I have 2 149's. A modern new one, and a vintage from the mid 60's with a gorgeous BB flexible 14k nib. Writes absolutely out of this world.... The modern nib is really nice, but pedesrrian when compared with the vintage nib. Having said that, every time I use the 149, I always marvel at the quality of the pen.....
Hello Lewis. Wonderful review. I have managed to accumulate 7 MB 149 pens. I like its size. And while I dont have large hands, and I have suffered a series of strokes as a result of brain cancer, writing with a pen of its size actually makes writing comfortable. Anyways, thanks for this wonderful review.
The comparison with the iPad is right on, in a day when everything is made to become outdated and thrown away its nice to see something that is made to last a lifetime and beyond.
Just received mine. 149 F Nib. Now my favorite pen. It's very wet but I love it. Mine is rose gold and I am amazed how great this pen writes right out of the box. A true Grail pen
Lovely review! The pen and the accompanying stationary are superb! I can see that you obtained the writing pad from Smythsons. The writing pad must also be quite dear.
Could you please supply the exact model and the leather type and size of your portfolio/agenda? Its wonderful, but there are lots on the website - cant find yours. Love your video!!
Not sure if I would spend $900 for a pen. However I am a big fan of Montblanc so I chose a lesser pen- the MB Starwalker Mystery fineliner. I really like it. It is 1/3 the cost of the 149.
Loop Garoo Its certainly expensive but it is a great pen. I was fortunate enough to be blessed with a 10-year gift from my employer and I put it toward this pen :)
I just had a serving of crow. I now own the MB 149. Its a beautiful looking pen- the black resin really shines with the gold trim. Nice huge nib looks like a pocket knife. I got mine in medium which gives a gusher of thick ink on paper. I been writing constantly with it since I got it a few days ago. My favorite fountain pen is still the Pilot custom 823 but the 149 comes in a close 2nd.
I've been considering one of these for awhile. Have you ever been asked about crossing your "t's"? I've never noticed anyone doing that before. Enjoyed the review very much.
Lewis, thanks for the review, it was most helpful as my hands are very similar to yours and I was wondering about whether to go with the 146 or the 149? That said, in my gut, I knew the 149 was the one for me. One question: you never mentioned the size of the nib, or if you did, I didn't hear it. A very nice line, indeed! Use it on good health! Cheers ~ Jack
Hi Jack. This is a medium nib. They have to be sent away to have the nib changed and the MB boutique where I got this only stocked medium. It's wonderful though.
@@perthyn1 I think there is variation between nib sizes from brand to brand. Japanese brands tend to all be very fine compared with European counterparts. Hope you enjoy writing with yours!

Your Mum is absolutely right ! Very elegant pen and your writing looks very nice here. I have the 149 in a fine nib : it’s perfection. Enjoy !

Shawn Grage Agreed. Montblancs are meant to be handed down whereas iPads are tomorrow’s rubbish.
+wisperingbeard I don't use my iPad much since I got into collecting fountain pens.
Great reveiw but what size of nib it is

I like the Pelikan M1000 and the Sheaffer Legacy too !But Mont Blanc 149 is so gorgeous and so sweet to use even for a woman hand !
@@lewisdoyle hi,
Excellent review. Which nib did you get it changed to?
@@lewisdoyle I have a 146 with a medium nib - but it feels more like a fine to me. Is this a common experience?

What is the nib

Hi Lewis, I like the Gillio leather folio in your review - is it A4 or A5 size ?
Colin Surman Hi, its an A5 pad. apologies for the delay!
Just curious, why did you stop doing pen videos?
Steve Briner no reason. I will do another when I buy a pen worthy enough 😁
@@lewisdoyle awesome! Don't get me wrong. I do love your Bible reviews, but also really enjoy the tech and pen vids as well. 👍
Really? Eight minutes of chatter before pen hits the paper?
Really? 7 years of delay before writing a comment?
