  • For those of you that want to load up more programs, Apps, or install Linux along with Chrome OS, or want more storage beyond the 256GB m.2 NVMe SSD for storing videos, pictures, etc... on the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook. Here is a quick and easy way to upgrade the NVMe M.2 SSD inside the Samsung Chromebook to a 1TB storage! Again, many might not need so much storage, but if you want to install Linux along with many applications, maybe run and install Android Emulator on your Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, you don't have to worry so much of your storage.

    Thanks for your video. I upgraded my laptop with a bigger hard drive and worked like a charm so I thought I would upgrade the Chromebook when I got it. I wasn't looking for your video after buying my Chromebook so I went ahead and bought the hard drive and got it before the Chromebook. Thank you. I wasn't 100 on how to take the bottom off and there is no ifixit teardowns or anything i could find for this laptop.
    It's such a beautiful laptop, been my daily driver for 2 years now. The track pad started acting up and what i found last night is the ribbon cable connection at the main board is right next to the heat spreader seems to be where the issue is. I reseated the ribbon and it stopped failing 2-4 minutes into using it. I've added a layer of tape to the back to thicken it a bit and hopefully that cures the issue.

    It was exactly as you said.
    Very easy!
    And with much expanded disk storage, this Chromebook with Linux developer mode is now a nice dev machine I can use at work.

    Thanks for the teardown and upgrade details! You have probably already heard this, but taking off the thermal pad on the new drive would be best and will not hurt anything. Just use a little alcohol to clean it after. I would love to see some closeup pictures of the inside if you ever take it apart again. I am thinking of getting one of these, so this upgrade would be on my list.

    Nice guide,, thumbs up.. I really really REALLY wish the SGC had 16GB, I am sure the RAM is soldered on though. If you could get me the model of the ram chip(s) and or a close up of the ram that would be awesome, it looks covered so I could not see. I'll end up opening when my drive arrives anyway and I'll poke around. I doubt I will attempt anything crazy with a new machine though. Just 8GB is barely ok, especially with running VMs, 16GB would be a dream upgrade. Maybe someone will attempt it. If anyone does, shoot me a PM.

Some will render nicely and scale correctly and others have issues. There is no way of knowing unless trying first. So far I have been able to use almost all the applications that I use from the Play Store except for Box. But the main type of Android apps seem to load for me. • @MrHG78
      @MrHG78  2 года назад +1

      Well… the battery is sort of an issue not lasting what would be today’s standard of 8 hours +. I can get between 4 go 6 hours depending on what I am doing. If doing just web browsing with video watching it can get close to 5 hours or so. If just doing work stuff including email I can get close to 5.5 hours. If I am watching videos or doing some task that are heavy its around 4.5 hours or so. I personally don’t see this a problem for me, because I really don’t sit and use a computer for more then maybe a couple hours at one time. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @MrHG78
      @MrHG78  3 года назад

      The RAM is not upgradeable, it is solder on the board. Would have been nice but in order to keep the Galaxy Chromebook this thin, they had to solder the memory. Depending on what you are using the Galaxy Chromebook, if watching videos, you can get at least 5 hours at 40% brightness. Web browsing again depends on how demanding the website is, and how many tabs open you can get up 5 or 6 hours. About the heat, it does get pretty hot but I usually have it on a desk or table rarely is it on my lap. So the heat is not an issue for me. It only heats up if you have a lot going on.
