Trains at Port Jervis - 1999

  • Back in 1999, on a cold day in December (as I recall) , I took my Sony mini DV recorder and climbed into my then new Jeep Wrangler and head north to Port Jervis. By the time I arrived, it was starting to snow. I taped some of the trains at the old Erie main line and depot along with the long-abandoned Erie roundtable and service structures.
By the time I was ready to head back down into Jersey, the streets of Port Jervis were slick with snow. The Wrangler had little problem taking me over and down the the hills into Jersey and home. And the tapes I took that day have a nostalgic feel to them, due in part to the overcast and snowy day at the old Erie mainline in New York state.

I’ve seen the Comet IAs in person as a kid a few times, but I’ve never been on them. But I have been on Comet IBs (converted Arrow Is) on several occasions. Also if I am correct the MN WOH Comet IIAs/IIBs were the same as the NJT Comet IIs before they were rebuilt into Comet IIMs. The WOH MN Comet IIs were sent to the EOH with the arrival of the Comet Vs.

Nice, a detailed view of the Comet I-As. Good use of leftover Arrow Shells.

The Phoebe Snow traveled via the Lackawanna cut off, not past Port Jervis.

The "old Erie Mainline" was the route of the "Erie Limited", the "Lake Cities", the "Atlantic Express", the "Pacific Express" and a couple other trains. Only AFTER the E-L merger, did the "Phoebe Snow" run on these tracks. By then, it was no longer really the "Phoebe Snow".

They should of at least preserved two metro north comet 1a's and put them in a storage museum

Nice seeing those old cars again. Wish the Comet 1A's made it to East-of-Hudson service. BTW, "Phoebe Snow" was a Lackawanna train, not Erie.

It’s weird not seeing them using Comet Vs
