Hey scotty I have a 2021 f150 5.0 lariet 4x4 and I'm averaging 21.5 mpg city and rural.
I have a 2008 f150 4.6l v8 has over 400k miles original engine, those engines are bulletproof engines.

20.5 mpg and that kind of acceleration is even more impressive when you consider that it has the Tremor offroad package.

In case anyone is wondering why the headlights are flashing like that, it has to do with something called pulse width modulation (PWM) and the difference between it and the frame rate of the camera. In reality, the lights work just fine. It just appears to act erratically on camera.

2009 ford f-150, over 300,000 miles and I am a rancher so it has not had an easy life. they made a believer out of me.
My first truck is a 2009 f150 5.4 i like what youre saying
I've had my mustang for 23 years and I have never had a problem with it. Everything is original except for a water pump that I replaced 10 years ago. It's survived 2 teenagers and will survive my 3 grandkids. Still gets 26mpg and it cost me 20 grand and I'll never pay more than that for any new car
Fords are the best. I had one that made it all the way to 60,000 miles. The only thing I did was change the main engine seal, new heater core, plugs and points, brakes and rotors, rear differential and the headers. Other than that it ran like a dream.
I sense sarcasm.

We got a 2018 Edge Sport with the 2.7L V6 Ecoboost and love it. Amsoil oil changes every 5K and figure it will last 160K easy...
As an owner of a 2018 Ford F-150 with a 3.5L Ecoboost the best gas mileage I have ever gotten in over a year is 17.5 MPG on a road trip that was almost all highway at 70-72 MPH.
I’ve gotten 20.5 mpg with my tundra before. Highway only though
I can get low 20s in my Silverado easily on the freeway with my v8 without cylinder deactivation lil
You have to stay out of boost. Most people getting bad mpg either they don't use the correct oil nor change it regularly. This causes issues with the VVT on the camshafts. A lot of people floor it ever time they leave a stop light.
Check the gap on your plugs. Ford recommends changing them at 100,000 miles.
I get the same gas mileage from my 1980 Ford F-150 shortbed with the 4.9 inline 6 cylinder .
My 4.3 gmc Sonoma gets better than that @ 288,847 miles all original …I call her “the ss “-super stock
A key thing here is simply that he took care of his old truck. Scotty, it would be interesting if you could do a video about the longest life you've ever seen out of a Kia, or a Hyundai, or similar vehicles, that were properly maintained. I'm just curious to know what fails on them, even if you take care of them. Of course, most people don't, they just drive them into the ground.
I owned two Elantra’s. One was totaled when I got rear ended, and another one that I sold to CarMax before i got my CX-5.
Only problems I ever had on those vehicles were batteries dying out either at or around the time the mileage warranty expires (go figure),
and some tires getting nails in them.
Besides that, they were solid. Now granted The ‘16 only had 55k miles on it and the ‘17 only had 47k on it so it’s not a fair comparison to your point.
But when you compare maintaining a sub 20k vehicle to a 75k truck, it’s apples to oranges.
That being said, I felt like those two cars I owned were solid and could have hit 150k with minimal problems. Did oil changes, rotations, and minimal warranty work.
I have owned a 2014 Ford Focus (auto) for over five years now and have had very little problems out of it. I change the oil every 3500-4000 miles and do other general maintenance as needed. Obviously, these cars are notorious for TERRIBLE transmission issues; however, I have only spent $1200 in the past 5 years (first-gear clutch) in repairs on the vehicle, excluding a pair of new Michelin tires. While the car still drives CLUNKY, and my clutch sounds like tin cans rattling inside my vehicle, my car is still going pretty strong for the insane amount of unreliability it's supposed to have.
The ecoboost is def got enough power but I would still opt for the 5.0L even if it gets a little worse gas mileage
we have had issues with three trucks with the 3.5 ecoboost so we switched to the v8 because with how we drive it gets better fuel economy believe it or not
@@dictatorofsalt5902 yep I have heard that. I have a 3.5 eco and I average 15 mpg 50’/50 highway city miles.
@@NG-tz8wo thats about what my daily 2003 silverado with the 5.3 gets its currently getting 16mpg

I think the 2023 Tremor is available in the V8! Good move Ford!
when my truck was empty it was a crazy bucking bronco with 325HP. it was too light for the power it had. i loved that truck.
Beautiful truck. God bless our service men and women!
I just had one of these while my Jetta was getting the timing belt changed. From the dealer and brand new. It was a Lariat 4X4 with a 10 speed. I let it drive with the adaptive cruise control. In a 162 mile trip I got 27.7. 90% AL highway, with hills, and 10% city. I was shocked.
That had to be the 2.7
Badass truck. Well deserved too. Thank you for serving our country.
The Army was without a doubt the best thing that happened to me!!!
Great Video Scotty! Just picked up my new 23 Tremor (marked down 3k!) this week and I absolutely love the truck coming from a 2014 FX4. This is an absolute home run in my opinion for Ford. Was originally looking at the Lariat with the Lariat high package and for about the same price, the Tremor is far superior in comfort, ride, everything.
I just realized thanks to this video that you can lock out the gears by using the +/- on the shifter to subtract (-) from the available gears. Awesome and useful feature.
Sure is a nice truck. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford one like that. But until then, I'll stick with my 2008 Nissan Titan with no paint on it. Haven't had to do too much with that thing. It's been super reliable and paid off since 2012/2013 saving me a ton of money.
The best car is a paid off car.
@@chuckhoyle1211 Agree.
I have a 2021 XL (didn’t even have cruise, I had to buy the buttons and change the PCM built as codes) with the 5.0 and 10 speed and I typically average 20 mpg or so on ethanol free fuel. No issues so far. I worry more about the current engine options than the 10 speed, outside of some harshness issues they seem to be pretty good. Of course I have the basic 3.31:1 rear end but I mean I’ve towed about 7500 lbs with it and it’s not stressed at all. The 5.0 will get over 20.5 mpg on the highway in stock form with no issue. If I make a trip on lower speed highways where I’m doing 60-65 mph or so it will easily get like 25 mpg
After 9 months of waiting, we finally received our 2022 F150 to replace our 2019 and we love it.
Why replacing the 2019 one? its only 3 years old!
@@RohanSanjith it was a 2 year lease, but we almost had it for 3 years because the 2022 truck took 9 months to finally arrive.

Thanks Scotty, I've had my new 23' F-150 XLT for about 2 months now and I do love it and it's pretty easy to maintain. However, I can't say U.S. QC is any better than Mexico. My truck wouldn't start within 15 hours of driving it home. It took the dealership a month to figure out that the wrong AC module was put in the truck and was draining the battery and tripping almost every sensor and code. Now that's fixed, it runs well and is smooth as my Avalon and even gets 25 MPG on the highway and 22.5 MPG in the city with the V8.
Hey Scotty, I enjoyed the video. I have a 2019 F-150 with the 5 liter V-8. I get up to 23 mpg at 70mph. Like you, I enjoy the sound of the V-8. I love my Ford trucks.
Same here brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 147,000 miles on it and still going strong and its a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla ATAK exhaust on it.
My son just bought a 2020 Lariat with the 5.0L. Had a tough time finding a 8 cylinder.
My old friend’s Mom bought a 79 T Bird with the 351 Winchester V8 back when new. He inherit the car with 127,000 when Mom retired from driving. He drove the car an additional 80,000, gave it away with 207,000. The body had rot, but the motor was still solid.
Does yours use oil?
Actually on his "dragstrip" you can hear the V8 sound. It is Enhanced Engine Sounds that play through the radio whether it is on or not. I had the dealer shut mine off. I prefer quiet, especially on a long drive home towing my trailer.
$75,000!! I only paid $66,600 for my Silverado 3500 Diesel Dually and that was a lot.

Proud owner of one- tremor with a 5.0 L . Made in america 🇺🇸
I don't disagree that most people think an F150 is a "huge" truck but as someone who drives an F350 I cant help but laugh.
There is a guy on youtube who has 400,000 on a 2011 f-150 ecoboost. Other than the camphaser issues on the 2018-2020 ecoboost, they are pretty solid engines.
The first gen(2011-2016) had the chain stretch issue and horrific exhaust manifold design. I warped my OE manifolds at 70k and a much beefier aftermarket manifold after only a year. Ford did finally release an updated manifold design this year but the just is still out.
What? Scotty saying something nice about an ecoboost F-150? I’m impressed.
Easy to say something good about a brand new vehicle. I want to see his comments on a 10 or 15 year old one that he has to replace a turbo on and explain to the customer why it's so expensive!
@@phanttomracer Scotty has never been a fan of the ecoboost motors. I agree, it is new.
I have a '16 F150 XLT Sport Package, tow package, 6 speed and 3.5 EB. Payload is 1832# towing rated at 10,000#. I get 19mpg around town. When I go to the mountains with the family I get 21mpg. We went to Orlando from NC I got 25mpg. Towing near max it gets 9 - 10mpg. This truck has 130,000 on it all I've changed was the plugs( because one craked), the factory battery ,oil and filter. 385hp and 420ft/t is more than my 2009 mustang had and 0-60 is right there with it. Great truck love it.
But yet still won't outlast my 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 mate.
I love my 2016 3.5 ecoboost fx4. I'll never get rid of it.... except maybe for that tremor. Such nice vehicles, with plenty of hi-ya when you need/ want it !!!!
I just got my 2015 F150 lariat. I’m so happy with that first year of the aluminum body paid 3250 87,000 miles. I need it to do plumbing work. I had a Corolla and I couldn’t work out of it like your videos.
I change the oil in my truck every 3,000 miles, since I'm the second owner. Can't be too careful :)
Same that is how me and my dad have always been. We just like making sure our stuff has clean fluids and is taken care of
I drain the oil in my 2017 F150 3.5 every 3K miles. In the intercooler that is.
The manual transmission main advantage is the strength of it. And saves on gas, too.
actually these days the auto gets better mileage than the manual in most applications due to the improved efficiency of transmissions, additional gears, and computer controlled shifting.
Scotty, look up the specs. The 3.5 EcoBoost has more hp and torque than the V 8. The highest towing capacity is with the V6.
The Ecoboost has more torque then the V8. I have a 23’ with the 5.0. Had a 22 with the 5.0. Both have gotten 18-20mpg consistently. I’ve put 26k miles on mine since last April lol. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned and I’ve Owned over 60 vehicles.

My 2020 Ford F150 4x4 extended cab with a V8, 5 liter can get 24 mpg. North East Georgia mountains to Tennessee mountains. When I tow a big box trailer I get 13.5.
I miss when new vehicles were affordable 15-20 years ago
Same here mate.
I get it...but back then you didn't have a 10 speed transmission and twin liquid cooled turbo chargers with direct and indirect port injectors, 8+ cameras, etc. These vehicles are fancy thats why they're so expensive.
@@dcgregorya5434 Very true, but I don't care to even have all that stuff, way too much tech going into the new vehicles nowadays.

Everyone says that. Inflation I remember when gas was .65 cents a gallon. Car manufacturers know we need them. They charge whatever they want. It sucks but it is what it is.
I got the 2015 4x4 v6 twin best truck since my 97 F250
Nice truck! I like a large car for the ride. Trucks these days have gotten much better for the ride, but it's still a truck. I haven't bought it yet, but I have plans to. At $175 for that kind of power through a Monoblock Amp that can mix down the stereo input, or $190 with a complete wiring kit, it's hard to beat!
8:34 I laughed then immediately started crying because I thought it would be a little cheaper and I can’t afford that lol
I have a 2018 crew cab. The only issue with the rear seats is that they don’t recline so they are very uncomfortable after 1hr. Roomy yes but uncomfortable back there

Hey Scotty. How do you feel about the new Dodge Charger Daytona SRT? Love to see a video of you hearing your thoughts on it!
That is *ONE SWEET RIDE* but, I'm not a fan of the V6 TT. If I had *$75K* sitting around, I would make an exception and buy one, as I've been fond of Ford for decades.😲😲😲
2012 2 wheel drive, did a milage run the other day. 23 mpg WITH a 5.0 V8. Oh did I mention it has 150 k on it? No turbos for me thank you!
My '16 3.5 had the turbos leaking all over and the manifolds were cracked when I bought it. Common issue sadly. Replaced all fittings and manifolds with aftermarket ones that held at more points. She works good now, I get 23 MPH on the highway. When towing it's low 6-8 MPH, but it pulls my 8,000 lbs trailer no problem. What is a problem is the heat coming off the turbos. I'm gonna have to install new intercooler next.
Yeah the manifolds are bad on the 11-16 3.5 Ecoboost. Ford actually just released an updated design that has an extra stud and is made from stainless steel.
Did you go with the BD manifolds?
@@Jay-me7gw Yep, I went with BD. Not perfect, but I have confidence they should last. That's cute that Ford is getting around to fixing it now, but I'm guessing no recall has been issued. I'd like to get a refund from them if it ever happens, but that's Ford for ya.
@@johnnixon I doubt anything will happen. The fact that they even released a new design 6+ years after the last gen 1 3.5 was produced is perplexing. Basically every truck with an issue is out of warranty at this point. Why bother?
Cool (trailer setup to adjust trailer and trailer brakes)hehe scottty. That's actually pro trailer backup assist knob
I have an F-150 (Hybrid Limited model), too. Engine is made in Mexico.
changing oil frequently and meticulous maintenance is most of the answer to engine fail problems with all the brands of cars. The ecoboost has its own sets of problems but I do recognize it can be a good motor with proper care. Still it can be a pain for breakdown issues and I personally always opt for naturally aspirated and lots of cubes in a truck.
Same here my brother and thats why I stick to my 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 147,000 miles and still going strong with only minor issues.
Even well-maintained they still have expensive problems with coolant and oil leaks. Ford Boss Me RUclips channel has good videos on them.
Scott your laugh is a gift to the world
Thank you for the video
I like that F150! Ford refined a lot of things in that truck! The performance seems decent for a V6 and for a stock exhaust it didn't sound bad!
my friend has the 3.2 diesel, towed 2500 lbs doing 80mph - it felt like nothing and got lil under 25mpg
With care and reasonable driving a small engine can successfully power a big vehicle. Remember back in ancient times how many big trucks were powered by straight sixes and with gearing could carry a heavy load.
Those old six cylinder truck engines had long strokes giving them much more torque.
I saw you Wednesday in front of your house, I was in an A1 heating and cooling van
Eh still old school. Give me a nice pushrod v8. bulletproof. Not a fan of turbos. Especially when they fail out of warranty, are pretty pricy. No turbo problems on the NA v8/v6 engines!
Looks like you’re driving on Tiny Town Road right outside of Fort Campbell
At about 6:45 "doesn't have the rumble and torque of a V8". Rumble is correct. Torque wrong -- the 3.5L EB has more torque than GM 6.2 (500# vs 460#), or Ram 5.7 (500# vs 410#). AND the torque is delivered at a lower RPM as well.
Come on Scotty --- you should know this.
(Info from the mfg'r websites 8/18/22, does not include the "special models" like TRX or Raptor, where Ram dominates.)
nice but I would love a Super Duty with a 7.3 with the 10 speed transmission.
that Transmission with the Diesel ....wow.
I have a 2014 f150 with a 3.7 naturally aspirated ( non turbo ) I'm getting 20 mpg average .
I love the truck, the tremor package is cool, and he did a good job adding the appropriately orange colored details!
but it's more higher tech than my 18, 2x what I paid for it with tax.... I'll keep mine!
I can appreciate saving the money. I definitely wouldn't have spent if I could have avoided it. The only truck I could find around town that had the features I actually wanted. Paid a lot for options I could have done without!!!
On one video, you'll talk trash about the turbocharged ecoboost, but on anther video you'll talk good about them. Do you like them or not? Are some of them good and the others bad?
I think Scotty hates the little ecoboost engines in the smaller vehicles, like the 2.0L 4 cylinder. He wasn't big on the pickup ecoboost years ago but it seems that they have proven themselves to scotty.
For reliability, nothing beats naturally aspirated pushrod displacement.
My old 300 straight 6 will still be running while all the turbos are in the shop
Scotty is 8.73% politician.
@@tomdavis3038 if you take care of them they will last. Diesel engines have had turbos for decades and they last so why not gasoline turbos
Hey Scotty, thank you for all of your informative videos. Do you have any videos on the 2014 Ford Explorer advance track, traction control lights leading to power steering and signal light failures? Thank you In advance.
Beautiful truck
Nice looking truck I would like the tremor 250 or 350 model ..soon
I get 24.5 mog from a 2014 Ram 1500 4×4 5.7 with the 6 speed automatic Transmission
Mpg
I would just get the basic F-150 with the V-8 and standard cab/bed. I'm not a fan of turbos on gasoline engines in general and I just don't really need a lot of the hi-tech features.
Agreed brother
That's cool you have a transmission temperature
it can use the cheapest gas not being a turbo, but still. to fill it is like 80 to 100 bucks. my 4 baNger i filled 2 days ago 25 bucks.
9:32 Great retirement gift! 👍
I recently bought a 2022 F-150 STX 2.7 eco boost 4x4 with the tow package . I am the happiest man alive
Only weakness of the 3.5 is self inflicted with not changing oil frequent enough it’ll take out your timing chains (vct rattle doesn’t count since it’s not common and under extended warrenty)
Changing the water pump is gonna be a real chore
I'd politely disagree. I work at a shop and already have two customers who need major turbo work that will require pulling the cab. One got it done. The other can't afford the job and so their very new F-150 has become a lawn ornament...kind of like a lot of Fords, lol. And I work in a very small town here in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. So it's not like I have a huge customer base. Can't imagine how many are actually having failed turbos if I already have two outside of a town of only a couple hundred people!
@@southwestvajeeper5106 I work at a large ford dealer, literally never see turbo failure, probably a self inflicted issue. Also should be no reason to pull the entire cab to replace turbos
@@kclefthanded427 that’s the 3.5 n/a in the explorers, it’s under the timing cover in the engine not the 3.5 ecoboost, sorry for not clarifying
@@loganmarkey3058 A lot of people don't trust the dealers to give honest reports on their vehicle's problems. So we independent shops end up getting a lot of work that would otherwise go to the dealers.
I'd say that is probably why you haven't seen any broken turbos and I've already seen two. And BTW, the two customer's who had broken turbos were maintained by our shop. We place very much importance on high-quality work, so it wasn't "self-inflicted". It was Ford-inflicted. 😂
As to the cab pulling, that is the fastest way to get to the turbos on F-150s. That's what Mitchell 1 said. We confirmed that information by another Ford dealer on RUclips who pulled cabs to replace those turbos.
How dose that take a picture from above.....I just looked it up, too cool.
That big screen is something. I wouldn’t know weather to drive it or just watch tv
That wasn't the traction control button on the wheel. That's for forward safety distance for cruise control
BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!
😎👍
SCOTTY YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE! YOU SHOULD GET ONE! 😉👍
"MADE IN THE USA! 🇺🇸"
In Europe Ford is little on expensive side for services and it is hard to sell it used. I had Ford Focus 2010 and bought Opel Astra 2017. Only ride/sportines was on side of ford but everything else Astra does better. Of course I have connection in Opel, so I get it pretty cheap with a lot equipment, base 30000€ while Ford was 20000€.
3.5 has more torque than the 5.0 and the button pushed as traction control was the lane assist. I drive mine on sport mode unless I’m on the highway.
Drove by Ford in Sac, many of these and roush models f150s were 82k and up. For f150s. Roush ranger was 61k 🤯 crazy prices.
Too complicated. Bring back roll down windows, wing windows, manual transmission, 460 From the old Lincoln. Fuel injection, AC ok but that's it
what do you think of the discontinued 3.0 powerstroke? or the ram 3.0 ecodiesel and gm 3.0 duramax?
