MTA NYC Subway: On Board R160B Siemens (Q) Train from 49th Street to Canal Street

- This is a ride on an R160B (Q) train with Siemens SITRAC propulsion from 49th to Canal. There are also some other R160s on the (N) and (Q) and perhaps some R46s on the (R) in the video.

There were no W trains in 2011
I like to keep this video on loop while working. There's a strange comfort to the ambiance of the subway. Plus this video runs through familiar stations.

+Citro Brothers Ok cool! The only thing I hate about the N/Q/R is that after 34 st Herald Square on the Uptown tracks everything is slow cause the Q merges over and it stops at 49 St.
+Fuseguy I I think the Q should skip 49 street all times unlike just on weekends there always some not in service in the middle of 49 street
+Citro Brothers Yeah 49 St should only be served by the N/R trains and the Q should always run express to 57 St - 7 av and the Q should run express in Astoria too from Astoria Blvd to Queensboro Plaza

New York City subway = delays, delays, delays, construction, construction, construction. They got some nice trains like the R142As and R188s but the reliability of the system in general is miles behind world class institutions like the London Underground.
The reason for construction happening most times is because the system runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, compared to other subway systems shutting down overnight for repairs. The reason for delays is because people tend to hold the doors open, thus keeping the train behind to wait.
If it were world class like the London Underground, it would look completely different from they way we see it, I guarantee you pal.

Siemens R160? Weren't they made by Kawasaki and Alstom?
Mike Baker the propulsion was from Siemens on the R160B2. The manufacturer for the train itself for the R160A is by Alstom and the R160B by Kawasaki.
I remember back in the past when q trains was express and goes with n train Astoria. and now q trains doesn't go to astoria anymore. it was replace with w trains now.

The 6 train should stop at Canal Street on the Platform that the A Train Stops on.
It means Kawasaki made R160B with Siemens propulsion system. Most of R160s have Alstom Onix propulsion system which makes repeating sounds(_-`-`-``)
I don't know why NYC Subway is still making trains with that old fashioned design. Any 40-year-old train from London, Paris or Berlin subways looks newer than that factory-looking trains. No matter they have LED indicators or whatever, they still look very old. Just take a look at any video of these subways I mentioned.
+Miguel Angel Tomé MTA is the busiest rapid transit system in the Western World- it carries far more passengers than London, Paris, or Berlin. These trains are made to be workhorses that carry millions of people every day, not look modern or fancy. The system has been running since 1904- I think they know what they're doing. They also have to keep new trains compatible with the infrastructure already in place.
+Nate N I completely agree that the system is made to carry people, however, it is by no means a bad thing to improve the aesthetics and ergo the ride experience. It's like saying that buildings have no other use other than keeping people from the outside, if looking modern, or fancy, doesn't factor into building design, ultimately, that's just rubbish isn't it? London Underground has been in place since 1863, it's tunnels are tiny, incredibly old and just outright unsuitable for the 1.3billion commuters which the system transports round every day, but London invests a lot of money into improving the system with newer trains with innovative technology to increase the capacity and reliability of the system. Also, there is no way that the subway only transports commuters, no doubt, you're gonna have a high proportion of tourists and just people going out on that train, I'm sure better looking and modern trains can't do any harm to the impression it gives to people of New York.

What's the difference between Local and Express?
Express skips stops and local make every single stop
Express trains stop at major stations (ex. 14th Street - Union Square, Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall on the Lexington Avenue Line) and Local Trains stop at every station like 33 street.
Express means it passes and skips stops and Local it makes every single stop
Local means its stops at small stations the Express only stops at big stations
Y was there a OOS R160 on my express track at 49 Street
