When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, I took may out of town guests to Alcatraz. It was a scary place. I took my hubby on the evening trip there. It must have been tough for the prisoners because they were so close to San Fran that they could hear the people partying on New Years Eve. The evening trip is even scarier then the day trip. If you are even in the Bay Area, I recommend a trip there. And it's haunted :)

Something that American prisoners everywhere else in the country did not have... also, there is a small crematorium in Alcatraz for prisoners who had died during their stay. There are many more things to go over but it would take a whole novel haha. It’s an amazing place to see and it’s history has a little bit of everything from criminals to the military, and even to Native Americans!

It was a different time. Many people did not know the long lasting health affects of smoking back then.
this was in the 20's-40's back then smoking wa susually done from a cigar or similar and was considered if anything, healthy.
