It's not just that, it's the inhabitants as well. Throughout your journey, while everyone else is telling you to go slay the dragon and attain glory on the sole account of that you're the Arisen and nothing else, the people of Cass are telling you to be safe always and worry because they knew you before you was this grand hero. They have huge pride in there mixed as well and simple disbelief at things you accomplish. Hell, they even tell you can stop being Arisen and just come back forever (Goddamn Chief Adaro, man. I honestly, truly love you and your beautiful words.) I fucking love that the devs kept updating the citizens of Cass' dialogue with the events happening in the game, even though there is little cause to ever go back there after leaving the town the first time. I pretty much went to the place only on my own will, which is pretty rare in a game nowadays. This is my favorite town in video games, ever.
visiting cassardis from the seneschal's chamber... a moment of silence then this song kicks in... feels like the dragon is ripping my heart out all over again.
"Cruel, unending ring" indeed. You'd think godhood would be pretty rad but not in DD. You meet Savan and he basically wants to die lol. All that effort creating Grigori, having him raise conflict to find Arisen was all just to find replacement for the throne. He wanted out.
this is one of the most beautiful fucking songs i have ever heard. i was completely shocked when i first loaded into cassardis and heard this theme. amazing.
I'm kind of late here but, Dragon's Dogma has one of the best combat system out of all the games that I have played. It's a shame that most games don't incorporate any realism to their enemies or bosses. Amazing music btw.
You can't be late in a game that seems eternal and intemporal. I bet even in several years that game will be part of the rare games that have a gameplay so good it keeps on living everywhere
+SomaticAtrophy yep, many soundtracks and places remind me of Berserk, there's also some references to the anime... like the guts and grifth armors and weapons.
For me it was the main menu song. Honestly music alone is what allows me to know if a game will be good or not. And i must say this game has me pondering so much about it, even though its been months since I’ve beaten it.
A portion of Cassardis Beach is based off of a portion of the beach on the island of Ko Lan, Thailand. It's a dream of mine to get to that part of the island, sit back in the sand and listen to this theme, seeing the part that is 1:1 to the game before my eyes. The world would expand and shrink in all of the best ways, knowing what is possible creatively and literally, and how they would come together in that single, simple moment of happiness. You can't ask or expect much more out of life than the simplicity and bliss that some things bring you. Your imagination above all else should never be neglected!
You know, a lot of Dragon's Dogma world is also based of Mediterrean Costs of France and more exactly, Provence, come to France, in the South, you will see
Interesting Fact: Dragon’s Dogma sampled a song from the game Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). The song is called ‘Kingdom Valley - Water’ and both share the same vocals.
The first time back was an illusion of safety. The second time I was a god playing with ants that were my friends and neighbors. The third time I was reborn as a dragon in a new world.
When was the last time you can think that a dev out this much passion and work into just the hometown music? Let alone the entire soundtrack, good lord. Literally the best among all gaming
Bruno Ggimenezz I just finished this game (Dark Arisen) yesterday on 360 while my PS4 collects dust (waiting on Witcher 3), and it was a really cool game. I didn't even do most side quests and I clocked at 28 hrs.
I go to cassardis just to see the villagers. The secrets the village hides and its homely nature is so welcoming. I feel as though I owe it to the villagers to come back every once in a while. And every time I do, I always take the time to listen to the theme in its entirety and I usually go to the cave under chief adaros house to watch the village from up there as the song ends
Place always felt like home. I really liked looking at sea at sunset turning to evening, and the little house along the left side of the cliff side was really Ghiburi-esque and cute. -Im also getting some 90s Berserk vibes too from this piece for some reason too lol.
Just finished my first playthrough of Dragon's Dogma, and hearing this just makes everything stop, the sound just surrounds you and rips you every which way, it's nostalgic and macabre, and so damn beautiful. Fantastic game btw I'm looking forward to DDII.
I'm just going to put this on all day long, on repeat, and occasionally stare into the sun with a smile of contentment and inner peace. Until, of course, I hear the flapping of wings...
I've actually been thinking about making a Dragon's Dogma webseries. Who would watch that? And I think this song would make the best endcredit sequence.
Zachary McGinnies No, it's not just you. I was like that too, before I made several other characters. Then the feeling dissipated. It kind of makes sense though, what with the whole relationship an Arisen has with their pawn.
I kinda hate the pawn system, love the game so far but I really wish there were interesting side characters that you actually want to hear talk instead of emotionless annoying people you switch out every few levels
I intend to keep the same pawn through my playthroughs, or at least the same one through the NG +'s. When I eventually start a *new* game, I'll change it, but I can't leave Despacito hanging in the wind.
@Evrouin Westmoore- I know this comment is 4 years late but I’m the same way. My pawn, who was named Dawn, was such an interesting partner. She’s a strider elf girl I had made and she’s notorious for doing crazy stuff. She loves throwing skulls at dead monsters and she climbs everything she can. Dragon’s Dogma wouldn’t be the same without her lol
Just started playing and already attached to mine. Named mine Sword Maiden and my arisen Orcbolg as to roleplay Goblin Slayer. Returning home to Cassardis and hearing the theme always brings a smile to my face.
Nostalgia could bring a lot of feelings. At the right time this can be sad. Or happy. The happy comes from being surrounded by kin. By those you love and cherish. Honest work that helps everyone. Or this song can be at a journey’s end. Thinking back to those you’ve helped. Those you’ve lost. Was it all worth it? Was it all you wanted? Or are the answers out there somewhere. Waiting for you.
I always have the time to come back to Cassardis every now and then, just to listen to this beauty, check on the people on the Village, and get prepared to embarc on a new Quest.
