Not me. I was flat broke back in the 90s paying a mortgage and working for the biggest asshole on the planet. Ok second biggest i forgot about trump and how shitty he was to work for.
Oddly enough here in the UK, I've had almost no trouble with my DHR1000UX. When I first got it, having been stored for a long time, the deck needed a little lubrication to get the lacing working reliably. Sometimes the lower drawer will stick in/out a bit. Other than that, it's been a gem. I don't think this model does E-E digitisation to Firewire, or mine doesn't seem to anyway.
Everything works except the analog output. I would like to get it working however it isn't the most important feature and with the density of that board it could get damaged changing the caps out and render the machine non functional. That's where I am at now. Do I want to risk breaking something and having a totally non functional machine or just use the firewire output, as that is really the only output I would ever use to archive. I can go direct into my computer and do a direct capture no loss, so having the analog output working might look fine just to play a tape but would never use it. If the firewire didn't work then I would be already in there changing parts.
Its ugly and it could be on the digital board. I'm assuming that its bad caps however E-E from tuner and and osd work perfectly. Just playback. So it could be the digital board which is the shielded board on top. A schematic would help immensely. So it may just be left as it is for risk of doing damage to a perfectly working machine as far as the firewire output goes. I think I will leave it alone as long as the digital port works.
It could serve multiple purposes. Clean the tape, dissipate static charge on tape. Stop vibrations. I think it is probably a damper to stop any vibration or oscillation of the tape that could occur based on the distance between thev2 guides. Thats a long way to go unsupported and with the heads wracking against the tape at 18,000 times a minute, 300 times a second that could cause a 300 hz flutter on the tape. This could disrupt the running of the tape. It touches on play and record only and is retracted in other modes.
I'm pretty sure that on the end of that arm is a sapphire block to burnish the tape on its way past. My Betacam and DVCAM machines have a similar arrangement.
Boy I was a youngster at the year you mentioned! I would love to go back to the early nineties!

I also remember when my school broke my camera some how long story why they had it but they broke my fire wire port on my camera
I still have my Sony hdv and panasonic sd deck I try and run them once a month and have you ever seen nec oled tvs?
Didn't know nec made oled.
@@12voltvids they do multi sync i think its called
The lid of the tape insertion slot on the front was often broken and wouldn't open. Plastic gears repaired the cracks.😅
Have to be real gentle with these plastic mechanisms
I have a sony Watchman tv that needs some new surfacemount capactors !
I use Mouser and Digikey !
Such a nice nighmare ! Cheers
Tell me about it
That is a lot of work. Maybe do a little bit at a time?

I THINK THAT LITTLE ARM IS TAPE CLEANER
HE'S NOT DEAF!
stop using CAPSLOCK!
thank you...
