Poppy is very busy this morning, cleaning her room and making her bed. She wanted to show grandma what a good girl she is. She is amazing and high energy. She was determined to get her bed perfect. So smart.

Obviously comes from the instinct to compact soil inside the burrows and tunnels they dig in nature, to make them more solid and less likely to cave in or turn to mud if they get wet.

For those thinking she’s banging her head, it’s just her stiff-legged jumping that it shaking the plastic pan and making her head bob a bit, but while her head may be touching the rolled blanket at times, it is not actually banging against the solid surface. Prairie dogs “stomp” like that when burrowing to pack the soil surface. She’s instinctively “nesting” with the materials she has on hand.

Me too , I wonder why she does it and what the equivalent is in the wild , ive never seen them use their nose to flatten things before.
Maybe they do it with bits of earth to create their little dens.

@@steve10 I keep watching, & she does roll it to make room, tries to use her arms to move it further, then flattens it so it CANT roll back! That's extremely intelligent. And yes, what in nature would have this in her "dna" like a beaver building a dam or a squirrel climbs a tree? Have you ever rolled out a small metal fence roll, or wallpaper, like the 3 stooges, the other end rolls back up,, poppy knows!! Possibly to make it easier to climb at the door because shes so small,, Fascinating!
