  • 50 mile endurance race! Well, not all races end as you had hoped. Trails were stunning. Ride extremely well run. Sometimes a 65 year old body just doesn't get with the program. Not our first 50 mile race and certainly not our last. Just a bump along the way to our 100. All journeys have bumps. This was our bump.

I'm just a bit older than you - but so wish I could be doing that too. Only ever managed 30 miles here in the UK with my (sadly now long gone) Arabian. Good Luck

Thank you. I wish you could be riding too. I wish that for anyone who finds they are done before they “feel” they are done.

WOW! It was a shock to hear that at the end of your video! Happy you made it, and you have a wonderful family supporting you! I am also glad you have shared this detailed emergency details, this make us more aware of risks we could encounter while riding long hours. You are so young in spirit and mind, keep going!!!

Good to hear that you are doing well.
My sister and I are going to try some introductory rides. I wouldn't call 25 miles an "endurance" ride. We are 64 and 66 years old.
It was fun and inspiring to find your videos. I think that you both handle those beautiful but spirited horses very well. I was watching in one of the videos the grey horse was hopping around and the rider did a great job of coping with it.
Ride well and take care of yourself.

I remember my first few introductory rides “they were the best of times- they were the worst of times!” Enjoy! Honestly, at 65 riding keeps me moving - slowly at times with lots of sore muscles but all in all, I am MUCH fitter than I would be without it!

Wow I'm so glad you are ok!
I have had issues with electrolytes in the past that led to an er visit and one thing I found out is the popular sports drinks we buy usually have very little in the way of actual electrolytes, I started using products developed for ultra runners instead and have much better results

Thank you. So interesting you say this… I secretly suspect the commercial electrolyte drink I was taking as well… just not ready to say too much puvlically yet. I think it was a combination of the perfect storm but it’s not the first time I felt off after taking that brand. Also, I am watching ultrarunners videos like there is no tomorrow. Thank you for sharing.

I’m seriously interested in this sport.
How do the riders go pee? I drink a lot and have had three kids so I have to go every 45 minutes soooo idk how that would work. Squat on the trail?
