- It is, perhaps, appropriate that a horse who would go on to capture a nation would debut on the Fourth of July. It wasn't an easy debut, and didn't go as hoped for those who bet Secretariat into favoritism, but it was an encouraging one. The big red two-year-old found plenty of trouble but rallied to be fourth. It was his only off the board effort.
The beginning of a legend that will never died...BIG RED 🐎👏🏼♥️
The best looking horse I’ve ever seen. After this race he will be number one forever.
He was something else. I lived in Louisville and my husband insured horse farms. I looked Churchill Downs.
The greatest 4th place finish i ever saw in my life!!
Been following racing since 71.The two best I ever saw,was Secretariat and Seattle Slew🏇🏇🏇
Desde hoy te digo que tendremos que anotar a MEGA, ya verás por qué
An 'off' that absolutely riled him! After that race, he decided 'never again'!😢 He'll make them all, eat dirt! Watch!
Wikipedia, teh free encyclopedia´s quotation: "For his first start on July 4, 1972 at Aqueduct Racetrack, Secretariat was made the lukewarm favorite at 3-1. At the start, a horse named Quebec cut in front of the field, causing a chain reaction that resulted in Secretariat being bumped hard. According to jockey Paul Feliciano, he would have fallen if he hadn't been so strong" Greetings from Venezuela.
Caroni100 Such a gifted beast.
Apparently, from that point on, Big Red was never bullied on the racetrack again.
Holy crap, he got hammered at the start. Surprised he didn't get a concussion.
The one and only, my big boy secretariat love you
Laurin switched riders immediately after this race. The rest is history!
Not so; Paul Feliciano (who as an apprentice jockey had a 5 pound weight allowance) also rode Sec in his next race, which was his first win. Lucien Laurin chewed out Feliciano for a poor ride after the first race before Laurin saw the video, after which he apologized to the jockey.
@@Mikey300 Ron was wanted for both races, but he was already committed to ride at another track this day and fell on the 6ths so had to miss Secretariat's second race. So, Paul had his two best rides.
Lovely tribute.
Sure would be nice to be able to hear this
🙏❤🌹Secretariat🌹❤🙏
My goodness, look at Secretariats big butt as he goes into the clubhouse turn. He figured out that it’s not nice to be stuck in the middle of the herd. That was a pretty bad ride....I must say.
like if you came here after the movie
After "REmamber the Goal" and The Perfect RAce", yes, if you mean that?
Will move like tremendous machine...
And still Ron Turcotte never had to raise his whip. He guided Big Red as best he could through frustrating traffic, and once clear just let him go. Red knew what to do, he just ran out of ground.
It wasn’t Turcotte. He didn’t take over til his third race.
@@bunpeishiratori5849It was Paul Feliciano.
He had the most awful trip.
Which number was Secretariat's? I can't hear a thing, - was that bump to be seen? Picture black in that corner..Thanks.
he's the 4 horse
Winner came to Venezuela as a sire. Not even modest sucess.
