  • While I already have a leveling guide which showcases the fastest 1-70 route in Dragonflight, parts of it require Chromie Time, which is unavailable for new players. Because of this, many viewers have asked me to create a Fresh WoW Account and figure out the fastest way to level when you don't have access to Chromie Time. Although there is considerable overlap with my standard route, this fresh account path will include a few new zones and slightly alter the order in which you level through each area.
    I plan on using this fresh account to do further leveling testing in the future, so if there's something you'd like to see me try, let me know! I currently only plan on doing one more full run for Alliance, but I'm open to doing additional testing/videos if there's enough interest.
    If you're looking to level up your characters as quickly as possible, you can find my written Leveling Guide over at my website, harldan.com.

    Update (7/26/23): As of Patch 10.1.5, all players have access to Chromie Time, even if you're leveling your very first character. This means the route I used in this video is no longer relevant. If you have not done so already, I'd recommend watching my 1-60 Leveling Guide, which you can find here: ruclips.net/video/uLXS2nupv2s/видео.html
    (Old Pinned Comment) If you plan on using the route in this video for leveling, keep in mind that "Fresh WoW Account" in this case is referring ONLY to the first character you will ever level. The moment one of your characters reaches level 60 you will unlock Chromie Time, and you'll then be able to use my standard route. Even if you're missing heirlooms/consumables/buffs etc, you should still follow my standard route. None of that significantly alters the final time or routing, lack of Chromie Time is the only reason I'm working on this route.

    Ok, lemme warn you about your insanely ambitious add-on. I have a degree in game development, so I do this out of love. Tough, dream crushing love

    • @Harldan1
      @Harldan1  Год назад

      All fair points, so I want to address a few of them.
      - For starters, I also graduated college in game design and computer science, so trust me, I'm well aware that the current scope of my project is ambitious and will likely need to be trimmed. These are my current plans, but as I begin development I'm sure I'll run into things that need to be trimmed.
      - I'm well aware that some of this stuff will be difficult/impossible to do with an addon. I actually do have friends who have developed add-ons and I've asked them about this. A few of my early ideas they said would be impossible, so I scrapped it. A lot of the current ideas they said should be possible and there are multiple add-ons currently using them. (I.e. mob tracking is apparently very simple and is used by a ton of add-ons, so that shouldn't be a concern)
      - That leads to another point, namely the "guild" thing, which I think you misunderstood a bit. I never meant to say that you NEED to join a guild to complete the challenge, or that you would have other people moderating it for you. This is designed to be done solo, but the initial idea that I discussed would require some oversight on the part of the player. Think of it as playing D&D with yourself, in a sense.
      When I referred to a "guild bank", I meant your own personal bank guild that you can use as storage. This is something that I do myself for speedleveling items, as it helps me keep them all organized in one place. The initial idea would be to store all possible drops in this bank, and then when the add-on rewards it, the player gives themself that item from the bank. Could they cheat? Absolutely, but this is meant to be a fun way to challenge yourself personally while leveling, not a competition. If someone ignores the game and grabs whatever they want, they may as well just be leveling a normal character, so who cares?
      - That being said, your points about all of the prep work and player oversight required are something I've spent a lot of time thinking about, because I understand it's a bit of an investment just to play a special mode. My current solution is to offer two game modes, one with full access to potential rewards with the understanding that you'll need to put in a bit of leg work ahead of time to prepare all of the items. I could even have a settings page where someone manually unchecks items they can't/don't want to farm, which would make it so those items don't appear as potential rewards. Once again, this opens the door for someone unchecking all of the "bad" items just to improve their drop rates, and once again if they want to do that just to make themselves feel better about winning an addon mini game, oh well.
      The other game mode in this solution would be a streamlined version that contains minimal use of items outside of things like heirlooms, which you can create just by opening your collection. This would take out the need to interact with a mobile guild bank/mailbox to obtain new items, which would go a long way towards making the mode approachable. A mode like this would obviously need to have modified drop rates and item effects to account for the smaller pool, but it may end up being a better option.
      - Finally, the only point I really don't agree with is your take regarding travel and zones. As my speedruns have shown, travel around the world is NOT that hard, and in the absolute worst case it will take you 5-10 minutes of portal hopping and running. If someone is so impatient about reaching a certain zone that they're unwilling to spend 5 minutes jumping on a flight path, this mode isn't designed for them. I've done efficient speedruns for years now, and it gets boring. That's the entire reason why I'm working on this in the first place. Is it going to be slower than leveling normally? Absolutely, but I think it will be far more fun and challenging. If I'm offered the Badlands as one of my zones, and it gives good rewards, I'm still going to pick it even though it's one of the most isolated leveling zones in the game (for Horde, atleast). I have no problem throwing myself on a flight path and AFKing to make coffee for a bit.

    • @revengedealer
      @revengedealer Год назад +1

      @@Harldan1 Oh god dammit! RUclips ate my original response comment! Ugh...well, take 2.
      You are indeed a game designer. You have this thing very well thought out and are ready for any necessary changes. Excellent job.
      My only concern still revolves around tangible item rewards. I love the multiple game modes and accessibility you're offering, but I am concerned that needed prep work of any kind will turn people off. Especially toward people that may not have the means to prep. I, for example, do not have bank alts and maybe have 150k gold between all 13 of my characters. The heirloom rewards are fine, but an XP potion or gear or something like that isn't something I want to bother with. I'm sure it's not a bank breaker, but I'm a cheap prick who wants to save my gold for important stuff. I'm sure plenty of people wont mind, but you gotta think of the people that will. Funnily enough, a guild would be great. People will happily join a guild in WoW anyway, it is a social game after all. So having a guild bank full of goblin gliders and xp pots and whatever would work well. But for a solo person, you might have to rethink rewards.
      Alternatively, you can lean this entirely toward challenge mode and the only reward is the satisfaction of completion. Similar to the hardcore challenge in classic. It doesn't sound like you want to do that though. I wish I could help by making an actual suggestion, but I'm drawing a blank. I love the notion of rewards, but find it very difficult to implement. Your alternative game mode that minimizes/eliminates prep may turn into your primary. But time will tell.
      As for the flight path thing...yeah, that's a person bias XD I come from SWTOR, which has an amazing fast travel system. WoW's travel systems are awful. I ironically main Mage which is wonderful, but playing any other class shows how outdated their systems are. I'm so used to being able to teleport everywhere that flying for 5 minutes drives me up the wall. But yeah, it's a non-factor for a grand majority of WoW players.
      Overall, you have a great, well thought out, idea. When you start play testing (if you haven't already), be sure to get everyone from the hardcore, to the filthy casual, to everyone in between. Unless you plan on narrowing your audience of course. Challenge runners will eat this up no doubt. I wish you good luck and keep on keeping on. Before you know it, WoW-tubers far and wide will be making videos saying, "So there's this new add-on that makes retail leveling fun again..."

    • @Harldan1
      @Harldan1  Год назад

      @@revengedealer Appreciate the feedback once again. I do agree that the way rewards are handed out by the game needs some adjustment, it's the main thing I'm still brainstorming. The mode I mentioned would have a heavy emphasis on "low budget", since as you mentioned some people won't want to do prep work or invest gold. The idea would be to have one "full" mode with an expanded reward pool, and one "minimalist" mode that only has basic stuff such as heirlooms or goblin gliders. I could also have a setting to ONLY play with randomized talents/zones for people who aren't interested in the mini-game aspect whatsoever.
      That said, to go a bit into your other point, this is 100% directed towards the "satisfaction of overcoming a challenge" type thing. In this video I discussed 90% of my plans for the addon, but I have NOT discussed what I have planned for the very end at levels 55-60. That part of the challenge will be brutally hard. The reason I have the rewards implemented this way is because they're borderline mandatory for the final 5 levels of this challenge run to be possible. The whole idea of the run will be to plan out your route and gain as much power as you possibly can to prepare yourself for the "final boss" at level 60.
      As such, the trimmed down version of the addon with only heirlooms likely wouldn't include this final boss at all, simply because I don't believe it would be (reasonably) possible. Once the full vision for the run is clear, and people fully understand why I have the rewards structured this way, I have a feeling they'll be willing to put in the work to get the preparation done. And if not, there will still be the basic version (or they could just level without the add-on).

    • @revengedealer
      @revengedealer Год назад +1

      @@Harldan1 Ahhh, ok. I like it. I do love the multiple modes making it a very accessible run. I especially love the fully randomized talent mode. That would certainly be appealing to many people. Challenge runner especially would love to figure out how to use the lesser talents to their fullest. I wonder if you could add a difficulty level to that. Fully randomized talents hard mode = doing crazy bosses with possibly sub optimal talents. It'd be like Dark Souls for people. That would certainly require playtesting like no tomorrow.
      The route planning is also great and having those final 5 levels be insanely hard seems like a mixture of the hardcore challenge and general classic leveling. A so close yet so far situation, making victory all the more sweeter. Something like this feels like it could actually draw classic hardcore players to it. Maybe you should just add a hardcore mode. People seem to love the threat of perma-death.
      But yeah, keep at it. This can seriously be a fantastic addition to World of Warcraft.

I prefer to tackle subjects that require more research and practice, since it's not as oversaturated and I find it more fun to create the content. I've received a lot of suggestions from players on "Fresh Account Videos", going over basic things that everyone needs to do at some point. That said, a lot of these topics are either really boring to research, would appeal to an extremely niche audience of players, or both. Currently the only topics I'm considering making are "How to Unlock Allied Races" and "How to Obtain Every Heirloom", since I'd imagine a large amount of existing or returning players could still benefit from that in addition to brand new players.

      I've done runs like that in the past, I'm sure you could find a few in the "WoW Speedruns" playlist. The only consumable that somewhat matters is Draught of Ten Lands (and ofc DMF stuff), but it doesn't make a massive difference. Without those two buffs your time will probably be ~1 hour slower at the most.
      I've done runs with just Draught of Ten Lands, a handful of goblin gliders/gunshoes, and gold for Master Riding, and my time was only a few hours behind my world record runs. (I also don't really count Master Riding in the leveling cost, since 99% of players are going to buy that anyways when they reach max level.) It's also important to understand that when I'm doing my speedruns I try to be laser focused for the entire run and make sure I'm being extremely efficient with everything I do. That ends up being really stressful so I tend to play a bit slower and more relaxed when I'm doing non-WR runs, and that inherently loses a bit of time.

      I’m the opposite. 16 years of WoW and I think I know the name of one character “Sylvanus” (sic)?
      I’ve skipped every cut scene for most of those sixteen years. The story is the one I make up in my head. I gave up with the in game lore after about a day back in 2007. .Thought it was childish nonsense. Love the gameplay and using my imagination to motivate.

      They just need to make the whole game scale with your level. Meaning, old areas should be max level. Atleast the dungeons and raids. Would give us way more content to play

    • @yaboityler2617
      @yaboityler2617 6 месяцев назад +2

      @michaelbarber3125 I kind of agree. But the scaling shouldn't be so streamlined to your exact level. More lime a level range. Like if you are 10-20, you can find those level creeps and quests in the zone.
      The fact that it's completely scaled to your level makes it annoying because you never feel any stronger. Everything levels up along side you.

      @yaboityler2617 6 месяцев назад +3

      @PaulRoneClarke I'm not talking about the story. I'm talking about exploring. 99% of people are in one zone or hub. 100% of people are in the same raid. Give me options to go where I want and let me keep the cool stuff I get. That's all I'm asking.
      Also, 14 max level characters is pretty easy since it takes about 12 hours to reach max level. Meaning a new player will see the World of Warcraft for 13 hours and see the New Zone of Warcraft for thousands.

    Your challenge run idea sounds a lot like an idea I had back in Wrath when the game was feeling really stale, and probably for a lot of the same reasons, there was a fair bit of neglect and rot that the game was experience that to Blizzard's credit they actually tried to address in Cataclysm. Ironically one of the plans that I had was a pet battling system, because that's something that could be done essentially completely with addons.
    This comes up because you love the game and the game sucks. I like the game, I even see where they're going with the new M+ affixes and I don't hate them. I also see why they're going to be hated by the community. The problem with WoW is decay. They work on the tiny piece of it that is active, and let the rest rot. Now that even 10.0.7 is out, the stuff from the 10.0 release is already irrelevant. You have world quests at 70 for what exactly? Why do world quests instead of the forbidden reach where you will get loot that dwarfs anything from the first half of the season. What about world bosses? What about rares? They are all irrelevant now. What about Normal and Heroic dungeons?
    Then you go to the new player experience. This gets touched only occasionally, never completely, and then ignored for years. The current campaign has you doing BfA. In 9.x it had you doing BfA. It's not beed updated since shadowlands and before that it was worse.
    What your concept is, is "how can we make this collection of assets and systems that is SO CLOSE to actually being a game into an actual game that is fun to play?" there's hours of material from 1-60. But it's not a game, at the most it's a chore. It's certainly not teaching you anything. It's not fun. It's not explaining the setting and the story of the world. It's just kind of there because it was there before and Blizzard is working on different things now. Even the exile's reach final dungeon had a giant graphical glitch on the floor, which was present in my game as well, when the dragon does the big ability.
    All of the things that you can do for the leveling experience, heirlooms, skips, darkmoon faire, they're all just to make it go by faster. Heirlooms for example even remove reward systems built into the game. But they're useful because the builtin reward systems suck because you level too fast for quest rewards and drops to keep up with you.

    • @Harldan1
      @Harldan1  Год назад

      Very true. The point you mentioned about new patches invalidating old content is something which absolutely infuriates me and I was just talking to my guildies about it the other day. So many MMOs have figured out a solution to that problem, and WoW hasn't. While Blizzard is spinning their wheels shoveling out content we'll never touch again, FFXIV and GW2 are slowly adding permanent content to their game that improves the entire experience. The gap gets wider every patch, and soon WoW simply won't be able to compete.

    I'm like 56 right now, so that's a bit late of a find, but should be interesting. Also interesting to learn that it's apparently a really bad leveling spec. I was wondering if me struggling to AoE stuff is a skill issue.
    I'm only 30 minutes in so I don't know if you talked about it, but as a new player I'm trying to unlock the 3 allied races in BfA while leveling and I think that would be a fairly common goal for someone in my possition.
    And I think I've done way too many quests since I'm only half way through the blood troll zone questline at this level, so looks like I'm going to waste time doing a lot of those quests at 60. I'm actually planning to do the same thing (unlock 3 allied races) on Alliance side for my next character - are there any good resources so I can limit myself to only needed quests?
