Everyone: DEATH, CHAOS, CONFUSION, HELL IS ON EARTH
James: Yeah it's a little bit spicy
James: tastes sweet
Right? That was crazy
He had a pokerface the whole time, the madman. Props to him! :)
Yaaassss!!!! I loved him!!!
He is like my son-in-law. Everyone else complains it's too spicy, V just asks if they could add extra chilli next time (this is African food which features a lot of chillis) as it's not quite spicy enough.
Everyone: suffering and desperately throwing back the remedies.
James: calmly explaining the flavour profiles of the chocolate and peppers.
As someone who is very bad with spicy food, I am amazed how calm he is.
Honestly pretty impressed 😂 I can’t even eat Shin ramen without dying 😂
There's only one other person who I've seen do that.
Emmy.
Watch her tackle the One Chip Challenge like a minor inconvenience and read the funny comments regarding her unreaction.
[…she was crying and all but she _very calmly_ explained it was due to the spicyness, not the pain, like, how]
He was amazing, i dont known how he managed it
@@nodezsh I love Emmy!
Most of the family was like "It felt like Satan took a blow torch to my face then used a cheese grater on it." The one son was like "Oh yeah. I feel that. It was like a butterfly landed on my finger on a cool spring morning."
The whole refined spice connoisseur giving detailed notes vs everyone else being like "oh god, give me the milk" was surprisingly hilarious. I think I know who the spice-lover is in your family!
As a researcher myself ,I find it very impressive that you had all the equipment necessary and it was a very responsible experiment with pain relievers like milk and oil. I also noticed the boys had on a blood pressure measuring machine while they ate the spicy chocolates in case something goes wrong. Too good. I'm sick of irresponsible youtubers trying harmful chillies just for entertainment but you show your true passion towards food science
I completely agree! I don't usually watch videos of people trying crazy spicy things cause it seems a big silly to me but I knew Ann would do it sensibly and tastefully! I love that there's so much education in this too and she took the time to make sure everybody was safe and didn't pressure anyone to do anything they didn't want to. Ann's videos just can't be matched ❤
Well, and the love for her family.
That’s why we love Ann 😂. I remember years ago people literally put their kids through spicy challenges and the kid was literally suffering……
Couldn’t have said it better myself 👏🏽
What was the blood pressure machine for?
It's unnecessarily hilarious to have James just vibing with it and having fun and then you cut to his brother who is literally just *dying*
It's my favorite part, I'm completely rolling with laughter
Just drinking all of the milk despite Ann's explanation that you need to swill it in your mouth lol
@@PrettyPinkPeacock He was dying! He didn't have time to grasp that information lol
Just absolutely dying
I know, it was so funny to see James saying "just a tingle" then you see his brother chugging milk and saying he is on fire. 😂
Commenting because of my contract to Dave. Not only does he eat all the wierd and/or burnt stuff served to him through this channel. He goes the whole mile and, even though he hesitates for a second, stays true to his commitment. What a champ!
LoL Same 😂
Based dad
also complying with the contract. thats all i gotta say about that. (:
We have a contract, Dave. Good work all of you!
Same. I by accident ate “hot dogs” that had 1,5 million Scoville chili in them. That was an … interesting experience. I did not look as pretty and composed as these guys.
FYI: Birds lack receptors for capsaicin. So, adding some hot pepper to your bird feeder will keep the squirrels and bears away but not affect the birds.
What about Deer? In the area of Canada I live, we get tons of Deer and now that a local herd has discovered my easy to get into bird feeder...I can't keep them away😅😂 If the hot pepper works I'm gonna be living my best bird life
@@laurathiele9591 Good luck. Not sure, but I imagine deer can appreciate a good, spicy meal just like humans.
That's why chilis evolved capsaicin. So birds would eat them & distribute their seeds but mammals would stay away!
@@TimBurbank237 Evolution never occurs to achieve a purpose. But that is a good way to remember it.
@@mikemondano3624 Of course, I suppose what I mean is that natural selection found that to be the most effective route. Then humans come along & decide that they like it. Chilis must've been like "Damn it, these mammals like capsaicin... wait a minute, they're breeding us, making us stronger, clearing ecosystems to plant us en masse. That's better than birds I guess!"
Ann finally makes a video that doesn't require 50 cakes, or cleaning her microwave over and over, or weeks long experiments.
Yet she still finds a way to torture herself. I love her.
And Dave too! xD
Yes! 😆 it's my favourite
For the first time, Dave suffered with actual decent food, not some hack lab experiment. Poor guy... But yes, this tine Ann got to experience it too. I'm sorry for them and grateful to all of them for having gone through this torture for our evil viewing pleasure.
I bet there was some different cleaning to be done that night/the next morning though 🤣 🤣
I mean how could you not. Always such good videos!
I love that Ann didn’t let her youngest eat more than the first chocolate, it may seem like a small thing but it’s refreshing to see someone on youtube put safety before views!
Of course she wouldn’t you can tell she’s a good person.
True, although with hindsight she should have let him try the second one which ended up being less spicy 😂
Correct me if I´m wrong, but she did it just so she isn´t cruel to her youngest kid, not because spice is actually dangerous (for kids), right?
edit: Nevermind, I just saw the end of the video
Facts
I've always appreciated how respectfully and thoughtfully Ann includes her sons in the videos. They are (or at least were, James is so big!) children and should have their privacy respected. I appreciate that they are never the main focus of the video while still including them because it's nice to see you interact with your family in such a wholesome way as opposed to family channels that exploit their children for views. Sorry for the long comment, I just really appreciate such a responsible and respectful parent.
i like how everybody is freaking out and that one kid is just like "its getting a bit spicy"
Ah yes, That One Kid Reardon. I'll never understand why Ann named him that.
Every time he’s just saying the same thing
i love how you've got the one son who's just like ann, you've got dave who's like "I SUFFER FOR YOU PEOPLE" and then you've got the other son who literally cannot feel pain apparently 😂
"-Is blocking your nose helping with the heat?
-[chuckles] I don't know, does looking like an idiot help?"
Dave is a mood 24/7 😂
Honoring the contract by leaving a comment
😂
16:10 "It's always okay to say no"
Ann being an absolute blessing. Always lovely to see someone reinforcing bodily autonomy and consent.
I agree. It applies in more situations than people realise, like food challenges or consuming alcohol.
Yes! I liked to see that too
I would’ve said no at the *slightest* bit of discomfort
Yes, unlike certain governmental bodies
The difference between your kids' reactions is so STARK... One is just so relaxed about everything even when he's obviously in pain and the other one is extremely expressive- This also gave some good information so thank you 👍I had no idea OIL and SUGAR WATER could help?
Repeated exposure does grow you tolerance to this stuff, I enjoy spicy foods but I haven't had the luxury to eat it frequently enough to gain a better tolerance.
I was at this at this sandwich type restaurant yesterday and I noticed that wasabi ranch was an option they had for sauces, I of course chose it and most definitely going to choose it the next time i go there. Wasabi is a spice type different from peppers but it's still intense.
@@Im-BAD-at-satireIt's a kind of horseradish, and true Wasabi can only be grown in certain areas in Japan, where the soil is saturated with the decomposed old plants for hundreds of years.
Apparently, it makes a huge difference to what you'd usually get in the West. Not as intensely spicy initially and a lot more flavourful.
I nearly got in a fist fight with my buddy (not uncommon in drunken, heated arguments; we never let a physical fight ruin our friendship though) because I stupidly thought it came from some kind of pea-like vegetable, because of the little snacks you can get lol. We just settled it with a Google search instead...
Posting this for Dave, since apparently, I'm involved in some kind of bargain. I like spicy food, but spicy for me is those Korean spicy ramens that weigh in around 8000 Scoville units. I would never even dream of trying anything that says ghost chili, scorpion, or Carolina Reaper.
i tried the mild version of those ramen noodles and couldn't handle it, i don't know how people casually eat them 😭
@@fbidumbbeea great trick is cracking an egg in! A lot of Koreans do that, half the mix, add vinegar and other veggies, etc. I would add two eggs sometimes when my spice tolerance was lower. Lol.
Everyone: *dying*
James: "Yeah I can feel a slight tingling"
That remind me our high-school trip where we had a really nice Chinese take-out next to the place we stayed in, and the boys watching me finishing the spicy beef they didn't manage.
@@Nixx0912 I'm on the other side.
I actually like a little bit of spice but I don't really handle it well.

Came here to say the same thing. I feel he's just showing off
I love that everyone else was like "AARRGHH IT'S SO HOT I'M DYING" and one of Ann's sons was like "Hmm, yeah, I guess it's a little spicy".
LOLLL right?
that guy there is Ironman.
exactly, like what the hell?? XD
yo same pfp?
Ann’s eyes bugging out every time it gets spicy is so funny 😂😂😂
Sadly I smiled ea time the focus was on Ann
James was particularly entertaining to watch. Largely unbothered
the cuts between James being totally chill and everyone else freaking out looked like i was watching an episode of the office lmao
It was rather hilarious to see him so stone faced not bothered much until the end.
I thought James was full of crap and putting a brave face on at first, but the further the video went on it became fairly clear that it was no act. That boy has some substantial heat tolerance.
He’s literally just sitting there chilling (chilli-ing?) while his dad and brother are literally turning red
we eat a lot of heat in our house and one of my kids has autism, his pain threshold is a lot higher than anyone else's, and James reminded me of my son's chill vibe while everyone else is dying
I'm really glad Ann tapped out on the last one. I have a similar level of tolerance to spicy food (almost none) and was worried about her!
Ann about the boys: makes sure they only participate if they want to, keeps it age-appropriate, researchers the health concerns, etc.
Also Ann: gets absolutely bodied by the spicy chocolate.
Humans are weird. “Hey this plant really doesn’t want anything eating it and triggers extreme pain in anything that does.” “Cool let’s make snacks out of it!”
Not quite. It triggers pain in anything other than its targeted client. They want birds to eat the fruit, fly off, and pass the seeds undigested.
@@JohnDlugosz Point still kinda stands..We eat things even if they legit hurt to eat. We’re weird creatures.
Well, a lot of people are less sensitive to spicy foods, and many people like the taste of chillies, myself included.
I don't find chillies to be painful, but too much can get uncomfortable, however I love the taste of chillies, so I love to put chilli in a lot of things.
While chilis do activate the body's pain receptors, because pain and pleasure are so closely linked in the brain, it can also activate the body's pleasure receptors when eating it. This is the same reason why some people are into BDSM; they derive pleasure from ceratin levels of pain
I garintee it was one guy hungry or unknowingly ait it ...then went back to camp and was like I bet you can't eat one...tail of every intro to hot food....those saying they like it from the start I bet eat spicy foods from the start too as a little one
I tried eating something with 250.000 scoville today and it was the most awful thing I have done in a while and will never repeat again. But it reminded me of this video again so I came to rewatch it and I can't even imagine how bad the last few chocolates must have been-- thank you for going through this for research
I had an uncle eat a whole Carolina reaper for $20. It doesn't make the act better, it just makes it worse, when you realize he is a grown man who did this on a bet from work. He came home and suffered through the single worst bouts of stomach cramps and side effects of the running Trotsky kind that kept him up most of the night. My Aunt made him camp in the bathroom with some milk and a Pepto bismol. They didn't end up going to a medical professional (she is a nurse thankfully, and put him on some monitoring for safety sake), but he's avoided peppers, other than some Tabasco and black pepper, since.
I frequently "like" videos, but I rarely "share" them. I did both for this video because you guys deserve it for tolerating the spiciness.
I love how everyone looks like they're suffering from torture but James like "🤷♂️ it's nice". You can definitely see who loves spicy food in the fam.
lol
Guess we know who's going to get all the leftover chilli chocolate 😂
It's not a question of him liking spicy food. He simply has a very high tolerance to spicy foods.
@@thecatatemyhomeworkrelated things. High tolerance to spicy foods comes from repeated exposure. If he's choosing to consume spicy food regularly, it's a safe bet he likes the stuff.
@@TheBluestflamingosI'm gonna say in most cases yes but some people naturally have more resistance to spicy foods

James: ya there's probably some heat to it
Of course who from this family do you think they will put on Hot Ones one day lol
Mazel tov to Dave on his novel!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching you turn your whole family pink. The little one was lucky; sometimes it's good to be the baby of the family.
Ann is always a smart and careful Queen and we all collectively love it. Poor Dave took one for the team and we love him for doing that service every time.

Okay, I was going to make this comment anyway, but now I'm especially doing it for Dave: Whoever does the captions for these are as on fire as those chilis! Thank you so much for taking the time to not only make actual ones, but for adding fun into them 🥰
Good job Dave and kids! “Its not spicy at all” and immediately coughing followed by “that’s unpleasant, NOW it’s hitting” plus the cutaways to the other son just chilling was so so funny to me.
Everyone else: *lowkey crying*
James: yeah, it's fine, a little spicy, I'll just vibe for a bit and let you know if it gets any worse
As a former chocolate R&D tech, James has a bright future as a taste-tester. Good clarity of description, James!
And he was good dealing with spice too. I really liked his way of describing what he felt, very precise.
I came here to make this comment lol his description was on point it made me understand how it may taste/feel if I tried them since I love/tolerate spicy foods pretty decently lol 😂 not gonna lie I’ve cried eating some things though😝

Truly amazing! I love the reaction of your eldest boy he was so calm while everyone else was doing
I love that you took care of your boys to have blood pressure machines on them and to also not let your youngest son participate past the first one. I see so many reckless things on youtube and I'm just glad that the care you take in debunking fake/harmful cooking hacks you also take to protect your children while filming an unrelated video.
Yes! Safety is important!
Seriously though, can she be my mom? xD She has such a good heart.
I love how she's monitoring her kids' blood pressure. So cute. Ann is probably the best mom.
1:12 Always doing her research and looking out for her kids :) Ann is such a superstar mum! ❤️
As an environmental scientist we met with a village in Ivory Coast once and part of their custom was to pass around two bowls, one with cola nut (mild stimulant but takes a bit to kick in, nice bitter taste but not for everyone) and this red, leafy looking paste. Well, I didn't know what it was but I mimicked the senior anthropologist and took a lot. Wow. That tablespoon amount was a lot of chili. Great method since you know people will be awake for your meeting but very glad I spent time in India before then.
Love this channel, well informed content and seemingly great people. Well done for being responsible content producers.
This is such a good example of a responsible challenge type video. There is consent, information, warnings and an age restriction. Amazingly done and very interesting.
James is absolutely fantastic in his stoicism, especially compared to the rest of the family. He's hilarious!
And in one shot there was a blood pressure machine… you could tell they were probably checking to make sure it was safe for him to continue…and that he was ok.

Amazed at your son James, he can really handle spicy hot foods. Lol at Dave saying I feel like I want a new job🤣🤣🤣🤣
James outs spicy hot sauces on his dinner all the time - so it definitely works. He also has a very high pain threshold, if he says something is hurting I know it is really bad.
I mean, it's cool that you got People with different Spice tolerance in this, most People can find one to relate to. I'm probably like James, with dave-like comments but I mean nice work, thank you for the educational video and now I'm off To shopping some spicy chocolate 😋

@@HowToCookThat I've got a high pain threshold, too. Last time I hurt enough to go to the ER because I could barely function... I had a chest infection that had collapsed my lung. I didn't even flinch when they put a chest tube in. With spice, the signals just hit a limit and stop over about 1M scoville for me.
Dave has eaten some truly nasty concoctions without much complaint so you know that chocolate must be bringing the pain to make him reconsider his job.
I relate to James so much. Whenever my family has curry or anything spicy, they look like the rest of your family, while I'm sitting there like "This is nice"
Ann with her bucket and rapidly trying all the drinks, and Matt with his milk jug always make me laugh. 😄
It's refreshing to see someone handling potentially dangerous food responsibly instead of just being as extreme as possible for the views. Good on her for setting healthy boundaries with her kids' participation and making it clear that tapping out was absolutely an option. We love you Dave! You risk life and limb every time Ann comes up with these ideas! Thank you for your sacrifice.
What a precious family you have. Thank you for sharing them with us xx
As a chilli consumer for most of my life, the best way to get rid of the heat in your mouth, and to stop your stomach from burning, is to drool it out. Literally, just stand over the sink and let your saliva and mucus do the work
Trueeeee... i do this when it becomes unbearable
Yup! That's exactly what I do I love spice but sometimes it's too much 😅
wow, thanks for the tip!
Exactly... Sometimes you just gotta drool like a dog haha
And if you’re preparing to eat a spicy meal my advice is to get a big hit of a lot of spice about 15 minutes before the meal. For example, just take a bite out of a Thai chili. You’ll go through the pain and your body will react to it, and then by the time you’re eating the spicy meal you’re ready to actually enjoy the chilies in your food rather than suffer from them. It’s like a runners high but for chilis.
We stan a queen who makes sure everyone is consenting and ok with what they're doing beforehand, I'll add this video to my list of reasons why you're one of the best youtubers out there

The first one is familiar to me. I like it. Never tried the others.
I know the first one. I absolutely hated it every time I tried it. I can't handle bitterness or spicyness, so chilli chocolate is a nightmare for me.
I love how Ann didn’t tell anyone that swishing the milk would help them.
That could count as likely inducing a placebo.
If they know there's a way to make it work, then they'd _know_ it does work, and yet, that very thing could make them think it works better than it actually does.

Ann: Eats the hottest chocolate and starts to get tortured so badly
Her son: You can actually taste the papers in it, not like the spiciness only
that dude is literally not... like i swear he cant taste the spice
This is me with my husband. He put about two spoonfuls of a special hot sauce on a burrito and was happily eating it. I had a stuffy nose and was desperate for relief so I very lightly dipped a cracker into the hot sauce- maybe half a teaspoon or so- and took a bite. Worst mistake.
I chugged a whole glass of milk, then put ice cube after ice cube on my tongue. After half an hour I put Orajel on it to numb the pain so I could sleep. My nose was still stuffed up and my husband finished his burrito.
@@renaaltman3974 I can't imagine you jumping around and he's eating his burrito happily, if you made that burrito then it must be a very nice one that he can't even do anything to help your pain.
"Before I get into this sweet little nightmare..." lol well said Dave. That's the perfect way to describe these chocolates.
you guys are AWESOME!!!
