I'm from the UK and I only stumbled upon spectator drags tonight and I have to say, I can't stop watching them. Such a wide range of cars and trucks, some that you'd never expect to see go up against each other. We do have run what you brung at dragstrips here in the UK, but you never see such interesting match ups. Man, I need to come to the US and watch them in person.
Your actually better off ouside the guys I saw going on the inside where going WAY to far down. About a car width away from the inside line is the groove you want to be in. If done corrctly you steer it out with as much throttle as you can without it getting to loose so that you end up closer to the wall about halfway down the track then in a gear that has your rpms up slowly start to come into the corner so by the time your at about half way threw your at the lowest point and your momentum start pushing you towards the top of the track near the wall. only a couple of these drivers knew how to run a circle track, not to mention you dont want to be shifting either, you want enough gear to take you from turn 2 to 3. The rpms and the drag from high rpms letting off the throttle is what keeps you in the corner. Its hard to explain I guess, but thats the basic idea.
@@Punk-Jw That is true at some tracks. Usually ones with a consistent radios turns and equal banking. There called handling tracks. horse power tracks are different its basically drag race down the straight brake hard (Glowing rotors) And dive for the bottom first. Altamont speedway in Ca was a track like your describing about a car width from the bottom was the fast line. Ukia and Carson city were drag race tracks HP and brakes. stockton 99 you would drag race down the straight brake hard aiming at the center of the outer wall between turn 3 and 4 then rotate last second and come back down the hill into the front straight. one and two are more of a standard shape like the one in the video. Remember these are not set up race cars on race tires there probably better off staying away from the wall so when they spin there is more space to avoid backing into the wall and wrecking there street car.

all wheel drive on a one to two lap short track race will usually win every time. once they launch and get out front it's almost impossible to catch and pass them
@@relco9825 big deal, that's an exception not the the rule. If you put two comparable cars and drivers together and one has AWD, the AWD car will smoke him every time.
@@therobert9521 for sure it's an advantage, all other things being equal. But since these are pretty much all modified, I'd guess the 2wd cars have stickier tires and other things to help with traction (or attempt to compensate with greater hp for the straights)
@@nthgth there's no amount of modification that can overcome a RWD car to a AWD car short of throwing slicks on it when they start from a dead stop in a one or two lap race. If the AWD car is any good at all, he'll have a 5 car advantage before the RWD car can get going.
@@therobert9521 What are u talking about, there is plenty of good RWD cars that would launch at cloesly the same speed these AWD did it in. + RWD are faster on the strip for a reason. Maybe 2 car advantage at best worst 3 and a half unless the RWD is running on stock tires from the 80's. + who even runs with 300whp+ on shit tires.
Good racing, better when I was younger, guys had the balls to drive them faster and harder, i watched a 1978 Z28 called Caveman wreck in turn 4 and hit the opening to pits, he slammed that wall big time. The reverse races are fun also, then Figure 8's are the best. I used to go threw the 1970's and1980's then my dad died when I was 16. Only went back once, a FRIEND entered the race then demolition derby. He got $20 for his car from some guy. He took his plates off. That's was in 1992 or 1993 era. I do how ever miss going their. I made a bunch of MONEY as a kid, I picked up all the cans and sold them. Best fireworks show besides in Vegas now. But just as good maybe better. We went a lot, free parking and cheap to get in.
This car is amazing man! Nice work I’m not sure if you remember, but back in 01-02 there was an eagle talon with a two tone color, black and green. That thing was nuts.

You need to carry more speed and be a smooth experienced driver to run high. But it can be done and go real fast and win with the same HP as the guy running the low line
the guy in the silver evo, might have won if he had sense to back off on the throttle entering the turn, instead of just plowing the front end through the corner. I love these videos. REAL STREET CARS. I wish they had something like this here
It sucks that they don't do inside and outside. Measured it on Google earth, the inside car will only travel about .25 miles, the outside car will travel .27-.29 miles, and have to deal with more force from the larger turns. All in all, there's about a 30m-60m (100ft-200ft) difference between the inside and outside cars when the race is over. The outside car would have to be considerably stronger than the inside lane car just to break even. Great video nonetheless, thanks for uploading it mate

Guy in the final red car is the only guy out there that knows you run and outside inside outside on the corner, making the radius as large as possible. Only driver out there who looked like he really knew what the hell he was doing. To bad the little box van, or whatever the hell that was, didn't get to run final. For holding an inside line, he was getting around the turns pretty consistently, too.

Well yeah when you put it up against cars with power adders like turbos sure. And something tells me the turbos out there are NOT running factory boost levels. But heck let me throw a turbo on a ‘insert any car here’ and I will run 25-30lbs of boost and see if I win against n/a cars.
Cause Mustangs are geared for straight track not this they will put it in the wall. Also notice it's the Older 70s Camaros winning its cause they was build for GRANDAM racing. My brother drives daily Fords but racing's oval track his 76 Camaro.

It’s because there were no unprotected bystanders or opposing lines of traffic to confuse them. Typically the impact order is Spin tires, curb, grass, people. Or Spin tires, curb, median, oncoming cars at red light. I have a Ford and a Chevy. I haven’t hit anything in the Chevy yet.

Nope the inside lane is not always faster on an oval track. you can maintain more speed on the outside with the right driver and car. its not that simple there are many factors involved
Watch rockford speedways spectator drags the outside has the advantage it has more of a bank in the turns so they can run faster on the top and who said you have to stay in your lane you get ahead drop it down to the bottom and a way you go
Wow, What a field of cars & some really cool racing going on. These guys with those old school muscle cars of the 60's & 70's really rock but they don't got not hp for the NOS.
I know this is an old video, but you should consider doing the videos from this side more often. We still get great sound for the launches and get some great sounds on the back stretch, too.

Eh, they were the smarter choice for circuit racing. If it were 1/4 mile drag racing, you'd have seen more Novas and Camaros in the finals. Except that little Expo, there's a few videos of him around, he's able to get consistent 11-second quarter mile ETs.

True, and honestly there were only a couple of drivers who could even drive worth a damn. You probably noticed 90% of them overcooked it in turn one.
They should have the start line a little farther back to give the outside car time to slide into the groove.

Anyone who got on the inside lane had a very big advantage on top of that 90% of the people that raced couldn’t line up a car correctly
The cars that won, they pointed towards the corner on a angle now, shoot them down hill of track if you noticed that also.

The Summit is unmatched when it comes to launching, but it is still a top heavy minivan on street tires, so it is no match against the 3000GT.

Eh, they were the smarter choice for circuit racing. If it were 1/4 mile drag racing, you'd have seen more Novas and Camaros in the finals. Except that little Expo, there's a few videos of him around, he's able to get consistent 11-second quarter mile ETs.
