I 100% agree about the Orpingtons they’re like having a golden retriever version of a chicken they’re so chill and quiet!

Those birds are a mess. I avoid that run sometimes cuz I get mobbed going in there. Doesn't take long to have a bird on each shoulder and make the mistake of sitting down with them for a minute will fetch at least 4 or 5 of them all over me.

I love my Buff Orpingtons. I also love my Barred Rocks. I have two black Australorps, but they are skittish and flighty. They are fine in with the other girls and have learned to tolerate me. But my buffs have the the most outgoing personalities and are definitely the three top dogs in the coop. The Barreds are sweet. They are calmer and seem very lovable.

This makes me excited cause I’m wanting orpingtons.
My grandparents had mainly orpingtons and while all were extremely friendly they were also quiet.

I enjoy watching chicken videos, so I watched your even though their "noise" is music to my ears!
If I wanted quite I'd get a cat!
I moved to the country in 2019 and have wanted chicken for a long, long time!
I have one rooster that crows 20 to 30 times an hour! He is very talkative and my older rooster is always chasing him when he gets tired of hearing him!
Great video, good info for those with restrictive space where the noise is an issue!
In the afternoon, after a hard day or even after an easy day, I sit on back porch drinking a single beer (that's my limit) listening to and watching my chickens!

My lavender orpingtons barely make a sound, even after laying an egg, they rarely do the egg song. I have 10 min long videos I've shown on my fb page to people recording how silent they are, I mean you can hear a pin drop. My buffs are definitely quiet but they make sounds here and there but it's not overtly loud. My Australorps are more vocal and do the eggsong but they don't just cackle and make noises all day for no reason. If they make a sound I usually get up and go look because it's either an alert to nearby danger, someone passed through my yard they don't recognize, my dog is chasing them, or they just laid an egg. So far, I'm loving all 3, I live on a cul-de-sac in a subdivision, so I definitely need quieter breeds and my neighbors thank me for it. They actually didn't even know for 7 months I had chickens. I eventually told them myself. Thats how quiet my girls are, freaking adore them ❤

Out of the 23 breeds I’ve owned, the German Bielefelder is the absolute quietest, most friendly I’ve ever owned. Even as hatchlings in brooder they’re very very quiet. I must’ve had bad genetics in all of my standard Orpingtons (all colors) & RIR , they were chatty. Except my English Orpingtons - they are very true to your info.

I have 5 hens and 3 nest boxes and they still fight over them. Apparently my chickens like to lay in total privacy with no other hens in the coop, so a line forms early in the morning with them screaming because they want their turn.

Good luck! Maybe try to network with your neighbors and get them in on it. Ask if they are willing to contribute kitchen scraps and tell them you’ll hook them up once egg laying starts. Govt letting felons out on these streets, giving money and hotels to illegal migrants breaking into the country ; but trust will come after our backyard chickens. Disobey.

I have 3 beautiful B. Australorps hens that just started laying 2 days ago. They have been very quiet for 5 months now UNTIL they laid that 1st egg! They are WAY too loud for my subdivision area. Maybe no one cares that much, but they sound as loud as geese flying over the house. Does anyone have a suggestion on a bantam sized chicken that does not have those kind of vocals? Vocal is fine, but not that loud? I wish someone had the resources to produce a video with sound comparisons between breeds at egg laying time.

99% of the noise my buff Orpington make is the pre-egg laying moaning (very loud and obnoxious) and post egg laying egg song. So about 1 hour of obnoxious sounds a day. The rest of the day they spend foraging and are virtually silent.
