Actually, Luigi's not actually that much thinner than Mario. He appears so because he has a longer head and is taller. But they're actually the same weight. Not fat or anything, but average/ideal. Luigi has rather thick arms and legs like Mario does. He also has the same round shape body like him. I do agree he looks more athletic than Mario does though.

It is ridiculous that Sega has eliminated the Miis from this game, since many people underestimate them for being simple avatars, they deserve more prominence, they must also have more interaction and dialogues with all the characters of Mario and Sonic as if you really felt inside the game. Personally I will not buy this game PD: I wish that in a future Mario and Sonic game in the Olympic games, there is a category where you can customize your Mii with voice type options, customize celebration animations, joy, sadness, anger, running or walking, your special attack and its own static, as well as different and another option where it divides the type of gender if it is male or female with their respective characteristics and animations, one where you can choose the type of skills of the type: All-Round, Speed, Power , Technique, and customize them to your liking.
Fair warning; I can't help but write a crapton of stuff about this after watching a lot of real-life gymnastics at the World/Olympic level. Too bad that since this is based on the Men's discipline of Artistic Gymnastics Floor, there aren't any new musical remixes for the characters to perform to, whereas in London 2012 and Rio 2016 they had 90-second music tracks that could feasibly be used in an actual, real-life Rhythmic Gymnastics or a Women's Artistic Floor exercise which incorporates music into the performances (and in Sochi 2014, the 155-second tracks for figure skating are within regulations to be used for short programs in skating, or even Group Rhythmic Gymnastics routines with a few seconds cut). Though I suppose it fits the home demographic since Team Japan in real-life was traditionally very good on men's floor (and Men's Artistic Gymnastics in general) for several decades. That aside, I was really impressed with how they incorporated the range of non-acrobatic/tumbling elements to fit certain characters for the balance section in the middle; presses to handstands or planches as done by the male characters and Y scales by the female characters are all genuine elements in men's floor exercise, and I hope they were as entertaining to develop as I thought it was to witness (I thought seeing Bowser do a planche was as hilarious as it was fitting and pure genius). When I saw how some of the dismount/"big finish" sections had circling the left control stick as much as you can, I thought if there was one thing they could add it'd be a section on circling/flairs which the moves I feel a lot of people would recognize from breakdancing. It wouldn't even be entirely out of the ordinary for the girls since mounting the balance beam by doing flairs is an actual thing that they can compete. Granted the event probably runs long as it is so oh well. Of course, I'm not asking them to make everything in a video game true to form to the actual thing, but as an enthusiast I thought it was really nice to see a lot of inspiration still taken from the real sport especially one so technical and specific, amongst the dynamic acrobatics that you may as well let loose with since it's a video game and you can. tl;dr as a gymfan I thought it was satisfyingly faithful

Even the 2012 edition on the 3DS had six gymnastics events which honestly might've been excessive but gives a better idea of how it's fallen in subsequent titles. And now for Tokyo 2020 on the Switch it's still a single event, and still mostly reduced to button inputs. Though I guess it's probably hard to twirl and swing a joycon everywhere with one hand and also press buttons, whereas the Wiimotes were built around this. As far as content goes I'd also hope it gets the Tennis Aces/Splatoon treatment but agree that it's probably going to get the Super Mario Party treatment.

And for Figure Skating 2014 I love that they added Pairs but it's also the most underwhelming since the biggest issue for that event if the character roster being 16 Male and 4 Female so you get very small options for one side. I also find it disappointing the girls themselves didn't get special outfits for Figure Skating with the glittering and sparkles since they could at least use the Leotards and add mini-skirts and decorations on to make them more like Skating dresses but no still use default winter coats.

About halfway through the roster, i realized they basically used the same routine between the men and woman for everyone. Granted, I'm not familiar with how events like these work, but the small changes to each characters technique are very miniscule.
Firstly, the developers hired professional gymnasts and use motion capture technology to record a rhythm session. Then, the animators added the prerecorded movements to the characters’ animation. Next, they had to manually revise the applied characters’ movements to look up for any errors and adapt the movements to the character’s features. At least that’s what I imagine is the process.
I really wish there was a gymnastics game where you customized your own routine. :/ Also, it seems like they only use floor exercise in MASATOG, why not vault?

My problem is is the button mode in Gymnastics. Whenever i press the L button on my Pro controller it never seems to work and it always counts as a miss, while all the other buttons seem to work alright. Am I doing something wrong? Is it the remote I'm using or something? I'd appreciate it if someone knows what's going on with it. Has anyone else ever had this problem with the buttons not working right in events? It happened to me a few times on them when I use the Pro controller when I clearly know I pressed the right buttons but it counts as a miss. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me out.

I liked her gymnastics leotard from Rio more than her surfing pants. The guest characters have to be made playable in all events. We've been stuck with the same roster for a decades as the series go back and forth between the Summer and Winter Olympics with just some events changing. Every Summer game has 100m. Both Winter games had snowboarding, ice skating, etc. Won't it be great to play as new characters for those events? And now that every character change their attire for events, I would have loved to see how the guests dress for each event. I want Rosalina's gymnastics leotard back, and I would like to see her participate in her minidress from the tennis games.

My problem is is the button mode in Gymnastics. Whenever i press the L button on my Pro controller it never seems to work and it always counts as a miss, while all the other buttons seem to work alright. Am I doing something wrong? Is it the remote I'm using or something? I'd appreciate it if someone knows what's going on with it. Has anyone else ever had this problem with the buttons not working right in events? It happened to me a few times on them when I use the Pro controller when I clearly know I pressed the right buttons but it counts as a miss. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me out.

I don’t know, I kinda like her in surfing. Surfing fits her mellow, and chill attitude to me.
Come to think of it, ALL the guest characters should be available for ALL events.
I liked her gymnastics leotard from Rio more than her surfing pants. The guest characters have to be made playable in all events. We've been stuck with the same roster for a decades as the series go back and forth between the Summer and Winter Olympics with just some events changing. Every Summer game has 100m. Both Winter games had snowboarding, ice skating, etc. Won't it be great to play as new characters for those events? And now that every character change their attire for events, I would have loved to see how the guests dress for each event. I want Rosalina's gymnastics leotard back, and I would like to see her participate in her minidress from the tennis games.
