    Spoilers for wind and truth:
    The ending of this book may have been Brandon Sanderson’s best work this book ending perfectly balances the ending of an arc, but the expanding of the world. I think this book perfectly shows us at the scale of this story is going to be something never before seen. I also like how odium seemed unbeatable throughout the whole story and and Brandon doesn’t give us the illusion that this is someone who can be defeated in 10 days most authors would have had the characters pull something out of their a** And win in the end, when someone who battled for thousands of years never won

      I would say its 'essentially' the same as hemalurgy, or at least that's what I expect to find out in coming books, and that each form of investiture will have its own form of hemalurgy.

    • @ShirleyTimple
      @ShirleyTimple 5 дней назад

      Correct. Hemalurgy is basically blood magic and it's unclear if that's involved here. The ability to infuse crystal via light may remove the need to pound metals through an invested person to steal their power, but it's unclear to me if that's the case here. Simply placing the infused crystals through the eyes giving "the sight" makes sense without the bloody hemalurgy aspect.

    • @TomBob88
      @TomBob88 2 дня назад

      It's been confirmed Hemalurgy works Cosmere wide as long as you know the bind points. They use metal on Scadrail because that is where the investiture is. On Roshar it's mostly contained in gemstones so they used gemstones in Moash's eyes. His eyesight (Investiture sight) is probably "powered" by the voidlight/warlight contained in the gemstones and probably a spren that's trapped in them (if there is one). So it might be a cross between Hemalurgy and fabrial science.

    I think that we need to take into consideration the fact that there are 5 more books. Adolin’s storyline bodes very interesting for the next arc. I also like the way they tie in Adolin’s teaching Yanagawn to play Forts with Dalinar’s ultimate gambit. Also, Rsyn’s interlude is much more interesting based on Sigzil’s story.
    Moash does become inquisitor-like. Inquisitors are created with metal spikes, Moash with crystals. So similar type of magic.

    Heeeeck yes!! I just finished it today as well and thought it was phenomenal. SO many unexpected twists and turns, and the revelations were just insane.
    One of the moments that made me laugh the hardest was Adolin being an absolute goof while proudly gallivanting around in Shadesmar on his floating horse Gallant 🤣
    I loved all the stuff with the spiritual realm, and the 'ticking clock' element had me in a chokehold. Definitely didn't see the outcome of the contest of champions coming, but I respect it so much. Can't wait to see what the 2nd arc is gonna contain, because things are not gonna be the same and I am ready for the chaos!!
    My only nitpick was that some of the character arcs/mentalh health conversations lacked some subtletly, and therapist Kaladin just made me roll my eyes a bit too much with his 'profound' insights lol. But the emotional pay-off of his journey was SO GOOD.
    Glad we both loved this!

    If Brandon doesn’t continue some of these characters, I’m gonna be highly disappointed. And I don’t wanna see them in flashbacks either. I don’t know how big of a time jump there’s going to be, but if it’s as big as I think it is, I don’t know how he could end this the way he did. Plus, he has always had Easter eggs showing that this was a huge universe with a lot of his other books but now I feel like we crossed a point where he has to have a series combining all of these characters from all of these different novels into some other big epic. I don’t think his fans are going to let him not do that at some point. My prediction is that eventually a lot of of these characters from these books are going to take up the shards after they defeat all of these gods and become the new gods of the universe.

      I think the Stormlight/Roshar time jump will only be about 10 years (as long as Thaidakar said it would take for the time dilation to settle). But because of the time bubble they are in, the rest of the Cosmere will advance more than those 10 years in that time. So we may be to the final Mistborn era by then.

I also really liked the payoff of his scenes teaching Yamagawn, both in that battle and with Dalinar's storyline. I've just finished the book and am left with an odd mix of satisfaction and disappointment. The lessons seems to be that everybody is just a person, including our heroes and our villains and the author Brandon Sanderson himself.
    Understanding the villains as just people takes away from their scary villain character and it does feel that some characters who were built up to be scary villains fell short in this book. And there was a character who could have been a great villain reveal but it turns out I was wrong about that.
    We've had 4 years of theory crafting which has been fun but I've noticed that the longer the break time went on the crazier and more elaborate the theories got. I might have enjoyed the book more if I had gone in straight from RoW.
    Oh well, I still enjoyed the ride and it is unfair to have too high expectations of the author / any one book. Too high expectations ruin your experience.
    Also I need to say something about it:
    There are a couple of scenes that trigger me because they feel like they are not necessary for the plot but only there to appeal to the Woke Zeitgeist. I love the intricate world building and the story overall but did you really need a transgender soldier? Did you really need a conversation about how it feels to be neither male nor female?
    There is a gay love story and I didn't mind it too much because it takes its time to explore it without being too in your face. But the other stuff was just not meaningful in any way to the story.

      The other shards were perfectly happy to leave Odium to run rampant on Roshar because he was bound to the system. As long as he was, they would never care. I think when Dalinar held Honor he saw that if he killed Gav, he would still only be kicking the can down the road for people on Roshar in 1000 years to deal with, and the only way to unite the shards against Odium in order to achieve a permanent solution (UNITE THEM) was to lose this battle in a way that he thought he couldn’t be co-opted into Odium’s service, and would make Odium a clear and present danger for the rest of the Cosmere. One man with a weakened shard didn’t stand a chance, but if the rest of the shards are united in the fight against Retribution, there’s a chance to end his divine serial killing spree and possibly neutralize the threat of the Shard itself

    I think Wit gave Sigzil the Dawnshard because Sigzil was one of his apprentices (this was alluded to in book 1). We don’t know exactly what that entails, but it is at least an apprentice in the art of telling stories. So he was probably his best option for someone he knew and trusted, without being too high profile as to be targeted for other reasons. It also helps that he was in Urithiru at the time. @ to be clear it's a good book, but I don't expect "good" from Sanderson. After what he produced with WoK and WoR proves that this may end up being the best epic fantasy series ever written. After seeing how he finished WOT I also believe him to be a man who can finish projects strong.
      This book was both a departure from the greatness of early Stormlight books as well as a failure to deliver a satisfying finish.
      The early books did a great job of portraying the hell of war, the difficulty of political scheming, and the general human condition. W&T feels like a CW fan fiction written by a millennial who has been through a lot of therapy (and may very well be better for it).
      The problem is the delivery of the mental health themes. I thought it was awesome in the first book to hear a protagonist wrestling with their own weakness and struggles, but what started to become heavy-handed in application in Oathbringer became overt in RoW. Now with W&T it feels like the mental health messaging has supplanted the actual story. I couldn't read through a single progression of events without a character having to trauma dump in a very "tell not show" sort of way.
      In short, Sanderson is telling us about mental health now when his greatness came from showing us mental health messaging in the past.
      As far as a finish, I understand this is one arc, but damn... I felt way more satisfied after Mistborn's first arc finishing than this one. I feel cheated after being told for years that the contest with Odium was the only way. Even in the divine flashbacks in the 100s chapters, the divine figures all knew Odium had to be contained. Then, suddenly, we have *yet another* oath breaking that is in actually really smart because Wit points out it was clever and no one else saw it as a possibility.
      Sorry, that's weak.
      I'm seeing trends in Sanderson's work that are troubling, and I was really hoping this book would set me at ease. It didn't.

    This book didn't feel like an epic fantasy. Azimir plot was the only epic piece of the story. The other 4 plotlines were a dud. I liked Sezths plot, but it was a cheap imitation of the last airbender.
