  • Giant Mud Crabs can be caught in prolific numbers in the mangrove swamps of Northern Australia, often resembling an infestation of cockroaches as they compete for food. I have never eaten a cockroach but if they taste as delicious as Mud Crabs, sign me up for a feed! Thanks for watching. #returnoutdoors #mudcrabs

    Wow! I haven't seen so many undesirable crabs in one place outside of brothels. Glad you got a couple of keepers.

    That’s one healthy creek Brad, the keeper ratio is a bit low but a feed is a feed. Thanks again for sharing with us another method of getting a few Crabs. 👍🏼👍🏼

    Alot of work for 2 nice crabs Brad. Good to see there's plenty of crabs in the creek still. Funny they did look like cockroaches running around everywhere. 🦀🦀🦀 You definately go above and beyond with your videos. 👍

    Sick video brad. Heading out to maggie this weekend. What bait do you recommend for trout and other good eating species around there. And where would you recommend chasing makkies near maggie and with what lure

      Can't go wrong with the humble pilchard for bait! To catch a mackerel try trolling a Flatz Ratz or cast a metal slice at any of the shipping pilons. Watch out for shipping while fishing in and around the channel! Let me know how you go with the fishing. Cheers, Brad👍

      Went out to Maggie yesterday but struggled a bit. Caught a few good makkys but no luck on trout or anything. THey were biting but we either couldn't hook them or we got snagged on rocks. Any tips. Were getting some nice bites just couldn't get them

    G'day mate. I must say that you are a brave man walking in that grass just in your ' Jimmy Wongs ". Nice pair of crabs out of all of those crabs. They're obviously breeding well. I was thinking on that last pot, one foot wrong and you'll be arse up on that mud. Its such unforgiving mongrel stuff.

      I whole heartedly agree! I need to be mindful of what I'm doing the whole time to avoid a dangerous situation! If I was to fall down that steep bank, who knows what's waiting at the bottom for an easy feed! I greatly appreciate your comment. Take care, Brad👍

      Yes - I am certain there are snakes in the grass. I do keep a very good watch where I am placing my feet. Snakes on the river bank Crocs in the water, it certainly wise to be respectful of this environment. Cheers, Brad👍

    Yes! They are to be called Cockroaches , but we eat them as delicacy and they clean out scraps from other species including humans! Please give them some respect as Yabbies. Cheers.
    Ps : Never heard they are called Cockroaches down the South .. like Melbourne or Adelaide! =))

      Too true, mud crabs do eat all the left over scraps from humans and other species just like a cockroach! You have now heard them humorously referred to as the cockroach of the creek for the first time here - no disrespect intended to the eating quality of the mud crab. Cheers, Brad👍

I always enjoy your videos twinkle toes 😀👍 oops Brad 😂 being from Perth catching Blue Swimmer Crabs 🦀 I always keep my toes away from their claws !     gday mate well two is better than none blue swimmer season has just started here and it looks like it will be a good season the catches havent been to bad on the peninsulas so hopwefully that will equate to the metro areas as well as summer rolls in dont blame youfor nt going down the bank to many big toothed bitey creatures around

      Yes, I noticed my hands were shaky in the video. I was puffing pretty hard after pulling those pots up the bank and running around shifting the camera!

      There are plenty of viewers waiting for your expert knowledge on cooking mud crabs. Do not hold back on sharing your repertoire of recipes. I guess you will have to catch one before you have to worry about cooking it!😉😂

I guess youll have to gather the courage and strength to be bothered enough, before you have worry about cooking it! ;) :D

      How is it a waste? The last crab I boiled was consumed down to the swimmers, if you are inferring that everyone needs to be a Michelin star chef and do Singapore crab, I think you're missing the point of these videos.
