Pressure washer with 4000+ psi /4+ gpm can blast through roots, calichi, even 2500 psi concrete etc. Use a 8x8x4"tall piece of lightweight foam block near the end of the pressure washer lance to keep water and mud from blowing back at you on initial pierce. Should be able to drill a 3' hole in 30 seconds.
