You two guys are the bomb role model for newly emerging human with such reverence, caring and appreciation for life. Very helpful, generous video. Always John's videos are generosity in action, proof you can powerfully lead and teach and still be humble and kind. I had to return a product to Ron that I purchased on their site and he was sooo gracious accepting it back, saying they not only want to make money but friends too. I was very touched and hope other merchants can learn this approach.
My son is Type 1 diabetic and controls blood sugar with raw living foods, they are all "free" foods, appreciated the tips on the grape leaves - excellent information.
I have sections of 3' tall plastic trellis netting (one inch squares) I use once the peas start go grow. When I first rake over the garden in the spring, the cats come into it the first night. So I started laying the trellis netting down on the garden until the seedlings start to come up. By that time, the cats seem to lose interest. They just love it when the soil is first turned over and raked smooth.
thank you so much for this one. I live in Israel in a dryer part of the country. I am experimenting with a friend concerning which plants will work out in her garden. i have a 4 window garden, but it does help to grow as much as I can. She has a half dunam about 1/4th of an acre. Her front yard is not very usable due to children. We love them but they can mess up the garden. I will send her this video. Thanks again.
Grape leaves with almonds yum. I put nasturium flowers in my salad. awesome nutritious n fresh.what time of yeardid u do all this? Love the fact of the wire detering cats.thank you for yourvideo.
I don't live in the desert, but I do have cats. great ideas for every garden with the galvanized fencing, keeping areas warm... and cool. Love Ronnie too. He's great on the video, very informative.
Dates, figs, prickly pears, almonds, tree tomatoes, rosemary, bay, lavender, basil, portulaca(purlsane). Heck if you put up enough palms you can create a microclimate and have perennial tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers. They have a great setup though, I would love some dolmas from those grape leaves.
very interesting and Ronnie is great on video.. very knowledgeable..Mins must be a very special lady.. looks like what you are doing is keep you both vibrant and healthy. :)
@Mcvthree3 Hi Mcvthree3 whoever you are. I read your comment tonight and wanted to say "thank you" for lifting my spirits and making me feel so good. Minh and I will be making more videos very soon. Making videos is our way of communicating and making friends, even though we may never meet some of the friends we make, we appreciate and love them so very much, seriously. We are building a little studio in Littlefield Arizona and will be putting out a weekly show in 2 months. Much love, Ronnie
Wow! great video! I found it very interesting and I'm not even in the desert. Ronnie needs his own youtube channel I Look forward to seeing more. Thank you!
Great idea with the galvanised fencing and shade cloth! We're in Australia and the sun is very harsh in summer. We love watching your videos John, there is always something we can learn and apply even on the other side of the world. We've even found volcanic rock dust but no luck with the mycorrhizae yet. Thanks again!
I’m trying this idea to keep my cats AND chickens out of the garden beds as well. When I moved to my arid hill in southeast Oklahoma we were in the midst of a terrible drought. The highest ground temp I measured back then was 135F. Nothing grew but the sturdiest weeds. And then grasshoppers. We were overrun with grasshoppers until I got chickens. I’m vegetarian, and my flock of 17 are pets. But they have helped me turn things around on this hill! However, they love dust baths in my garden beds. Another pest that became a big problem was rodents. Fixed that!! I have 8 cats that roam my 20 acre hill. And love every one. The rodent population has drastically decreased. But there again...the garden beds. Where there’s small animals, in our area, that means predators will shortly follow. Coyotes. And a bobcat now and again. So now I have 3 protector dogs. They do a great job. Okay, I’m like the woman who swallowed a fly, if you’ve heard that childhood silly song. But this idea may really help me out! I do have a concern as to what to do as the plants grow. I’m guessing I’ll figure it out. But any suggestions are appreciated!
I was checking out the old videos John when I found this, some great tips for me since I live in the Mojave Desert. I live on the boarder of Arizona and Nevada boarder too.
this was great. thx. glad you both came on at the end. i was looking for something for the beach area of southern cal. this was perfect. i'm a subbie now. thanks again.
The cat tip was great, there is nothing planted in my yard front, side, and back that you can't eat. I just finished removing all the rock because it was such a waist and in Az it just holds the heat, and it just looks bad to me. I am trying to encourage my neighbors to do the same but for now they are looking forward to sharing in my salad bar so for.
Great Video! My neighbors tail-less cats like to use my garden as a litterbox.I'm definatly doing this next season. Can you make a video on cold weather gardening/permaculture video for us folks in Alaska?
I live in the high desert, and am wondering how you deal with the wind? That is my major concern right now with it devastating everything. And how do you take care of the ants and aphids on your pom tree? I'm getting tired of squishing them lol.
Great!! idea how you managed to keep cats out of your garden. Like how you found another use for the fencing, adjust fence cover with shade cloth, shield plants from summer brutal sun💥I am in Phoenix. Giving your awesome ideas a try! helpful video.😁 Thanks for sharing.👍🤗
John, you magnificent goofball! I love your channel and have watched probably a hundred of your videos or more. I love your enthusiasm, and you are a wonderful spokesman for the hyper-local and raw food movements. That said, I BEG you to encourage Ronnie to create his own channel, or at least contribute frequently to yours. He is a gifted communicator and has an attractive camera presence. He's GOOD!!! We want to see much more of him and lovely Minh! Okay, that's all I will say about Ronnie
Can you give suggestions for what months to plant the various veggies you are growing? I've only had luck with onions in the past. I'm in Lake Havasu, AZ and want to have something growing year round. Great video, thank you for the info....and a history lesson too!
Great Video..... Do you have any suggestions for keeping dogs from digging up my garden. I had my dog the other day dig up several watermelon plants, and some cucumbers.... he literally destroyed 1/3 of my raised bed.... Any suggestions would be great... Thanks
@gloorbit Mins is truly a gifted Chef, though she refuses to call herself a "Master". Minh was raised by a mother that was 100% raw, yes 100% raw. Minh has been eating and preparing raw food for her entire life (62 years). She has made two award winning raw food prep dvd's that have helped thousands of people enjoy delicious, simple raw food. Thank you gloorbit, much love going out to you, Ronnie (& Minh)
@Thaneii Wow! Thanks, this is Ronnie. Having been called an "idiot" so many times, it is really cool to read your comment. Much love to you my brother or sister, whoever you are ..... Ronnie
**** QUESTION*** Why do you not want to eat grape leaves that are green on one side and lighter/whiter/yellower on the back? I think my grape leaves are very much lighter on the back side.... : (
@crudinette Hi Colette, hope everything is going great in France. Minh and I love your passion for healthy food and we so much appreciate your friendship.
Wow I wish my garden was that big :O) BEAU-tiful garden thank you for sharing the tips. Wow I have never seen a pommegranett tree before . Thank you Ronnie and Min you are inspirational . And thanks John for showing us the garden too :O)
This is so informative and interesting! I can't wait to plant some grapes and eat raw grape leaves wrapped around something yummy for breakfast. Thanks!
I adore Ronnie and Min! I agree with someone down below, I'd love to see more on your channel Ronnie....hint, hint. I'm in Texas and we have pretty much turned to desert, so I'm following desert advice closely. I'm sure Min has some wonderful gardening tips to share :) It was her sunflower greens video that got me started growing those and other micro greens. Of course now I have to find some of those He seeds, they sound wonderful!! PS, John.... still love you too ;)
@lonedoggy17 My experience n the desert is that the ones with white or light backs don't taste very good. But if yours taste good in your climate, great!
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST, TWO THUMBS UP, I think you found a star John, better sign him up and get a percentage :D Thanks for the tips Ronnie, very informative & entertaining (Roman Marches -Biblical reference), new things to consider for planting/eating and easy to grow. I think I'll look for those "He" seeds in O.C. Little Saigon, Thanks
so inspiring! I want a garden - doing my best with containers on concrete. I love the ingenuity of raw food folks - we are a creative group! blessings to Ronnie, Minh and of course you John!
I have wild grape vines all over my yard. My brother in law thought they was weeds. I showed him the grapes. He thought because the grapes was small and hard they was not grapes. I told him, No, grapes don't start out big and juicy. Just like Tomato's, they start out small and hard, and grow till they are plump and juicy.
Great Great video, John. I live in the desert too. About to make raised beds but also holding back because of the heat like Ronnie said. Thanks to you and Ronnie, I've learned how to grow in the summer here. About HẸ, it's a very good chive using as food or medicine (in eastern medicine). Here's a little wiki info about it (wiki/Allium_tuberosum). Too bad, there're info about using it as medicine only in Vietnamese wiki (wiki/Hẹ). I wish I'd have the Hẹ seeds.
@TheGardenTech Thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate it. I am constantly trying to learn how to improve my delivery so I can most effectively communicate the philosophy I so believe in. If you want to, email me at rskurow@yahoo.com and I will send you a draft of my book/manuscript. Your time is precious, the book is short, so if you would honor me, and if you have the time, I would be so grateful if you could give me your thoughts on it. Much love, Ronnie
Thumbs up for Pomegranates! Going further on the Biblical reference, many believe the Pomegranate could have been the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. I guess that's why we grow them so well here in Sin City!
@mysciencenow I would love to if it were legal. Marijuana seeds are THE MOST BENEFICIAL SEEDS FOR HUMANS. This is a fact, not my opinion. Much love, Ronnie
Get some cats of your own. Train them to shit in a sand box outside in a specific place. They will keep other cats out and prevent shitting and worse yet digging up the seeds. It will also keep the birds at bay - not all of them but certainly less :) Just some idea for people who are good with cats.
High ^5 to Ronnie, Was to stretch the food dollar Bro. Everyone should be doing similar, who have space. Smack that neighbor upside his head, and try to educate them. However, like I have tried, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. Sad for some people.
Great Video! Thxs for sharing.. Great couple! Do they have a UTube channel? Also I'm single and looking for a Raw Vegan Male... Who loves gardening.. If Anyone is Out There... HaHaha... :-) EAT WELL, BE WELL!!

@ArizonaAdventures Check out Willis Nursery or Willis Orchards, that's where I got that one.
Thanks for the reply ! Keep your videos coming.
Would you suggest this method in the south east? I am wondering if I just keep the wire down and let the plants grow through the wire -like tomatoes.

Where can i get/buy HE Seeds?
He went on and on so much about eating grape leaves and the wonderful benefits of it that I expected him to say he was really 120 years old.

Time to get a Routwieler to eat those cats.

the fenceing on the raised beds to keep cats out does not work for all cats i caught my cat stradleing the fence just to use it as a litter box.
