But alcoholics anonymous makes avoidance of alcohol basically religious, and their is a subtle sense of shaming someone who fails in this. You're deliberately given a buddy/sponsor to hold you to all o this. Now if it saves your life, well it may b worth it. But must AA people trade their addiction to alcohol (or another substance) for an addiction to the group catharsis of oversharing. Johnson looks like a devotee. He also likely loves the power of having an audience listen to his story, and the humiliation of hearing other people's personal stories.
