I swim all 4 strokes, but haven't strung them together in an IM yet. When the pool reopens in Edinburgh, I'll start that to change up the training and shed those covid pounds!
I watched this video 2 years ago right before my competition and i was going someone twice my age and it was quite scary but in a miracle i beat her timing by 5 seconds. Everybody now talks about be and I’m quite popular now they started calling me a small prodigy. I have been watching your videos ever since i was 10 and I appreciate these videos and I am also excited for upcoming ones too
Thanks for the tips. I’ve been out of the pool for 25 years, have got back into training 6 months ago and have a 200 IM in a couple of weeks. Did a trial 200 IM and headed out. Love the processes discussed here and will put it in practice over the next few weeks. Cheers!
Hit a milestone today!! Did my first ever 200 IM. Did a second as well. Great workout to really engage those energy systems. I was doing the same thing for the longest time and just doing a lot of freestyle!! IM makes the workout a lot more fun!!
I have a meet tomorrow and have to swim the 200 IM. How did youtube know?! Where's the cameras?! 😂 I had to swim the 500 yesterday and would much rather swim the 200 IM and people say I'm crazy for wanting to
I love all these tips. But I would also suggest a blend of 4 and 10 at 300 IM base for both conditioning and confidence building. That is, transition IMs with 75 fly, 75 back for a total of 150. Then 75 back/75 breast. Etc., etc. on an interval that works for you. When you become able, begin to put these at race pace (or very near) vs above race pace with 50 or 100 recovery swim in between. Being able to swim the the legs at longer distance in both the aerobic AND threshold and above are great for both conditioning and, especially if you are new to the race, confidence. Another good one for a mid distance conditioning set that takes it from 150 to 250 is 25 fly/50 bk/75 br/100 free in order to simulate the back end fatigue and take a bit of the burden of the initial fly leg out of the equation. As was mentioned, think easy speed on the fly and then building each 25 on the remaining 3 legs. While I agree with Fares that speed and tempo is crucial, I’d suggest making this slight “over distance” some 15-20% of your training, maybe even more if you are contemplating eventually tackling 400 IM (god speed fellow traveler). Just my inflation adjusted 2 cents.
I am an IM er . I am just 12 and a half born on 2008 and I give 2.45. My competitors give 2.21 who 2006 and I am 2008. My competitor of 2008 who is 1st in my year gave 2.29
My breaststroke leg was decent. But I was gassed on that free leg. I was 32.06 39.23 49.26 and then 38.19. For a 2:38.74 lcm I need better cardio for sure 😂😂
I am relatively new to swimming so I am looking at ways to improve my technic on all four strokes. As such the 200 IM seems a very good goal , if I can swim 50 meters of each stroke non stop it would be an achievement for me. I am physically strong so by working very hard I can already manage the 100 IM I have to work so hard to complete that 100 I’m that I am not convinced yet that I am a good swimmer, a strong swimmer yes but not a good swimmer. My stream line sucks my turns at the wall sucks, I have so much to learn and just love it. 😁😁😁
I have qualified the im 200 before for national when i was 12 and i haven't raced in like 2 years so idk if i'll be able to do it again, but im is my best stroke
that 5 minute cry I let out before I do the 200 IM has really humbled me. Love your videos.
not me watching this a few hours before my meet 💀👍🏻
Not me watching this one hour before my meet💀💀
Not me watching this two minutes before my event
I need to fix my backstroke leg so much. I feel I would enjoy IM more if backstroke wasn't the same speed as my breastroke
E Man Same I have been working on breast. I already am bad at it alone, but I am making progress.
Personally feeling like it would be nice if my backstroke wasn't slower than my breaststroke lol
For me I think it would be better if my breaststroke isn't the fastest by a couple seconds
Same, my 100 Back is the EXACT same time as my 100 Breast at 1:05.13. If my backstroke weren’t so terrible my 200 IM would be much better.
Keep legs at surface, head facing up, and pull with arms bent at 90 degrees
I swim all 4 strokes, but haven't strung them together in an IM yet.
When the pool reopens in Edinburgh, I'll start that to change up the training and shed those covid pounds!
Love swimming IM!

lol 100 IM is a sprint
@williamrithaler4051 not for someone swimming it for the first time. don't be daft
@naimapai2697 you don't know how much they were training before
@naimapai2697 I was also just trying to make them less nervous. As in 100 Im is a sprint you got this
@williamrithaler4051 it very much didn't come off that way but 🤷🏻♀️ oh well I hope they did good
Thanks a lot, incredible as always. Maybe should you have mentioned the specific turns between strokes (e.g. backstroke to breaststroke)...
fire video!
Thanks 🔥
I love the 400IM. I also think it makes your 200IM better mentally and physically. "Train up to swim down"😉
Great Tips! Love a good 100 IM the most! And where can we buy that cool shirt your wearing?
I have a meet tomorrow and have to swim the 200 IM. How did youtube know?! Where's the cameras?! 😂 I had to swim the 500 yesterday and would much rather swim the 200 IM and people say I'm crazy for wanting to

*whine* my mom keeps making fun of my being horrible at free lol
My breaststroke leg was decent. But I was gassed on that free leg. I was 32.06 39.23 49.26 and then 38.19. For a 2:38.74 lcm I need better cardio for sure 😂😂
100IM
why not train 200 im with 250 im - starting with 100 fly - then when you race 200 im you have speed power and endurance to spare?
I am relatively new to swimming so I am looking at ways to improve my technic on all four strokes. As such the 200 IM seems a very good goal , if I can swim 50 meters of each stroke non stop it would be an achievement for me. Keep up the great work, Marc! Check out this video on streamline tips: ruclips.net/video/b3k3w7ilkII/video.html
I’m a backstroker, breaststroker, and distance freestyler, but I just can’t do fly
i do well for fly and im a breaststroker and backstroker, however i swim extremely slow on those when tired and i suck at free >:(
no cause i have to swim a 200 IM against my fastest friend tomorrow and i haven't swam it before like ever. literally what the fuck
I am swimming a 200 IM for the first time tomorrow at a meet and I am so extremely nervous!!!!
How did it go?!
@siennasavoie It went well and I got through it :)
@kimortiz6183 that’s good! I have a 200IM race tomorrow for the first time and when I tell you I am scared for my life-
Well I came in last, but I got through it
My swim pro, can you analyze the 1:51.4 200 fly by Kristof Milak
Great suggestion!
200 im
im 10 added 2 secs on my last meet of this age for 200im to 2.32 really sad :(
I have qualified the im 200 before for national when i was 12 and i haven't raced in like 2 years so idk if i'll be able to do it again, but im is my best stroke
Good luck!
@FaresKsebati thank you!
I swam a 200 IM yesterday and had faster fly than free and got a 2:31.18
Great job, Luke! Sounds like you need to work a bit more on endurance, but that's a great start. Keep it up and have fun - you've got this!
Thank you and I’m kind of starting worry about my 400 IM in early January
My coach just enrolled me in the 50 free, 50 breast, 50 butterfly, 50 back AND 200 IM. In 1 week exactly and I'm scared cuz I get very tired aaaaaa.
You've got this! Good luck!
Good luck!!
I’m starting to swim 200 IM for my swim team and I find it to be really fun so thank you for the tips!
So glad to hear that! Keep up the great work and have fun :)
