- How Elitism Hurts the Writing Community
Today, I'm going to talk about how elitism hurts the writing community and the publishing industry. Using ideas to put other writers and authors down and discourage people from writing is never helpful.

What elitism trends have you seen in the writing community?
Elitism in creative communities absolutely kills me. Art (in all its forms) is so powerful, and even the most casual piece can bring people together in such beautiful unexpected ways. So the fact that people judge, gatekeep, and mock other creatives just breaks my heart.
It's also so disheartening to learn there's an attitude that a writer needs to do everything themself in order to be a 'proper' writer. Creativity thrives from collaboration. Also, speaking from my experiences on deviantART in the mid 2000's, the idea that you have to do everything alone, and not look to others for anything, is such a hindrance to creative growth. I really hope people are able to get out of that mindset.
I really enjoyed this video. I have no intentions of ever making my works public, but I love hearing from other writers. And I'm so glad there's so much pushback against elitism and gatekeeping. We're stronger together than apart.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you so much for all your wonderful thoughts on this. I totally agree! Creativity comes in so many forms, even if they're only for yourself.
I have shared your video on my author page. I've heard just about everything since I began seriously to write nearly 20 years ago. It would take an essay of some length to outline all the crazy things I've heard--to be fair, one or two were actually pretty instructive. My best advice? Keep being YOU, write what you want to see, not the world you are told we are supposed to see!
Excited to see much impact the new look has had for the channel!
Thank you! It's really exciting!
if you're in Poland, few years back it was also near-impossible to get published if it's fantasy at all, since all the literary awards and school curriculum portrays it as the lesser form of writing. Idk if it changed now with possibility to bublish, but at least official parts still separate by "high literature" (historical, poetry), the popular science and "not worth attention".
I didn't know that. That really sucks. :(
nice
6:32 Most Latino dont like the X in this teem.

@@tgfabthunderbird1 most of the people dislike it... like yeah.

@@simonw.1223 I understand they might not, but elaborate, please. What about the X? Is it too much like a catch-all?
@@tgfabthunderbird1 I think they use Latino
Lmao who would be proud of not editing their story? Maybe they can give me money so I can afford a professional editor?
People are wild out here!
