sure is mate, im a electrician and came out of my apprenticeship last year. I would highly recommend getting a trade and a set of skills. you will be sorted for life.
It's a very good choice. I've been an Ironworker for 15 years now. Best decision I've ever made. Great pay, excellent benefits and a fairly decent retirement.
They need to give these opportunities to people over 30. I know loads of people who'd love to have a career change but simply can't as college won't take you on until you get a company to give you an apprenticeship and companies don't want to hand out apprenticeship to adults as government don't fund it.
There are organisations out there that offer courses for over 25s. I am 29 and 6 months ago started a mechanics course through an advert at my local job centre. I now Volunteer with a view to being employed as a teaching assistant in the very mechanics class I started going to a few months earlier. (I do have previous mechanics experience, and blitzed through the course I was on hence the offer to employ me). The opportunities are out there, they just aren't as widespread or as well advertised due to the somewhat understandable concentration on the youth.
Fabulous working the renovation of a Turkish Bath (its fabulous to see people getting in solved in bringing back to life old history) - Very interesting - and I know how to use most if not all of the equipment used and often thought about moving into construction - but to wanna be cabinet makers (think about the veneered mdf revolting tuff).... unless you're a furniture designer / maker and using gorgeous solid Oak, Ash and Elm etc and that involves having finance
I'll be honest I grew up in North East and I was the only one out of my mates to work like calum good on him he will have his business soon I think hope he can only employ UK people as many take the option to get foreigners to work for them as cheaper
Reading, writing and arithmetic is virtually the only knowledge I retained from my education. The only reason I retained it is through daily repetition. I'd argue that most of the education provided to children has little or no practical application for the vast majority of school leavers. I can't help but think it's a wasted opportunity.
3 years preschool 6 years elementary schhol 3 years middle School 3 years high school 15 years of basic elementary education.... at the end the kids know nothing about nothing, how about teaching them skills and the tools to be successful in life, the real reason for having the education system we have right now is money, schools are big money makers that give very little to the society in return, instead we get kids with poor leadership skills , we get kids that only know that they have to work to serve the rich people, systematic slavery at a global scale, made in a way that will keep the masses under control.
I agree. I’ve only just started learning about how life works now I’m in my 3rd year of university. Slightly late considering I’m now 21 and feel my past 15 years of education was a waste in some respects
@@olivermarsbarr mate I'm 24 and have a business and management degree and still can't even get a office administrator job because I'm not experienced enough..... fucking wasted my youth being uneducated by the system, a trade or skill is the way to go
The issue you have is wages, wages for a skilled person are pathetic. You can earn nearly as much at Tesco stacking shelves. No brain needed. You ask children today what they want to be and it famous, a you tube star etc. They see individuals who pretend to be rich and that’s what they want.
We have a shortage of skilled labor in the USA..... Main reason... People want a high skill labor, but don't want to.pay a high wages....in most cases it's just above minimum wage......it's not my job to stay poor so you can have a cheep bathroom remodel .......
Maybe i should move to britan, i am a 3rd year millwright, been out of work in Canada for two years, probably would have shot myself by now if I didn't have kids...
I’m 17 I live in Southampton, I wanted to be a plasterer or even bricklayer buh my teachers convinced me to become a chef instead. Wonder why we have a skill shortage
A 19 yo colleague of mine got an apprenticeship with the prospect of becoming a site foreman and supervisor for a massive construction company specialised in new housing estates, and after 2-3 months he left them that he won't give his name for the shit that what they're are building. If you want to retain good and enthusiast youngsters who will move the country forward, the construction industry must improve the quality of their "products". Yes, he showed us pictures...
That's why all trades are dead becuase of blokes like him making comment like I have him working for me everyday he grafts wonder who gets paid the most the trades man them selves from UK created this so called skill gap everyone I know a chippy painter ect all in factorys because they would rather be used that way than the other way to many greedy scum bags
Not sure why they are taught how to do things wrong! The tile work is horrendous and will fail very soon. The parquet floor work is another disaster in the making.
Guy Martin seems like the sort of bloke who you would have as a friend for life. Genuine solid northern lad.
what a genuine and great human being this guy martin is.
Guy is a man no matter what he does, still A man!
I love how he just falls out of bed goes to work with bed hair 😂
Keep at it Callum, you’ll go far with that attitude.
I can’t stop watching these Guy Martin videos! They are definitely my new favorite. He seems like such a down to earth good person.

I’d love to see Guy Martin on hot ones. Sean Evans make it happen.
UK needs more of this, giving the forgotten a chance.
Guy Martin is a real life superhero.
Getting into the trades is a good thing to do, I’m 15 and thinking of being a kitchen fitter good pay and it’s fun!

Kid "I was taking drugs"
Guy Immediately "What sorta drugs was ya on?"
Kid "Cannabis and cocaine."
Guy "I've never done any of that.....coke"

randall smith to be honest he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would do drugs

oye sería bueno que lo traducirán a español👍
The problems is the education system. Some people, myself included can't learn being told but if shown can pick it up straight away
What board is the skill shortage across? Scaffold, plaster, cheese, chess, morter?
Hahaha ya tit
Give a young Scouser a construction skill they would Rob safes!

Wanting to be a youtuber is no different to the old dream of a rockstar or movie start. Its just more accessible for anyone

the uk started going downhill when we joined the eu , apprentices dried up....greedy bosses just employed fully skilled workers from aboard
