@@buzzardsinuses4780 Do not get me wrong, Chad;s tenure is some of the best songwriting the band ever saw. Scott just sounds more... honest? You ever heard him in other bands? He kicks ass
Rick Bannan when Chad sings Scott’s songs, something’s missing from it. It still sounds good though. You might be onto something with that. But I don’t think I can hear Scott singing Original Me, Long Distance, or Fairweather Friend. Different vibes I guess.
Scott's era was always my favorite. Those couple of albums had a fair number of duds, but the high points were impossibly good... I suppose you could say the same thing about every Descendents/ALL album other than Milo Goes to College, though, to be fair. Songs like "Scary Sad", "Simple Things", "Mary", "She's My Ex", "Fool"... they're utterly impeachable, even to this day. Helped get me through some extremely tough times in my early twenties. "Mary", in particular, still gives me goosebumps every time I listen. I know this was a few years ago now, but it's great to see these guys are still playing and still loving every second of it. The world needs the music of Bill, Karl, Stephen, Scott, Milo, Dave, and Chad more than ever.
For my tastes vocally it was ALLways the Scott years. Being born in 1972 I’ve seen a lot of great songwriters and singers come and go, but my top three for their word-age and melodic skills and play on words and use of creative verbi-age is 1. Scott Reynolds, 2. Greg Graffin, 3. Dicky Barrett… Raw awesome talent and style from those guys.
I discovered All in 1990 around Allroy’s Revenge , which quickly lead me down the Descendents/All rabbit hole. The debate was going on back then (I.e, who’s the best singer Milo, Dave, or Scott)? Of course Chad wouldn’t enter the debate for a few years. I actually saw All do one of their first shows with Chad in early November of 93, and he was literally still green but did a great job that night at the Night Awl in Pensacola, Fl. Dave’s band Down by Law was one of the openers, and he sang a few with All that night. Anyway at the time and for years Scott was my favorite, and in some ways still is. I love that era. Percolator is just punk rock perfection, and Mary? Come on! Freaking iconic. But now in 2024 it’s like asking me which version of the Beatles was the best, to which I’d reply, “all of them” Chad is a phenomenal singer and brought his own contributions and style that fit the band perfectly at the time. Over the past 30 years Milo has become a better singer than he was in the early days. We saw the Descendents in March of this year, and Milo killed it. All are great, and we should All strive for All. All are the Descendents of greatness, and the two are one in All.
I remember when these guys opened the Blasting Room. I had just moved to Ft. Collins, and I managed to link up with them and go over there. It was right when Descendants were just about to tour for Everything Sucks. As a longtime Decendant's/ALL fan I was gobsmacked. These dudes are the best!
ALL is ALL with Scott. He had such a cool voice. He does not seam to be able to sing it like he used to. When did he get buff? Super cool to see them together again. Thanks for posting.
It seemed like it was as much that he had a hard time hearing himself. On the 'quieter' songs even late in the set, he was hitting the notes. That plus probably not having to belt out those songs (which are super hard to sing) for so long probably didn't help. But I agree- ALL is ALL with Scott. He's such a great singer.
I guess I am in the minority. I was the hugest Descendents fan. I only played the Descendents in my car. I saw the Descendents a few times in the 1980s. All came and I adjusted to Dave Smalley. I then travelled to see All in Phoenix (I live in Orange County, CA) with Scott singing and I was so turned off I missed the Chad Price (my favorite All singer) years. I didn't come back until the Descendents reformed. Milo / Chad/ Dave / Scott is my hierarchy. I missed a lot of great music because of that guy.
This is my favorite ALL line up, though either Scott has not sang much recently and his pitch control is rough, Flat on nearly everything... or he can't hear shit in his monitor mix (which is fairly unlikely at their level, plus the other 3 are playing spot on so that says their monitors are pretty well mixed). Still cool to see them together again.
Good observation. As much as I love Smalley, this lineup might be my favorite as well. I'm a huge DAG NASTY fan so I have a soft spot in my heart for Dave, but "Allroy's Revenge" was the first ALL stuff I ever heard in 1989. "Sum" is probably one of the best songs they wrote with this lineup.
he's flat on the louder songs because he can't hear himself. You can see him plug his ears before each song to hear himself first. Matching voice pitch is hella difficult when you can barely hear yourself sing
Scott will forever be my favorite
Rick Bannan as much as I really love chad, I honestly might like Scott more.

Thanks for sharing this great performance!
Agree there were definitely duds during the Scott era, but Revenge is a good album from front to back. Better than a lot of Descendents albums too.
Allroy Saves is in my top 5 albums of all time. That album is so underappreciated

How do they remember so many songs With 3/4 singers this night?? They must have a couple hundred songs they could play from!!
I'd pay good money to hear them play "Sum!"

Scott was the best signer on the records but these days Chad and Milo sound the best .IMO

I’ll take Scott “flat”,as you say , hands down anyday
he sounds fuckin great for a live performance at his age man!
I don't he think he sounds flat. Just listened to Dot and he was on point.

For me there is no better vocal than Chad Price.
Scott must've blown his eardrums out somewhere along the way.

Scott era was best. I always hated Chad's hyper-masculine vocals, made the music sound way too aggressive.
