His reference to the history was important: basically, in other similar historical events the people of Russia suffered big losses because they knew that the truth is on their side, and the future will be bright after it's over. I am very proud to have Grischuk's signature on my chessboard, when I met him at the WCC in Warsaw this December. This man has balls. He tells the truth and he's honest. For me, he already won this tournament whatever the results are or will be. Listen to his comments after the third round. I love that Grischuk spoke his mind about that war. On the other hand, the interviewer looked weak and lame trying to cut off Grischuk's use of this moment to speak out on something more important than the game.
Other people have mentioned it below but it bears repeating. Grischuk is great, but Andreikin is by far most vocally opposed to Putin in general and the war in particular a chess player. He and his wife daily repost information about war crimes that Russia commits in Ukraine, and he was pretty vocal before the war started. Now I fear for his livelihood and, frankly, his life if he stays in Russia. I hope that he would be welcomed in any Western country, had he made a choice to flee seemingly unavoidable eventual persecution.

Maybe other players are waiting for an interview as well. He also could not find a good justification to his interruption, I guess he just didn’t think it through. Grischuk could not be entirely mad about it since the reason the interviewer gave made no sense. Maybe other players are waiting for an interview as well. He also could not find a good justification to his interruption, I guess he just didn’t think it through. Grischuk could not be entirely mad about it since the reason the interviewer gave made no sense. Anyway he should have realized it was time to make an exception on any rule of interview length he was given. Mistake and lack of empathy or no understanding of the seriousness of the situation.
