You're perfectly right The science of recording is incredible but The quality of the guitar "djenty" "groovy" of J.Browne makes the work much much more easier !!!!
dont know if anyone cares but if you are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown xD
When you said off axis did you mean off center when talking about the position of a mic beeing in axis but not pointing to the center of the cone or the speaker? I always listen to the sound, no matter if I can see through the mesh or the cage. Cheers 🤘🏻♥️🍀
What is your approach to panning when having 2 guitar players playing the rhythm tracks? In this scenario I can see having 1 amp with 2 mics on each left and right, but what about a 2 amp 1 mic set up? With my latest recordings I play a Marshall jcm 900 and my other guitar player plays a 5150. I blended the 5150 and 900 on both sides rather than looking at it as a proper band where you would hear the 5150 on your left and the Marshall on your right.
So, you essentially reamped the same waveform to the left and right side. Wouldn’t that be similar to just recording it once then copying it to the other side? If so, then how do you get them to sound like 2 separate guitar performances and not just way louder?
fun trick though, if a client sends you mono guitar and DIs you CAN reamp it L/R with aggressively different eq and amp settings... It'll still sound like shit but at least it'll be different lol. if it's not tech metal you could probably do the beatles offset thing
The pedals he normally uses are an EQ to cut away some 100Hz and 200Hz and also some sort of tubescreamer style OD set with no gain and high/full level. Pretty standard metal set-up.
Came for the lesson, stayed because of the tasty riffs . John is a groove machine.

@Hassan Yael Definitely, I've been using InstaFlixxer for years myself :D
Have both those mics! Sounds so good! 😍😍
One trick i like alot on my guitars is a SM57 pared with a AT650, (another 100$ Audio Technica mic) it really compliments the SM57 well
That Fellsilent tee. Damn.
Wish I knew where to get one!
Is there a whole course of john Browne recording process? What is it called? Loved this video
That was a sick song yo
guitars that sit really well in a mix can sometimes sound garbage to jam through apparently
Yup, very true
honestly usually how it goes
Real engineering folks!
So helpful!! Thanks Bro!

Nope, off axis is that the mic is not facing the cloth, it's perpendicular to the cab, see the fredman technique, but jon is putting the mic in 30°
Have you ever tried miking a guitar in a vocal isolation booth? I’m thinking of purchasing one, but I don’t want it to sound boxy like the iso boxes.

What is this song? This sounds epic

Each side is a different performance, otherwise as you said it would just be louder.
URM Academy gotcha, thank you for clarifying. That makes sense haha. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that...
Having the same thing on each side is called mono... :p

very nice
Couldn't find the video showing in phase and out of phase examples. Any help commentors?
This is a clip from a course that’s several hours long- he covers that in a different section of the course.
why can't you record them directly into your daw?
24oz pinesolcan because amp sims sound like butt
@@joshuawhitley5819 not anymore, there are tons of amp sims that sound exactly like the real deal, but the best are still pricey
Killer riffs! What song is this? By whom?
It's by John's band Monument
Monuments - The Alchemist
you never talked about the pedals you said in the beginning.
