I think Brennan was mostly just gathering information on this Hilda Hilda character to bring back later in the Nightmare Forest, and instead of having Emily roll and end up succeeding because of how high her deception is, he just went straight for Hilda Hilda coming back as the consequences

Brennan has occasionally described an aikido-style of DMing of redirecting/deflecting the chaotic energy of the players rather than just stopping it. Usually, it's done to point towards a more productive result but, it can also be used to unleash a devastating counterattack of chaos at the player. This is such a masterful demonstration of that technique. Hands down, one of the best DMs.

This was the funniest moment of Brennan dressing a player down, and Emily Axford doubling down every time in response.
@@jacker2110 That's why as funny as Brennan is in this scene, it's Emily that steals the show here. She just insisted on throwing him for a loop with every response to one of his questions.
Such a great back and forth, and the rest of the players watching helplessly is icing on the cake.
My favorite element is the other players trying to help by asking if they're nearby, and Brennan completely shutting that down like, "No, Emily is going to deal with this by herself. This is what she gets." Incredible.

I love how just as Emily says "I just wanted to leave a note" EVERYONE on the table is already like "oh shit here it comes"
The smile that slowly creeps onto her face really adds a lot to that moment.

I do love this idea but I think I remember him saying he fully expected Ayda to remain an interesting and mysterious NPC that they left behind in Leviathan but the entire party loved her so much they made her a major NPC which he completely didn't expect
Even further than that, for Junior Year, he made a self insert NPC that's basically an FBI agent tasked specifically with hunting Fig down

I love how Brennen rarely says no to anyone's decisions (especially Emily's) but makes sure they have to deal with the consequences of those actions.
I feel like so much of Fantasy High, especially with Fig, is "Let me act on the first thought that comes to my head" followed up by "Oh god, what have I gotten myself into?" and this moment exemplifies that to a T.
This is one of the funniest fuck around and find out things out there.

Oh dudes, coming back to this always feels like balm for the soul.
And let's not forget that Hilda Hilda returned with a vengeance during the final episodes of the season. Sort of a lesser version of the Baron from the Baronies haunting.
My girlfriend plays very similarly to Emily, and I honestly just wish I could roll with her shenanigans as well as Brennan does with Emilys.
Edit: So the second week of January 2023 we had our second session of the year and I shit you not, my girlfriend pulled a Hilda Hilda by giving literally giving no indication whatsoever of what she was gonna do without missing a beat when asked a certain question. She's playing a Tiefling named Excellence and it's also a school setting with the principal also being a Tiefling, and her ans the principal butt heads a bit due to her character being a danger to the other students when they go out to do missions involving the school. Well, this session I don't remember why it came up, but the Principal asked what her middle name was and she just looked me dead in the eyes and said, "Excellence." And I started losing it along with three of the other party members. I asked her to clarify that her characters name was Excellence Excellence and we ran with it from there. Funny thing is, one of the other PCs has the same mom as her making them siblings, and she's saying her mom named her that, so uh, Zak Zak Dyer the Rouge Gnome has a question he needs to ask.
Best part? She doesn't even know what Dimension 20 is so she's not just copying Hilda Hilda, it's literally just a random occurrence and that makes it so much funnier.
Emily is perfect. Every time she does something crazy, she blesses the world.
And then the unexpected callback to this later toward the end of the season is amazing. 😄
