    First time I have grown onions. Wife bought a bag of sets from Wilko so I had to! I am not sure I can get my head round putting a small onion in and making it big! Anyway, 60 red onions were planted. I was really worried as everyone seems to have problem with bolting and rot and everything. I have lifted 40 now which are all drying, and 19 left in, still upright. I only had 1 bolt which is weird. Really pleased though and will be eating onions til this time next year!

  • @JimMeakim
    @JimMeakim Год назад

    Nice harvest! Your soil looks a bit compacted, and dry! That might account for the smaller onions. Try mulching them and more water.

Right thats enough to feed us all chaps Supermarket shelves will be full. :) :) When you put the onion flowers in a vars change the water every few days and the seeds will still form and be viable, We do this with our Leeks which is now just a giant patch.

    Hi Jessie. What a great harvest you got from the garden. Wonderful! Those potatoes looked so beautiful and delish, as well as the onions you got this year. YUMMY. Do you think you'll grow onion from sets again in the future?
    Your mom did a fine job getting the grass out of the pond, didn't she, and what a difference the polytunnel looks now with the mulch on the floor. My tomatoes are not as far along as yours are. We have had a particularly cold spring, so I kept holding off on planting mine seedlings outside.
    Speaking of noise, there is a noise that I hear while you're recording inside your house, that I don't hear otherwise. Are you recording on a camera or other devise?
    Thank you, again, for another video of your week. I need to get outside, and work in my garden now. Have a great week and I'll look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

    My few remaining spring onions (Lilia) from last year are now the size of small real onions, but still taste great in salads 😂. Are they really supposed to take ages to mature ?
    Don't seem to get much bird (or badger 😂) damage (just an ordinary garden), but I did watch a squirrel sit on MY fence eating one of MY ripe strawberries as I ate MY breakfast the other day - live and let live, I suppose 😂.
    My potatoes and carrots are in bags, had the first of the carrots for tea today - I will be unearthing some of the potatoes next week.
    Also, first of my outdoor tomatoes ripened this week 😁, plenty more to come (I hope).
    I particularly enjoy your videos when you collect the results of your labour's - take care 😁

    Happy Flying Ant Day! Looks like rain all next week starting Sat. Great start to the school holidays!
    We were supposed to have the school summer fair on Sat but it was cancelled due to the high winds so have rescheduled it. I am planning to sell/ donate the money from sales to the school for all my extra plants - Tomatoes, kale, basil and aloe vera's. I saw they were selling tomatoes in B&Q that size for £6.50, so hopefully they can raise some good money for them. 12 tomato plants of 4 varieties.
    If the soil contains a bit of vermiculite and perlite can they still be considered as organic plants?

      @@JessieatPlot37 Yes they get everywhere! I remember one year there were stag beetles flying everywhere but you hardly see them these days.
      We just finished the fair today! Plants went down well. Pretty chuffed with myself as someone else brought some tomatoes to the fair too but our ones were bigger and already had tomatoes on them so they seemed more popular. I think even though it was a more low key fair due to short notice, the school did ok on raising money.
