As a Canadian, I never saw a gun in my life, never paid for healthcare, and was not broke after finishing my studies. I want to remain in such a country.
I saw someone getting shot in Toronto twice. Once in the street and once while I was in my office printing and looking down to the street. We have guns infiltrating our country from the US.
I moved to Canada 6 years ago as a permanent resident. I studied here and got a job. Never seen a gun or paid for Healthcare. Never got arrested while driving black. In fact, l learned how to say "sorry and thanks" after l arrived here. Protect this country by any means necessary. It's one of the last strongholds of civilization.

It's not about the USA not "loving" Canada. Do you have any idea all the imports that Canada bans American companies to sell into Canada? They do this to protect Canadian companies. The USA was not banning anything from Canada. That is a massive trade imbalance and must be addressed. The Canadian government is crying foul because they are getting all the benefits until now and they don't want it to stop. Yes we are being a bully now but it's time the gloves came off. We did the same thing with Mexico and they already caved. We will just import more in from Mexico at a marginal increase in transportation costs. While Canada's only real option in a new trade partner is the UK and EU. That will cost far more and when you combine that with the reduced price they will need to offer products into a now saturated market most Canadian markets don't have the profit margins to absorb this. Mexico is an export econmoy so Canada can't sell them much.

She is correct that millions of us Americans do not wake up thinking "lets stick it to Canada" now or in the past. Quite the contrary, when I was growing up, whenever the subject of Canada came up, it was never negative in tone, but quite the opposite. My wife and I used to travel through the states every year - staying in cheap motels and camping (you meet more people that way - and not the people you meet when you're staying in for a star hotels) and going all over America - 38 different states we visited. Individual Americans are some of the most open-hearted and generous and good-natured people. I agree. Add a 100% export tax to oil exports to the USA. Tariffs hurt the importing country more than the exporting country. They should use that. Nothing brings home a crisis better to an american than a dry gas pump.
Trade with the EU / UK can't happen over night. Even if it could there are only so many tankers in the world to ship our oil and they are most likely being used. It's not as simple as we want to sell elsewhere.

Both of my grandparents fought in WW1 and one went on as a CSM in the Cdn Army. My Dad was an RCAF pilot during WW2. He gave his life for Canada. I'm a vet and would give my life for Canada. Canada needs to put export taxes on potash, uranium, oil, gas, rare earths, nickel, and etc. There are no other suppliers at scale for these commodities. So raise the price America pays for these goods, and apply the profits to cover government spending. The trouble is Canada's pipelines from Alberta to Ontario, pass through the US. Canada needs to build more pipelines to ship at least 3 million bpd to NB or NS from Alberta. This way in the future Canada has options and is not dependant on America. Canada should be refining it's own oil and gas.
I agree. Plenty of countries in Europe need oil, gas and metals. Most Americans do know what pot ash is let alone what it's used for or begin to understand tariffs and who pays them.
Trudeau did say that a second wave of tariffs is coming at the end of the month and it will probably include all the basic elements you have mentioned. As far as the pipelines go, this may well be on the table but these things aren't built in a day nor are new trading partners. It will take some time but if Canadians stay as determined as they are today, it is certain our government will make sure that NEVER AGAIN will it place the economy so dependent on U.S. trade. The U.S. had it good and tRump decided to destroy it all. Think about it... if he wanted to reduce imports from other countries to MAGA, then all he has to do is decrease the allowable amount of imports (it's that simple) and have a plan on how we're going to internally provide the resources to make up for that decrease. Canada is self sufficient, usa is not, even with tariffs the domestic Americans will still need to consume similar levels. So Canada will mostly maintain revenues, but all Americans will pay huge out of pocket.

Their only land border is with the US, and they don't really have a lot of large shipping ports. The US is going to have a huge problem in all three areas. Their land borders are with Canada and Mexico who are now heavily tariffed, NOBODY likes you, and you DON'T have enough resources in the US to support your own population and manufacturing industry. It's not about the USA not "loving" Canada. Do you have any idea all the imports that Canada bans American companies to sell into Canada? They do this to protect Canadian companies. The USA was not banning anything from Canada. That is a massive trade imbalance and must be addressed. The Canadian government is crying foul because they are getting all the benefits until now and they don't want it to stop. Yes we are being a bully now but it's time the gloves came off. We did the same thing with Mexico and they already caved. We will just import more in from Mexico at a marginal increase in transportation costs. While Canada's only real option in a new trade partner is the UK and EU. That will cost far more and when you combine that with the reduced price they will need to offer products into a now saturated market most Canadian markets don't have the profit margins to absorb this. Mexico is an export econmoy so Canada can't sell them much.

My wife and I used to travel through the states every year - staying in cheap motels and camping (you meet more people that way - and not the people you meet when you're staying in for a star hotels) and going all over America - 38 different states we visited. Individual Americans are some of the most open-hearted and generous and good-natured people. Canada needs to put export taxes on potash, uranium, oil, gas, rare earths, nickel, and etc. There are no other suppliers at scale for these commodities. So raise the price America pays for these goods, and apply the profits to cover government spending.
The trouble is Canada's pipelines from Alberta to Ontario, pass through the US. Canada needs to build more pipelines to ship at least 3 million bpd to NB or NS from Alberta. This way in the future Canada has options and is not dependant on America. Canada should be refining it's own oil and gas.

Trudeau did say that a second wave of tariffs is coming at the end of the month and it will probably include all the basic elements you have mentioned. As far as the pipelines go, this may well be on the table but these things aren't built in a day nor are new trading partners. It will take some time but if Canadians stay as determined as they are today, it is certain our government will make sure that NEVER AGAIN will it place the economy so dependent on U.S. trade. The U.S. had it good and tRump decided to destroy it all. @@planecrazy6039 Yeah, genius in that he can create chaos and then blame someone else with the economic impacts. Think about it... if he wanted to reduce imports from other countries to MAGA, then all he has to do is decrease the allowable amount of imports (it's that simple) and have a plan on how we're going to internally provide the resources to make up for that decrease. Instead, he creates a 25% import tax on the US citizens that will increase prices and make it more difficult to make ends meet. Why do that unless chaos and ruining the American/Canadian relationship that has existed for hundreds of years is the purpose behind it? It's in retribution for the border? No, less than 1% of people entering the US illegally do so via the Canadian border (proven and published). So, please explain to me (seriously) why this is a good thing?

Saying what the Chinese did wrong or whatsoever. If the American government won't afraid of getting behind China, why did they have to do so many things to make China look bad. Nowadays, China is totally different than before. They caught up with the advanced technologies world in a very short time because the Chinese worked very hard. As a Canadian who has family, friends and colleagues in the US I'm deeply disappointed in the choices Americans are making, and I'm activity now limiting my exposure to American goods and any trips south.
Everyone keeps comparing economy size! Americans are missing the point. Sure maybe our economy will be devastated by this but you’ll lose global trade credibility!

Canada is self sufficient, usa is not, even with tariffs the domestic Americans will still need to consume similar levels.
So Canada will mostly maintain revenues, but all Americans will pay huge out of pocket.
On the other hand,
Canada has strengthened internally (yes, perhaps inconsistently) and will continue to strengthen in cooperation with its global allies, traditional and new. The USA has now destroyed ties with historic allies and aligned itself with its traditional‘enemies’. The American coup is almost complete. Canada will NOT be joining this dystopian state.

@@ronmeade4607 That's objectively not true. Diplomatic relationships, geography, and resource availability are all huge factors in global trade. Canada's problem is geography. Their only land border is with the US, and they don't really have a lot of large shipping ports. The US is going to have a huge problem in all three areas. Their land borders are with Canada and Mexico who are now heavily tariffed, NOBODY likes you, and you DON'T have enough resources in the US to support your own population and manufacturing industry. The US economy is headed straight for a collapse the likes of which we haven't seen since 1929.
