Chrysler’s Dodge division produced its iconic Power Wagon medium-duty four-wheel-drive pickup from 1945 through 1980. The Power Wagon was a civilian version based on Dodge’s ¾-ton WC series of Military trucks designed for World War II service.
When Dodge launched its new C-Series pickups for the 1957 model year, these also carried the “Power Wagon” brand name. Consequently, Chrysler’s marketers labeled the unchanged Power Wagon as the “Military Type with the series number WM-300.
The heavy-duty four-wheel-drive W-300 and W-500 trucks were marketed as "Power Giants.”
The 1961 WM300 Power Wagon came equipped with a 94 horsepower 230 cubic inch (3.8 L) flathead inline-six engine. Chrysler engineers paired the engine’s 185 lb-ft of torque with a four-speed manual transmission featuring a non-synchronized first gear.
The WM300 Power Wagon relied on a traditional part-time four-wheel-drive system manually engaged using locking hubs that controlled the engagement of a transfer case driving the front wheels. WM300 Power Wagons featured leaf-sprung live axle suspension setups for both the front and rear, which provided considerable ground clearance and the ability to tackle rough terrain.

The WM300's chassis featured a heavy-duty ladder frame, ensuring structural integrity under heavy loads and harsh conditions. The truck's body was utilitarian, with a simple, flat-panel design that facilitated easy repair and maintenance. The cab was basic but functional, with seating for up to three occupants.
The WM300's standard features were minimal, focusing on practicality and durability. In addition to a 3,000-pound cargo capacity, WM300’s came equipped with a power take-off (“PTO”) system, allowing it to power auxiliary equipment such as winches and hydraulic systems. Optional equipment included a front-mounted winch and various bed configurations, catering to different commercial and industrial needs.
