I just discovered Erroll Garner about 1 month ago and I can't stop listening to him. I love reading everyone's comments. He's been called a genius, his playing and style, wonderful, sublime, out of this world, amazing and on and on. All I can say is "How"? How did he do it, and how did I not know about this amazing man? I was a teenager when he passed away, and knew nothing about jazz. But Oh My! What a treat to watch and listen to him now. I saw one comment, I believe it was a gentleman that said " I die a little everytime I hear this song". That's exactly how I feel when I hear "Laura" and one of his slow versions of "Fly Me to the Moon". I'm still watching, listening, learning and loving this amazing man.
Hear Erroll Garner...and feel happiness at once. I am too young to have heard him live, becoming interested in jazz right around the time Garner died in January 1977. He will always be my favourite jazz pianist and the one who has inspired me the most in my own amateur jazz piano playing. Such a talent, and by all accounts a lovely person too.
Without doubt Erroll garner was gifted with great musical ability he also was a gifted painter and what’s more a great chef I’m so glad that he majored on the piano
Remember that he could not vote at the time of this performance. I would have wanted to interview and talk with the audience people - in addition to Errol himself - for I suspect that they had never seen or heard anything like this artistry before. This artistry was pure genius for all accounts. He performed for a small audience at my undergraduate college last century and I was in the audience. Never-ending embellishments made the improvisation so good. It does not get any better than this.
Garner has no equal. A superb composer as well as the most original and instantly recognizable sound. Gorgeous lush ballads and hair-raising lightning improvisations. Who can touch him?
You have to ask yourself -What is This Man Thinking ,what's inside ,goin on in There..I ,can say this; I ,feel He is and was and all Encompassing Miracle ..We should hear more on Hin and His Life .....
I missed him too. I can't remember that he was in Oslo. Not yet watched 100 times, but it for sure will happen some time in the future. I will never get tired of EG's music - its for ever.
I must have watched this clip over a hundred times and I am still in amazement at the great skill, joy and style of Erroll Graner's playing, it's simply awsome. I must say that I am really very sorry to have missed out on the opportunity of seeing him perform live.
Un Swingin maravilloso ..no soy de la època de este extraordinario Errol Garner , pero adoro el Jazz tradicional el antiguo el que enamora con su talento y versatilidad...una delicia para mis oidos.
He is playing Misty in key of A-flat, not regular E-flat (!?) Another thing: at 4:03 he (and the bass tracking him) seems to start moving through the bridge harmonic changes twice faster, than corrects himself? Anybody- comments? - Misty's form always was controversial - does anybody have any credible info that Misty's form was originally asimetrical ( as implied by his bassist in James Doran's book)?
