This is a race car run in the One Lap of America Race by a group of Ford engineers. It's a 2003 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, with a modified ~2003 Mustang Cobra powerplant.
+Bennet Mathias just because you can not drift a 4000lb car doesn’t mean it is too heavy..if you can not do it doesn’t mean it can not be done because I don’t know how well you can see but this crown vic is drifting lmfao
E Riv I'm actually blind. In all seriousness though, I think we both know that nobody in Formula Drift would pick a Panther Platform car to drift. I love my Crown Vic, she can sort of drift, but it's not a great car for pro drifting.
@@bennettfriesen33 actually heavier cars can be more predictable than lighter cars in drifting because of the more obvious weight transferring. I know this comment is 2 years old just wanted to drop in
@SippRider89 Wrong. Bondurant built 18 CVPI's modified with DOHC 4.6's and T-45 transmissions. they also had Cobra gauge clusters and a custom front bumper cover with round "cobra style" foglights.
I wish he would have run the speaker wires over so the announcer would shut up. I love how when its pointing at you, you can hear the supercharger whine and when its pointing away from you, you can hear the 4V roar.
Relax there, from what I last saw, the vic is still out there in 2010 with the same panther platform. Although, it's only available from Ford's Fleet Vehicle Line like the ones made in the past few years. It's only available to police dept's and along with a version for taxi use.
This is sweet! I spent 6 years with the local police department, and I always said that someone should have come along and put a SVT Cobra engine in a Crown Victoria, and saved it as a pursuit car or Chief's car. It was either that, or take the Mercury Marauder and give it a police package. Or take a Mercury Marauder and put a SVT engine in. The Crown Vic is such a venerable design that has the potential for alot of customizations, unfortunately, it doesn't get enough praise.
Last year, the Calgary police picked up around 50 new Charger SRT's for their fleet. It's really cool to see muscle cars with steel brush guards patrolling the streets. Calgary has a growing street racing problem, so it's nice to see them bring back the muscle cars.
That was some amazing driving. It would be great if there was some more information somewhere about this car. I used to own a 03 Cobra and I just bought a Crown Vic and Im wondering if the Cobra engine will bolt right up to the 4r70w and what was involved in swapping engines. I know that with the twin screw kennebell that these engines are capable of 700 rwhp.
You can still have a blow of valve with a supercharger. BOV's and are purely to ensure the life and the integity of the plumbing systems and prevent back flow of boost from backing into the compressor (compression surge). Most superchargers don't really use a BOV because they use a Bypass valve and recycles boost back into the front of the compression unit. It is advantageous to use a BV because while response is good in a supercharger, they generally aren't as efficient as a turbo.
Yeah, that's the same engine that went in the Marauder isn't it?, cuz the Marauder if I remember correctly came with the 4.6L Mustang Cobra engine, all the 4.6L engines sported 32 valves whether that engine was in the GT or the Cobra, and the SVT team were the ones building those engines right?
Rank certainly holds flow, that's for sure. I know with our department, only Lieutenant and higher were given their own private vehicles that they were allowed to take home if necessary. And only the Traffic Division has the custom cars in the department; recently, they just got two unmarked Dodge Chargers that are specifically assigned to the two most veteran officers with that Division.
@Steez420 Actully you don't need a blow off valve. Diesel trucks do not use blow off valves, you can, butthat's why they take so long to spool down. Import turbo's yes you do need a blow off valve.
Wow. Listen to the supercharger. Music to my ears. If all police cars were that fast there would be NO crime involving cars. No one would be able to get away!
@randumbvids11 no he never went to the one lap of america. he was laid off in 09. he was the launch manager for the 07 GT500 when he was part of SVT. he was one of the top guys for the 1995 and 2000 Cobra R's, and worked with the 93.
i was talking about the 08 charger R/T at my dad's dept. so far my bro's dept has no probs yet at least from what ive heard. but the one at my dad's dept is the one that burns oil and has the panels falling off.
thats why you have seen police impalas, chargers, magnums, out there. they are testing the diffrent cars to see which one can replace the crown vic. i think they are going with the charger.
Incredible police car. This gives me an idea that new police interceptors use Ford Mustang engines. Maybe add on a superchager. Perhaps as fast as a Ferrari. I am open-minded to these ideas.
the falcon and crown vic are so different and hard to compare, made by different people in different divisions of ford for different purposes...are there even mustangs in Austrialia?
Nope, U.S. Police Departments rallied together and spoke to Ford to continue production. It's not for sure, but apparently the Crown Vic isn't going to be discontinued
@PinkPanther094 You are right but, instead of the SOHC, its the DOHC. Its should be as hard, it bolts right up to the trans mission. THe hardest theing is to track down a wiring harness for a Mercury Marauder , Cobra or Mach 1. type in(4v crown vic), on here. He has done it to his Blue 98 P71. He has info for you.
2003 crown vic with a highly modified 2003 Mustang Cobra drivetrain. It was custom built buy Ford and crushed after the this event. The engine was donated to a tech school.
They only made them with autos... but this has a Mustang Cobra engine swapped in. I still believe this was an auto trans but I might be wrong. You can hold the brakes and push on gas and get similar effects with an auto.
not bad for a crown vic. i own an '89 and they have a light back end even though they are huge. it's hard to lay any rubber much less drift. plus the e-brake is on the floor with a hand release under the dash so you can't really use that to help drift to great...all that to say nice vid
@Freshtodeath2000 agreed, ive been on both ends of the cop car. and granted i WILlo curse them sometimes. BUT have the utmost respect for the good ones
@7m28 And that's why their issuing H/W Troopers brand new Challengers, Chargers and Vettes. Oregon purchased 43 fully packaged 2008 Chargers at a base price of $30,000 each. Yet they cant spend $20,000 on a beefed up engine and stick it in a old Vic because as you say it would cost to much to be put on the streets... Hmm smart thinking.
@bigdog5986 ok well lets break this down a bit. That car is pushing out over 600 hp. That means there are probably a lot of parts in it to give it that kind of power. Power that it uses to do common cop stuff like pit maneuvers and crashing his car into other cars to stop them from moving. Im sure they spent a lot of money to get it taht kind of power. how expensive do you think its gonna be to repair it each time it pits another car or crashes? thats why this wont be on the streets.
Actually, being a ford V8, it's EASIER and cheaper, just because it's a crown victoria doesn't mean you have to shop for parts labeled for a Ford Crown Victoria. Also, the only major differences in the police package engine and standard v8 is the heads, throttlebodies, and exhaust.
its amazing how those hugh cars even corner, although the guy driving it is a professional, i mean you would have to be to get that kind of performance.
Actually it's not a roots blower, it's a Lysholm (twin-screw) sitting on top of a 4.6L-4V 03 Cobra engine that was slightly modified. Oh, and we're not cops....we're Ford engineers. I do miss that car, though. D.
@cheanamean do a mass air conversion, intake manifold swap for an explorer intake or a cobra intake ported and polished, or slap a blower on it, youll be good trust me
@Alex0Dial 250 hp to 3858 lbs of car isn't a very good power/weight ratio. I own crown victoria police interceptor and the one thing i think it needs the most is at least another 75 horsepower.
Supercharger/Turbo is all down to preference and budget but a basic supercharge install will in my opinion provide better driveability than your basic turbo installation..... If you are going to big money on variable turbos, twin turbos etc.. then of course you can get drivability.
Just wondering, would the department allow a custom swap? My buddy's dad talks about needing more power, and I said if the department will allow a Mustang engine, I'll help him with it.
That car was a cash pit... it was modified by a crew of guys from the Ford SVT team and ford was a heavy sponsor... and then, for liability reasons, ford had it destroyed after the race was over.... but odds are that it was a manual but again, I just can't remember.
on top of that, they're very easy to tune ( bigger turbo already gives you about 350-400 hp if you also get a new intercooler and some minor mods you can get even more, and that from a 2.0litre engine..) if modded properly this car will beat basically anything and that at such low prices! this car has won almost every rally event in europe in the 90's.. search for lancia delta integrale on youtube
Whoever was holding the camera is one talented guy. Its nice to see that vic drift without the video shaking.
FORD:

Duramaxes
Dat supercharger though
the cop doesnt even have to turn on his sirens, just rev it up a little and let the supercharger whine do the work xD
my dad used to work with this guy back when my dad worked for SVT in Dearborn. i've seen this car in person, and it was incredible.
That was some nice car control. The crown vic might be a better Ford platform for drifting haha
Trust me, they're too heavy to do any sort of good drifting.
+Bennet Mathias just because you can not drift a 4000lb car doesn’t mean it is too heavy..if you can not do it doesn’t mean it can not be done because I don’t know how well you can see but this crown vic is drifting lmfao

@@bennettfriesen33 looks pretty good to me
Imagine if all cop cars were modded like this there would be no getting away ever and people would shit their pants at the thought of speeding LOL!
Damn.... now that is some very, very fine drifting skills there...
wow crazy power and that driver did a great job handling it! :)
@SippRider89
Wrong. Bondurant built 18 CVPI's modified with DOHC 4.6's and T-45 transmissions. they also had Cobra gauge clusters and a custom front bumper cover with round "cobra style" foglights.
dam, that was sweet. i love the crown vics with their 4.6 v8s. some guy put a triton v10 in one. i knew they had drifting potential.
I am a GM and MOPAR guy but i really love this car!!
absolutely beautiful controlled power slide.
I wish he would have run the speaker wires over so the announcer would shut up. I love how when its pointing at you, you can hear the supercharger whine and when its pointing away from you, you can hear the 4V roar.
All I can say is holy crap!!! that thing looks insane!!!! I cant imagine what it would do for a 0-60 time!!!(probably pretty dang quick Im sure!!!)

Man, I wish I had that as my cruiser! Looks like your having a good time out there.
@CountryBoyz1213 you should recognize the supercharger whine if you have an 03 cobra
Rank certainly holds flow, that's for sure. I know with our department, only Lieutenant and higher were given their own private vehicles that they were allowed to take home if necessary. It is actually called an svt cobra, but it basically is a mustang with minor changes in the body, and a 4.6l DOHC supercharged v8.
@Steez420 Actully you don't need a blow off valve. Diesel trucks do not use blow off valves, you can, butthat's why they take so long to spool down. Import turbo's yes you do need a blow off valve.

awesome control on the monster.
Love the sound of the Supercharger...
@glendale85303 Nope that, my friend, is the sound of a SUPERCHARGED 4.6L FORD V8 FROM A 2003 FORD MUSTANG COBRA!
@CountryBoyz1213
That's a supercharger you hear whining away. Turbochargers dont make gear noise.
Must be a great driver to perform such a well-controlled drift in a heavier car.
EagleKammback seems to knows the truth, long live the American V8!! Love Crown Vics!
NICE! I can hear that blower well.
the falcon and crown vic are so different and hard to compare, made by different people in different divisions of ford for different purposes...are there even mustangs in Austrialia?
Wouldn't want to run from that car/driver combo. Nice to hear the police using a blower to keep up!
Nope, U.S. Police Departments rallied together and spoke to Ford to continue production. It's not for sure, but apparently the Crown Vic isn't going to be discontinued

Because that acronym isn't tired out or over-used... way to be original, genius.

very cool, all patrol cars should have this amount of power lol
