  • The Peradeniya Rest House is a 200 year old colonial type bungalow, and was once home to Captain Dawson, who undertook the Colombo-Kandy road construction project in 1820. Today, the location is popular with locals and tourists alike. In 1948, the building was taken over by the Kandy Municipality and converted to a rest house. A unique attribute of the rest house is that it still retains its signature antique possessions from the bygone era!
In 1996, Peradeniya Rest House was taken over by Mr. Upul Jayarathne, the current Chairman of Royal Group and gave it a whole new lease of life. The Rest House comprises of 35 A/C and non A/C rooms, which also includes suites and a swimming pool. The rest house also holds a public bar and a VIP bar and the Royal Affair Café which emits a sense of relaxation and comfort from the hustle and bustle of the busy cities. The rest house also boasts 2 banquet halls, namely Kings Ballroom and Royal Princess Ballroom, which is fully equipped with luxurious amenities, air-conditioned with lovely décor.
The rest house stands at a scenic location, overlooking Sri Lanka's most popular Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Therefore, it has become an idyllic spot for family outings and picnics, due to its romantic setting and cool climate.
The restaurant at the rest house, with its beautiful interior decor, can accommodate over 100 guests and offers delicious Western, Eastern, Chinese and spicy Sri Lanka cuisine.
The rest house is also located in close proximity to iconic landmarks such as The Kandy Tooth Relic Temple, which is 3km away. Many other temples are situated in the area and its vicinity and visitors can also access the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and the Bogambara Rugby Ground.
The rest house retains the standard of a three star property.
