I was driven around in one of these at the goodwood festival of speed a few years ago.. it was MENTAL! seriously this is one hell of a machine, it could handle pretty much any hill, bump and jump it came across..

If the gear ratios were a little longer it would have gone a little faster.I'm sure they keep the gear ratios short for offroad use, but on road you can have long ratios to go fast. Also maybe stiffer springs could help. That all should help to get a fast laptime on the power circuit.
Amazing piece of engineering, nothing cheaper can get you into paris dakar than this can it?

The reason it went so slow was the suspension not the gear ratios.
The stig had to slow down a lot more to minimize body roll.
Offroaders have stiff suspensions
You need to majorly work on the design for better aerodynamics

Well, considering how many times Hammond has come close to shaking hands with death I would not put it beyond him being a "driving god."

Drove one of these in august and all I can remember, is that my ass hurt a lot because of the bucket seats. They were small, uncomfortable and the vantage point was really high (whereas bucketseats are supposed to LOWER your vantage point), compared to seats made by, for excample, Sparco. It was like sitting in a bucketseat made by Cobra.
But damn, this car has power and it performs great. I only got to drive it in city and in Alastaro Circuit, but this is one fun car (but still won't buy one).

@spya105 the original stig was black in the earlier shows. He "died" when they tried to get a Jag on nitrous to reach 100mph on a navy aircraft carrier, but he went straight over the edge.
Hammond was having WAY too much fun here. :)

@tommycatCA this is the old stig. most likely the "current" stig will be falling off a naval ship soon as well and we will be seeing a new coloured stig this spring

@TranceWTF I'm pretty sure they are talking 50,000 POUNDS which is a boatload of cash. Mind you, I don't know what the markup on things in Norway is, so you could still be talking the same currency.

@HachiZenki you have to remeber this is the FIRST season of top gear, u can tell with the black stig... he revelaed his identity so they made him drive off a air space carrier in some car with nos.... i think the white stig is to say he came back from heaven... never saw the first two seasons though. so dont quote me... but this car is years old, u probably cant buy it anymore.
This makes everyone a driving god. I would like to see my grandma drive one of this in Gobi Desert.
An engine that is "1/2 TVR, 1/2 Land Rover"... doesn't sound like a byword for reliability

@theylied1776 just FYI, they have to sign that same waiver in the dakar too... i mean i've never seen a baja 1000 so I'm not going to argue with you, but the dakar is still a pretty tough rally :)

i been in one 2 laps across a of road circuit in good rood fesitival of speed hold annually hes right it i a epic of road roader we must of been doing 50mph then suddenly hit a bank at like 45 degrees i thought it was going to tip it went strait round the driver told me it was a 500bhp jaguar engine the gear box was semi auto pull minus you know the short throw type dunno whats it called step tronic? the car i was in was a team spec daker car anyway the box alone was worth £25K apparently the best & properly one of the fastest £25 i ever spent :)
