You can say this for all players but I think COVID lockdowns and restrictions really messed up Serena's comeback, she was looking good in 2018 and 2019.
Thanks for this upload. What I really appreciated in seeing was that Bertens held her own against Serena. She was able to push Serena and ace her in games. Even though Bertens didn't win, she pushed Serena to the brink. Serena had to find a couple gears to get the win. Serena in 2018 was struggling with winning straight matches that would lead to a title. We know she got to the Wimbledon final where she lost to Angelique Kerber. I'm sure some have argued it was too soon for Williams to return so soon after having a baby. I think things came to a head when she played Osaka in the US Open final. It was a clue that her dominance was ending and her legacy was continuing.

Say what u want but Serena seems to learn extremely quickly. Forced her way through the first set then made all sorts of adjustments thru the second
