How I have heard people use this scripture is to “bind Satan and the demons,” then “loose the blessings and power of God.” Still not a biblical concept, as we cannot loose the blessings and power of God. Thanks Hank.

With all due respect to those who know the meaning of Greek and Hebrew first and foremost scripture must be read in context and not the other way around. If you understand the Old Testament or the Jewish way of using binding and loosing you will grasp what Christ is saying to His disciples. Furthermore the New Testament was not written yet, therefore this should be understood from grammatical and cultural standpoint and not only what the Greek and Hebrew literally means.

Same principle from the video applies. Binding demons and spirits of antichrist is part and parcel of the deliverance model of spiritual warfare. Hank is very critical of the deliverance model of spiritual warfare. Hank encourages Christians to develop spiritual disciplines in dealing with spiritual warfare.

Where, in the context, is church discipline?
When an evil spirit is bound, a person is loosed.
Just because Jesus gave Peter/the 12 this power doesn't mean the power was passed on perpetually to the church today.

@James Peek ~ Jesus taught about binding and loosing in the context of confronting the brother who sins against another brother. See Matthew 18:15-19. Jesus also says that binding and loosing is part of what Peter will be doing in building the church and carrying out the Lord’s will in Matthew 16:18-19..

Thanks for your response. I mostly agree with your conclusion. Keys unlock and lock doors. For Peter to have these keys may mean that his vocalization of faith were the keys. Peter's preaching of the gospel was the keys. Whoever confessed as Peter did gained entry and whoever denied the gospel was locked out.
Anyway, good video. I've been exploring other views. It can be a confusing passage.

The word bind in the greek is deo ..meaning the bind to wrap up or to come together. Loose in the greek means luo..meaning to divorce to be free from ...when u pray God bind the power of the enemy in my life u are actually praying God wrap up or come together the power of the enemy in my life. I by no means think im a theologian or whatever but im telling u you should be praying God loose the enemys power from my life. Study it. Jesus loosed the woman in luke from her infirmity he didnt bind the infirmity he said bind my precepts onto your heart...again saying he wants u to be wrapped up in his word. So i can say lord i bind ur word onto my heart and i bind health to my body in Jesus name but if u say i loose health ur actually divorcing health ...get it?. U have it backwards. Its a very serious matter .

      Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
      Isaiah 58:6
6 “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
