful, thanks Pat
Beautiful. Truly lovely film, wonderful colours in the drone shots. A pensioner with a pub shed can achieve any summit. Well done mate.
Thanks nice of you to say, thanks Pat
I totaly loved your vid us old folks it seems are expected to somehow to just fade away and just forget how we used to love & love our lives in the recent past . Ilive in what I belive the best country in the fast demishing wild country in the world, I am over 71 yrs old & I thank God for everything he has gifted me.
Thanks Len, just got to get out there, even close to home, and just enjoy it, thanks Pat
The drone footage shows stunning scenery.
Yes Andy, such a beautiful place....Pat
Greetings from Canada Pat! Happy Birthday, Whoo-Hoo! Three Cheers for Pat! We really love your videos; choice of locations, your always-interesting and insightful commentary, even your choice of music for background score. Very wise to leave the whiskey bottle at home this time, just imagine "Oh, my head's a bit spinny, think I'll go for a pee, whoops! Aaaaaaaa!" No, not worth it! You're far too valuable to us! Looking forward to seeing you in your garden with your summer gear! As always, thanks! Wishing you Love & Light, Morag & Donny xoxox
Lovely to hear from you, and it was my pleasure to show you one of the most spectacular gritstone edges in the Peak district, easy one in the gardern next, maybe end of month as away for part of June, thanks Pat
Patrick watching you is like watching a light in the darkness god bless you 🙏❤️🙏
So nice of you to say...... thanks Pat 😊

Pat, you're an absolute legend!! This has to be the best video you've created yet, the cinematography is absolutely next level!! Keep up the good work, you have a loyal following!!
Thank you, I do appreciate that, had to use the drone up there, out of this world, thanks Pat
I'm 63 year's young and I just love your content.
Thanks John, secret is not to act your age, which I find very easy, especially after a few beers...... thanks Pat
Many happy returns & welcome to 'the club'! We married in Sheffield and our two daughters were born there 1983 & 85. We moved to Devon 1990 and we always missed Sheffield; my wife died several years ago and my daughters? I think they are OK ..... Maybe one day I should return up t'north. Your videos mean a lot to me - thank you.
A nice place to live down in Devon, the city is changing, but the hills have stayed the same, thanks Pat
My respect Pat mate, your a legend, good luck and happy trails.....Jack.
Thanks Jack, nice of you to say, thanks Pat
Great video as always, Patrick. Last Thursday I did my first ever wild camp, inspired largely by your videos! I camped on Hallin Fell in the Lake District and it was an absolutely amazing experience, no doubt the first of many. Thanks for making these videos, your energy and enthusiasm for what you do really are inspirational!
That's great that Paul, hopefully the first of many, you will get addicted, all the best Pat 😊
Thanks for the video Pat. That first climb was steep indeed. And all the tripod shots, that you had to come back for the camera! Love the exhausted collapse. Great drone footage.
The collapse was definitely for real, just exhausted, but I had done it..... that's the main thing......... thanks Pat
I started out nearly having an heart attack watching you walk up that hill, to laughing when u laid down at the top! Sorry Pat🥰 A lovely video to watch with all it contained. Can’t wait for the next one 🤗
Thanks Natalie, the climb up was tough, and the collapse at the top very real, but so worth it for the stunning location..... thanks Pat
Hello Patrick.
I am not going to watch this till later. Childminder today. Will be taking my grandson home this evening. Then it’s onto west Pennines. I will check in with you tonight. Received my invitation to apply for my pension this week. Funny old thing, my brain still thinks I am 28.
Take care young Patrick 🔥
I feel exacly the same Kenneth, hope you enjoy the video, thanks Pat
You never fail to amaze pat. Absolutely stunning, thank you for all your efforts 👍👍
My pleasure 😊
Thanks fora great vdieo Patrick great effort from an oldy. I’m 67 and yesterday I hiked the whole perimter of Kinder Scout. 20 miles took 8 hours. We can still do it! The biggest isue on the nothern side of Kinder is in emergency there is no phone signal. Interestly I only saw 2 people on the northern edge and around 200 on the southern edge. Albeit I was early on the northern edge 8am to 11am and afternoon hiking on the southern edge.
Yes Alan, a great circular walk and yes I love the northern edge, basically because you get it to yourself....thanks Pat
"nobody will find me here!" They won't if that bloody big rock falls on you! 😂😂😂
Flat Pat 😜👍🏻
Been there since the ice age, so I took a chance, haha.....all the best Pat
Brilliant
" Been there since the ice age ", you or the rock !
@@Chris66able Certainly not Patrick he’s been here, there and every flipping where. He’s a LEGEND
Thanks very much for bringing back some great memories of Kinder and surrounding area.
We did this wild camping in the 1970s.
One of the trips we did in winter on the top of Kinder was in a plastic bag ,only one night duecto the condensation.
My friend Roy and i did it in the snow ,there were no insulation mats then ,we used 12 ,12 inch polystyrene tiles taped together to open into a mat ,very good insulation on the snow.tried the plastic bag twice ,could not overcome the condensation. Better as a bivvy.
Thanks again for these memories, im there now on the top of Kinder .
We are both from Sutton Coldfield so 1.5 drive and we are there.
Also we have done most of the caving up there for many years ,the memories coming back .Knotlowe mjnes ,awesome.
We are both over 80 now ,but still do walks up there ,but not so long.
Take care everyone.
Thanks again for the memories.
Roy and John.
Hello to both of you and so pleased my video haas brought back happy memories of Kinder, it looks like you did your early trips with some basic gear, but when your young you can put up with some discomfort . It is one of my favourite places but I,am trying to explore Bleaklow a bit more at the moment…..thanks Pat
Excellent content as usual, sir. Keep 'em coming!
More to come!
My head is spinning. Mr Dickinson your delivery is second to none. I am in no doubt, you will be famous. Drone footage, stupendous, brilliant and awe inspiring. Many thanks.
Be proud, be very proud. You are awesome.
Hi David and thanks for those kind comments, they are the only incentive I need to enable me to continue with my adventures and videos. The comments are so warm and kind..... thanks Pat 😊
Stunning film Pat! Great to see you back out in that beautiful scenery, enjoyed every minute as always!
Thanks Cher, such a beautiful area, thanks Pat
"I'm gong to see if I can still do it " That phrase alone had me respecting you Patrick.. What a brilliant attitude to have
Sometimes I feel " just get on and do it " that's what its all about.....thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Mate, I have nothing but admiration for you. I'm 60 in a couple of weeks & just getting into bushcraft & camping & I share your attitude of "Let's see if I can do it" even though people tell me that I'm too old
I was at the same spot late April - old shooting cabin in Ashop Clough! Nice spot. Oh yes, I became an OAP June 2019! Welcome to the club 👍
Good to join you.....thanks Pat
HaPpY Burfday you old Fart. 💟

Hi Michael, yes sad to see a old pub like the Snake Inn go, onward and upward now .... all the best Pat 👍
Good to see you getting back in the saddle after the recent bouts of coof imprisonment.
So good to be out.....thanks Pat
Just watched this for the second time. Laughed out loud when you pretended to collapse after your ascent . Just brilliant. Please do some more !!!
I will be returning to my wild camping very soon Roger, even back up the northern edge of Kinder……thanks Pat
Thank the lord I stay up late in Central Pennsylvania. I hope you're well, Pat. I hope your family is equally well. Take care!

Hi Patrick. Glad to see you well - remember 'age' is just a number !!.
Thanks for another great video. Cheers, Michael
Yes beginning to see the truth in that....thanks Pat
I was up near Hope Cross hammock camping last Friday completely out of sight in the Woods. Put the tarp up then walked all round to check it was out if sight. Only thing was the weather was terrible, never stopped raining and blowing till the early hours. Walked over to Crowden head area with a view to camp for a second night but my usual spot was a bit soggy and I had been up to my knees in a peat bog. So rather than mess my gear up I headed over to Jacobs Ladder then Edale Station I'm 73 next week so I was ready for home by then.
Despite the weather it was very busy on Kinder.
Hi malc, sounds a great adventure, even if weather a bit rough, hopefully should start to dry up soon, all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 living at Norton near Doncaster I use my bus pass. It takes 3.1/2 hrs to Hope station then a lot of walking to end up at Castleton for the bus home, the whole trip for me is to do it for free. So after watching your video I'm planning a route to the ridge and back to Hope.
great vid pat, reminded me of tour de france going up jenkin when you were climbing up hill, went camping myself for 1st time in many a year on wharncliffe craggs and realy enjoyed it.
Its just so good to be out and high up .....thanks Pat
Let's just take a moment to admire the wonderful photography in this video! SO beautiful. I absolutely love your videos!
Thanks so much 😊.....such a beautiful wild area, thanks Pat
I think you were safe, i cant imagine anyone was going to roll up there on a Quad bike 😂 . Great video. Stay young 👍
My thoughts exactly...thanks Pat
Hello there Pat. Bet you was out like a shot, the weather has turned beautiful. God bless, I'm a year younger, Those photographs are simply stunning well done, the night one on the ledge was brilliantly done.
Hi Mary, i see we are of similar age, this is such a beautiiful area, love it, thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 yes it appears stunningly beautiful, aren't we lucky 🍀 to live in Great Britain x she's a beauty alright🌺🌿🍁🍀🌹🌷😊 made me cry
Looking forward to watching this one later Patrick. I turned 66 myself 3 days ago. I've just invested in a Big Agnes 3 wire bivy. I need something you can just tuck away anywhere, because around where I live, in Lincolnshire, farmers would like to exterminate walkers with a can of something nasty and so discretion is crucial.
ATB.
Happy birthday.
Know what you mean Frederick, and great to share the same birth year, thanks Pat
66 and a lot fitter than most 30 years younger than you pat.....What an inspiration you really are...Bless you. x
Just got to push yourself that little bit more life is for living and getting as much out of it as possible...... thanks Pat
Gordon Bennett! That's an overhang you don't want to fall down. Another awesome video.
Hi Ed, been there many years, reckon I would risk it, haha, still be there for many thousands more, all the best Pat 😊
Recovering from major heart surgery, there’s no better therapy than travelling with you to Kinder Scout. Thanks Pat. Absolutely brilliant.
Great to have you along with me Malc
A masterpiece of filming Patrick, and top notch entertainment! I have faithfully watched your videos ever since I stumbled upon the Sheffield pub crawl episode a couple of years ago. I also love the pub shed videos...you never fail to put a smile on my face. Keep up the excellent work, it is well appreciated, as you can gather from the comments on here!
Hi Chris, yes some amazing comments, sort of makes it all worth while when you read them..... thanks Pat
Pat. Once again you best anything I have seen on tv for months. The footage just keeps getting better and better.
Can,t go wrong with scenery like this... thanks Pat
Your videos are a benchmark of excellence.
This one is a joy to watch and I have viewed it five times now!
Thank you really apprteciate that, thanks Pat
You remind me of my dad. he used to go all over the moors around Manchester and often took me with him. he kept going all the way until he was 72 and died of cancer. some of my favorite places are knowl hill and Ashworth valley, Blackstone hedge, and up peel tower way. it is honestly a pleasure watching your videos.. keep it up they are great.
Thank you, and I hope I,am still wildcamping in my 70,s. Such a beautiful area to camp in, hope to spend many more days up there, thanks Pat
Just got back in over an hour ago from a Hard Days Trek from Lodge Moor to Derwent Edge via Stanage and what better way to celebrate a 56th Birthday is to watch one of Pat Dickinson's Excellent Videos. Your videos are much more entertaining than some of the utter dross that is on TV at the moment. Keep it up Pat.
Thanks for that, now the area well, lived at Lodge Moor for many years with my parents, all the best Pat 👍
Patrick Dickson is a national treasure .. with a truly wonderful Channel . he is a joy to watch

Great video Pat - for me, your best for a long time. But then, it's your first chance to be out wild camping and your wild camping videos are the ones I enjoy the most.
It's a shame that the messy brigade have given us a bad name and turned the gamekeepers against us once more. As long as we leave no trace we do no harm to their land or the environment.
Camp on Pat!
Noel
P.S. - I think I'm about 8 1/2 years older than you!
Yes so good to be back up in the hills, especially a location like this. Going to follow the wildcamping rules and should be OK, like we always have done in the past, looking forward to many more adventures, all the best Pat
another great trip Patrick your video's make me miss the hills now im living in the flatlands of Lincolnshire
It's really a great video
A totally different landscape Rebecca, although after climbing up onto Kinder I sometimes wish I was somewhere less hilly..... thanks Pat
Magnificent Patrick! Took my breath away. You are such a joy to follow. All the Best Pat
Really nice of you to say Jez.. thanks Pat
Your only as old as you feel Pat, you smashed that ascent mate. Many years of wild camping enjoyment ahead, all the best mate, Lee
I hope so Lee, all the best Pat 👍
I'm just 18 months behind you Pat but if I can keep doing it like you I'll be happy. It's a shame we can't wild camp in England but to be honest I would hate to think what some places would end up like if we could, some folk just don't give a damn. The mantra "leave no trace" falls on deaf ears for some. Pat Dickinson, the legend of Sheffield.
Thanks Stephen, very similar ages, I think we are all going to wildcamp in the proper way to preserve what we have, all the best Pat 👍
Absolutely cracking video again Patrick. I'm in absolute awe of you and I luck forward to watching all your videos. Thanks for sharing with us. Wonderful.

Immense Pat! This is such a triumph in cinematography. The views spectacular mixed with your down to earth, no nonsense get on with it attitude!
Thanks Jamie, such a beautiful spot to spend the night, thanks Pat
Your videos Patrick are the only ones I never fast forward, just watching the whole thing, as intended, from start to finish.
It would be cool to see "behind the scene" video - what does it actually takes to make such an awesome story, besides the awesome story itself... gear, your thinking process what to film, how to film, what works for you, what doesn't, production challenges, post-production workflow, etc.
Thanks again. I really enjoyed it. Bless you. Stay well and hope to see you soon again
Hi Alex, and thanks, if you look at a video I made about 6 months ago, it explains all my thinking behind a video and how I film it called, How I make a RUclips Video.
Amazing up there, thanks Pat

My pleasure Jez, such a great feeling when I got to the top, completely knackered, but such a great feeling.... thanks Pat 👍
Wow Patrick! I’ve just worked out how to get your channel on my widescreen TV and this episode made my morning! Thank you! My next trip out will most definitely be the Northern side of Kinder, thank you for your inspiration. I love watching you re-hydrate your dinner and make jokes about not falling off the edge after a tipple, glad you had hot chocolate 😂 X
Hi Sarah, yes the northern side of kinder scout is amazing, fantastic views, very isolated if you like wide open spaces all to yourself , just what I want when wild camping.

Been up kinder twice in a week. In love with the beauty of the place and there's that much to see I keep getting lost😂 ended up away a few miles from Edale in a farmers field with with my son. The hike was one of the best days I've ever had. My son and I were blown away. Very well produced and thoroughly entertaining. Keep up the good work😎
