What the fuck are 'moe songs'? You still get this style of music in some anime. It's rarer, but that's a factor of the times changing, not necessarily anime changing. New bands, more modern music, etc. Either way, there was a ton of garbage pre-2010s too, and there's plenty of great anime that don't necessarily follow whatever it is you consider 'mainstream favorite.' You just need to be watching them instead of whatever it is that's the most popular and talked about.
Really wish I watched code geass when it was originally out so I could ride the game train and get merchandise so much easier, nowadays, even though it is one of the best anime’s ever made, you can’t find much merchandise, and the film isn’t even in my country yet. Still love it though, best anime, makes me feel old
