I let my mom play the game on my pc, because she loves this whole franchise. And as soon as I noticed the Thestrals, I went “OH SHIT HE FUCKIN DEAD!” I didn’t notice the first time around, because everything was laggy as hell due to my lack of ram at the time.
I literally started the game 10 mins ago and immediately got annoyed that the horses didn't load. I was cursing the game's bugginess until that Dragon scene revealed the ones flying the carriage. 10/10
@Isaac Clarke Oh fuck off. I've read the books probably 50 times. I thought they were those flying horses from Goblet of Fire that were bringing Beauxbatons to Hogwarts
Sadly I can't help but feel like the whole opening scene and intro to the game was actually the best part, especially the opening dialogue. It felt like it pulled you right in with the dialogue and atmosphere, then it kind of faded away as the game went on. I would like to see train travel in the sequel and a broader open world with actual cities and landmarks like London in the same period.
I agree, I thought it was a good game but it felt underwhelming and empty to an extent. I was hoping that there would have been a lot more in terms of interaction with NPCs and the environment 🤔
ilove the details. especially how you see the beasts flying the cart only after seeing the dragon killing the man, meeting the requirements of only seeing it after witnessing death
My first playthrough I thought it was just magic carriage and was confused on when they appeared until later on they explain it. I never watched the movies or read the books. On the second playthrough it clicked that's the moment your character first sees death
The game has some shoddy writing but the opening is one of the most well written events in the entire franchise. Establishing the plot, the ominous forboding hints of whats to come ect. i could go on but i'll end with the thestrals, it's simply just brilliant they did this in the attack. not only does it later down the line allow us to get our own thestrals without having to see another death, but it really is a powerful symbol for the death of a charecter that we only see shortly but is rather likeable.
That's much of what I thought. I was reading an article highly critical of the opening and I was baffled as I thought that if anything the opening was exceptional but the rest of the game, perhaps the best way I've heard it described in so many words is unfinished- empty- a first draft. In my opinion, if Witcher 2 and 3 (sorry can't comment on first game) could craft such a rich experience from its source material- why not Hogwarts Legacy?
@@jsnew3154 vinilla is a more apt word. The game does everything it needs to be a great experience, but falls short by not adding or developing further.
My biggest let down by the story was the Sebastian and Anne Storyline. The idea of us developing our skills and understanding of ancient magic to heal Anne is put very early in our heads, particularly since the game not so subtly hints of ancient magic being what cursed her, since nothing else worked. And then that expectation is never realized, she just goes away and we never see her again.
@@jeffulloa218 well it turns out it wasn't ancient magic or the warped from the goblins use either. The game makes a heavy enthesis on the dangers of using ancient magic to heal things such as mental health and other uncharted areas of magic. Best intentions led to Isidora becoming warped by the power of her magic.
@@grandmyotismon Precisely. Sebastian's story mirrors that of Isidora. It's good intentioned people who do things that end up making things worse and ruining the lives of the people they did everything for. It's the "how far is too far?" Question. I thought we were going to be involved in that, that we'd get to chose to use ancient magic on Anne or not, and that if we did, after witnessing Isidora's story and choosing not to heed the clear warning, we'd make things worse somehow. I thought that was what we were building towards, but in the end the only decision we get to make in Sebastian's story is wether to turn him in to be sent to Azkaban or not, and I think that's just not as compelling as what I believed the story was building towards.
An article on Inverse really bashes this but I was really impressed by it. In my opinion, contrary to the article author, it managed to slip that Threstral explanation in without removing from the scene- and it did so very effectively. Hopefully that person was just hard to impress- and 10 years back I'd have naturally came to that conclusion rather than wondering if bad faith is involved- and hopefully they didn't join the likes of Wire in the'I don't like the creator so their works are objectively bad' applied *philosophy* when it comes to writing reviews (but was the Wire reviewer even at an age where they might have a "'never meet your hero' realisation? They seem completely unfamilier with the concept?)... ...Although the widespread attitude of 'I shall project my values onto those of my idols and anyone associated with them. They cannot do bad. Their enemies cannot do good' is alarming for what it says about the human race. Also, Mikey, if you're reading this- get your own account. Your choice of videos and comments are making me look much more vacuous than I want to appear.
As soon as I saw the carriage take off into the air, I thought "I bet there'll be a plot point in this game where I end up being able to see the thestrals." I didn't realize it would be so soon 😅
Uuuhhhhh I'm not sure, and honestly, I pray I'm wrong, but I think just before the dragon bites down, you can hear George screaming. The score drowns it out a bit.
Best part of the beginning scene in my opinion is when the Thestrals appear after George dies

that's why i'm here
I agree that's when I realised this game was gonna be amazing
And they dance hip hop and R&B
I totally agree. It's a treat for those of us who know The Wizarding World well.
The moment I saw the thestrals I knew this game was going to be lit
That was such a metal start to the game
The animation is still unreal: some of the most beautiful and detailed character work ever
I literally started the game 10 mins ago and immediately got annoyed that the horses didn't load. I was cursing the game's bugginess until that Dragon scene revealed the ones flying the carriage. 10/10
Yeah this game has a lot of moments that make you think "is that a bug or magic?"
Thestrals
Yeah Thestrals only appear to those who’ve seen death. Though it raises macabre questions on how Thestral chariot drivers are selected.
@Isaac Clarke Oh fuck off. I've read the books probably 50 times. I thought they were those flying horses from Goblet of Fire that were bringing Beauxbatons to Hogwarts

isnt that the biggest problem people had with the game ? that the map was too big and wanted more focus on hogwarts itself.

Living vicariously through your clip because I played it with the ps1 Hagrid graphics... 😢
The way they keep the thestrals invisible untill you experienced death is dope af

(Ignore this, just need to repeat this part for convenience)
teh sequel needs us to explore london as a setting
can honestly say i thought that the carriage having no horses was a glitch
I think I'm blind here... Someone told me we can vaguely see Rookwood before they step into the carriage, but I can't see him! Somebody help!!!
I’m watching this because I impatiently skipped the whole scene 😅🙂
Lol I'm here because my laptop battery died mid-scene 😅😭 I knew it was running low but I was hoping I could make it to a pause point lol
